Mohican Group Camp Introduce
Are you a local resident planning a group camping trip and searching for the perfect "camping near me" location? Look no further than Mohican Group Camp, situated at 3054 Co Hwy 939 in Perrysville, OH 44864. Located within the renowned Mohican State Park, this campground is specifically designed to accommodate larger groups looking for a tent camping experience. With multiple spacious sites, essential amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere, Mohican Group Camp is a highly recommended option for local gatherings seeking an outdoor adventure.
When searching for "camping near me" for a group, space and shared facilities are often key considerations. Mohican Group Camp excels in providing ample space for group tent camping, as noted by multiple reviewers who highlight the "plenty of mostly flat space to set up tents" at each of the four sites. This makes it an ideal location for larger gatherings of friends, families, or organizations looking to camp together in the beautiful setting of Mohican State Park. The positive feedback regarding the suitability for group tent camping underscores its primary purpose and appeal.
The environment of Mohican Group Camp is inherently tied to the natural beauty of Mohican State Park. Located in a region known for its rolling hills, dense forests, and the scenic Clear Fork of the Mohican River, campers at Mohican Group Camp can expect to be surrounded by a picturesque woodland setting. While the individual campsites offer varying degrees of shade and tree cover, the overall environment is one of natural beauty and opportunities for exploring the wider park, including hiking trails and access to Pleasant Hill Lake (though specific proximity from the group camp is not detailed in the reviews).
Mohican Group Camp offers a range of shared services and features designed to support group camping. These include:
- Three shared portable toilets (poterpotties) for the convenience of all four campsites.
- A central water spigot providing potable water, which one reviewer noted tasted great and is assumed to be local city water.
- Two dumpsters for waste disposal, helping groups maintain a clean campsite.
- A central communal large fire pit, potentially intended for use when all four group sites are reserved together.
- Individual fire rings at each of the four campsites, allowing each group to have their own designated campfire area (subject to park regulations).
- Picnic tables at all campsites, providing a convenient space for meals and gatherings.
- A dog-friendly policy, allowing campers to bring their canine companions to enjoy the outdoor experience (though specific rules or restrictions are not mentioned).
It's important to note that while the campground provides these essential shared amenities, individual campsites do not have dedicated water or electrical hookups, aligning with a more traditional tent camping experience.
The reviews also provide valuable insights into the individual characteristics of the four campsites within Mohican Group Camp:
- Site 1: Located on the southeast corner of the circle, it is described as likely the smallest of the sites with only about four trees. It is also adjacent (directly south) to the shared portable toilets.
- Site 2: Situated in the northeast corner, this site is noted as being completely treeless in the camping area, making it unsuitable for hammocks but ideal for lawn games. Reviewers recommend bringing an awning for shade. The water spigot and dumpsters are located between Site 2 and Site 3.
- Site 3: Found in the northwest corner, this site is approximately two-thirds wooded with a nice open flat area for tents, offering a mix of shade and sun. It is located along the road (as is Site 4), which might result in some headlight or car noise.
- Site 4: Located on the southwest corner, this site is almost fully wooded, providing ample shade. While along the road like Site 3, it is also next to the entrance of the group area, which could be a factor with frequent arrivals and departures.
These descriptions allow local users to consider the specific needs of their group when booking, such as the need for shade, open space for activities, or proximity to facilities.
One practical piece of information from the reviews is that the "2 car limit" mentioned in the reservation information is reportedly inaccurate, with each site averaging 6-8 cars or more. This is important for groups coordinating transportation. Additionally, the frequent presence of park rangers is noted, contributing to a safe and well-monitored environment with "little to no problems." The reviewers also did not encounter raccoons, possibly due to campers being diligent about cleaning up food.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews for Mohican Group Camp. As part of the Ohio State Parks system, fees and reservation policies are typically standardized. Local users interested in booking a group campsite should visit the official Ohio State Parks website (likely through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources) to check availability, make reservations, and understand the current fee structure for group camping at Mohican State Park. It is strongly advised to book early, as one reviewer noted that the group camp "fills up fast," indicating its popularity.
For local users considering Mohican Group Camp for their next "camping near me" experience, here are some key takeaways and recommendations:

Mohican Group Camp Reviews
Great place for some group tent camping!Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place if you're able to book it early enough. It fills up fast. All sites have picnic tables and are dog friendly. The "2 car limit" on the reservation info is super not accurate. each site probably averaged like 6-8 cars or more. The rangers drive through frequently, and there were little to no problems. We didn't see any Raccoons, but we are pretty careful about cleaning up well. Plenty of mostly flat space to set up tents. We had site 2 reserved, but this review will be about all of them. The sites don't have clear separations of where each of them ends, but usually camping is pretty chill, however this could cause issues. The sites all share 3 poterpotties, a water spigot, 2 dumpsters, and a central communal large firepit. I think the firepit in the middle is for if you reserve all 4 group sites, but each site has individual fire rings on them as well. All four sites are located around the circle of the group site that has the large firepit in the middle. Site 1 is on the southeast corner of the circle. It is probably the smallest of the sites and only has about 4 trees on the site. This site is also adjacent to the 3 poterpotties (directly south) shared by the group camp. Next, site 2, is in the northeast corner of the site. This site is completely treeless in the camping area, so don't plan to hammock here. It was great for cornhole, KanJam, and bocce, but plan ahead. I would definitely recommend an awning for this site. Between site 2 and 3 is where the water and dumpsters are located. The water was potable and taste great. I would assume it is local city water. Site 3 in the northwest corner is about 2/3 wooded with a nice open flat area to set up tents in. If I were going again I would try and book this one. Plenty of shade and sun. The only downside is that this site, and site 4 are along the road. The road is not busy at all, but some headlights or car noise could disturb a peaceful night's sleep. Over at site 4 on the Southwest corner, the site is almost fully wooded. The trees are far enough apart that there is still plenty of room to set up tents though. As stated before it is along the road, but it is also next to the entrance to the group area. So if there are lots of people coming and going this could be an issue. There was a group already here so my photo's of this site are not super close up to respect their privacy.
Jul 19, 2021 · LeviLots of space, potable water and portable toilets. There was also a trash receptacle near by. I definitely enjoyed my weekend hanging out here with a group of friends.
Sep 03, 2023 · Alex WagnerWent here with a large group of about 50 people for a church camping trip and it was awesome. Lots of great hikes close by and a huge fire pit in the center to have big group fires by.
Oct 11, 2018 · Thomas KnapkeGreat area for a group camp. And if you like hinting, there is a public hunting area nearby. And a covered bridge. A very cool place
Sep 27, 2018 · jason dommerNice place to spend a weekendBeautiful nature, easy and moderate trailsI would go again
