Mokins Bay Campground Introduce
For local users seeking an authentic and somewhat remote "camping near me" experience in the Hayden, Idaho area, Mokins Bay Campground, located at 12355 E Mokins Bay Rd, Hayden, ID 83835, offers a promising retreat. Situated near the lake, likely Lake Coeur d'Alene given the region, this campground appears to provide a traditional camping atmosphere that emphasizes nature and tranquility, as highlighted by recent visitor feedback.
The environment of Mokins Bay Campground is described by reviewers as both "a great real life camping experience" and a place that "feels very remote." This suggests a setting where campers can truly immerse themselves in nature, potentially away from the more developed and crowded campgrounds. The mention of feeling "at home with nature" implies a natural and possibly rustic environment, with opportunities to connect with the outdoors. The quiet atmosphere, noted by a three-day visitor who experienced an "entire stay was very quiet," further underscores the peaceful and secluded nature of the campground, making it an appealing option for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
In terms of services and features, the reviews offer some valuable insights. One reviewer appreciated the presence of a toilet, indicating that while the camping experience is "old fashioned," basic amenities for comfort are provided. This suggests that Mokins Bay Campground might offer a balance between a rustic feel and essential conveniences. The caretaker is described as "full of information and no knowhow," which likely means they are knowledgeable and helpful, enhancing the overall camping experience by providing guidance and assistance to visitors.
The cleanliness of the facilities is also mentioned positively, with one reviewer stating, "The facilities were clean." This is an important aspect for any campground, ensuring a comfortable and hygienic stay for campers. The friendly demeanor of the "camp host" is another significant positive, contributing to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere within the campground community.
A notable point of caution raised by a reviewer is the presence of bees. They mentioned that bees "were everywhere in the campsite" and advised those with bee allergies to "keep an EpiPen on hand." While no one reported getting stung during their visit, this is an important consideration for individuals with allergies and suggests that the natural environment of the campground might attract bees, particularly during certain times of the year. Campers should be prepared for this possibility and take necessary precautions.

Mokins Bay Campground Reviews
I love it it's a great real life camping experience and overall awesome place to be. Coming from the Marine Corps I felt at home with nature and felt spoiled by having a toilet. The care taker is full of i formation and no knowhow. If you're looking for an old fashioned campsite this is it.
May 06, 2025 · Skid X LLCGreat campground that feels very remote. We stayed for three days and our entire stay was very quiet. The facilities were clean and the camp host was friendly. Beware if you have a bee allergy, and keep an EpiPen on hand. They were everywhere in the campsite, but nobody got stung.
Aug 16, 2020 · Robbie HarrisStayed here with some friends in June of 2023. We had no problems with bugs or a lack of cleanliness, as others had mentioned. Being quite far from any major road, and certainly off the beaten path, the sites were very quiet, and basic amenities like restrooms and clean water were provided. RV spots were available as well, but appeared to be rather small.Beach access is nonexistent, however. The water around the campground is marshy, and I can imagine it being a haven for mosquitoes in the right season. And the nearest store and good public lake access is probably a 20-ish minute drive, so make sure to come prepared!Overall, I'd give it a solid 7/10. It's a nice spot for a quiet night of camping, but not a whole lot else.
Apr 19, 2024 · Sean KegleyI travel the US going from one campground to another for two weeks each. This is the best campground I have been in the last five years. Everything was perfect. Campground was clean and pit toilets were spotless and cleaned regularly. If I am ever within 500 miles of this campground again, I will stop by.The camp host is the best I have ever seen. please tell Bill the host, I said hello
Aug 30, 2023 · David CastoTHE GOOD: Few sites, and away from any traffic, so very quiet at night. Camp host was friendly.THE BAD: Few flat spots for tents. Foliage not trimmed back in any area, incl. site driveways. Access to Hayden Lake is pretty sketch unless you drive 30 minutes. Switchbacks to the campground are a challenge, but just go slow: I made it in a RAM 1500 Crew Cab with a 24' RV trailer. Privacy between sites was so-so. Overall very unkempt, and run-down facilities and amenities. Unrepaired wind damage to sites, fallen trees, etc.THE UGLY: Pit toilets unlit, gross, and not cleaned for at least 6 days according to list inside door. Most trash-laden campsite I have ever seen in my 40 years of camping; food, glass, paper waste. RV flat parking site was a challenge to get into. Another camper took 90 minutes to get into his with a 30' trailer.FINAL: We will not return to this site. Just too poorly maintained and not worth the drive.
