Buttonhook Group Campground Introduce
Are you a local resident in the Athol, Idaho area seeking a group camping experience within the "camping near me" category, particularly one that offers lake access and recreational opportunities? Buttonhook Group Campground, located on ID-54 in Athol, ID 83801, USA, presents an attractive option, especially for those traveling with larger groups who appreciate boating, hiking, and a scenic lakeside environment. The available reviews highlight its excellent boating facilities, beautiful setting, and cooler temperatures compared to other areas in the park, making it a potentially ideal destination for a memorable group camping adventure. However, one review also points out a potential inconsistency in restroom cleaning frequency, which is a factor to consider.
The environment surrounding Buttonhook Group Campground is consistently praised for its beauty. One reviewer describes it as a "beautiful setting" and even suggests it might be "the best camping area in the park." This implies a location with significant natural appeal, likely featuring picturesque views and a tranquil atmosphere. The mention of "great boating docks" strongly indicates that the campground is situated on or very near a lake, offering direct access to the water. This lakeside environment would provide opportunities for various water-based activities such as boating, swimming, and potentially fishing. The cooler temperatures noted in one review suggest that the campground might be located in a shaded area or at a higher elevation compared to other camping spots in the vicinity, which could be particularly appealing during the warmer months. Additionally, the presence of a "small little walk from the docks" leading to a restroom suggests that there are trails or pathways within the campground area, hinting at possibilities for short hikes and exploring the natural surroundings. The overall environment seems geared towards outdoor enjoyment and appreciation of the natural beauty of northern Idaho.
As Buttonhook is identified as a "Group Campground," its services and features are likely tailored to accommodate larger parties traveling together. While specific details about the number of campsites, capacity, or amenities at each site are not provided in the reviews, group campgrounds typically offer larger designated areas that can accommodate multiple tents or RVs. These sites often include communal facilities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and potentially larger cooking areas suitable for group meals. The mention of "great boating docks" is a significant service and feature, indicating well-maintained access points for boats, allowing campers to easily tie up, launch, and retrieve their watercraft. The availability of a restroom near the docks is another essential service, particularly convenient for those spending time on the lake. One reviewer noted that the restroom was "clean and nice," which is a positive aspect. However, the second review mentions that the "bathrooms didn't get cleaned every day during our week long stay," indicating a potential inconsistency in the maintenance schedule. This is an important point for prospective campers to be aware of, especially for longer stays. While the cleanliness upon arrival seems to be satisfactory, the frequency of cleaning might vary. Contacting the campground directly using the provided phone numbers, (208) 683-2425 or +1 208-683-2425, would be advisable to inquire about the specific amenities available for group camping, including campsite details, restroom facilities, water access, and any other services offered.
The key features of Buttonhook Group Campground revolve around its lakeside location and suitability for group outings. The excellent boating docks are a major draw for those who enjoy spending time on the water. The beautiful setting enhances the overall camping experience, providing a scenic backdrop for various activities. The cooler temperatures can be a significant advantage, especially during hot summer days, offering a more comfortable camping environment. The presence of a restroom within easy walking distance from the docks adds to the convenience for lake users. The implication of hiking trails near the docks suggests opportunities for land-based exploration as well. Being a "Group Campground" itself is a key feature, indicating that the layout and potentially the amenities are designed to accommodate larger parties, making it ideal for family reunions, gatherings of friends, or organized group camping trips. The private nature of group campgrounds often fosters a more communal and interactive camping experience among the members of the group.
The customer reviews provide valuable, albeit limited, perspectives on Buttonhook Group Campground. The positive feedback regarding the boating docks and the beautiful setting underscores the natural appeal and recreational opportunities available. The mention of cooler temperatures adds another positive aspect for comfort during warmer weather. However, the concern raised about the frequency of restroom cleaning is an important point to consider. While the restrooms were noted as "clean and nice" at some point, the lack of daily cleaning during a week-long stay could be a drawback for some campers, especially larger groups relying on these facilities. The fact that the restrooms were cleaned "before the last roll of toilette paper was gone" suggests that while cleaning might not have been daily, it did occur when necessary supplies were running low. This highlights the importance of being prepared and potentially bringing extra supplies, especially for longer group stays.

The cooler temperatures and potential for hiking add to its appeal as a scenic and recreational getaway within the "camping near me" category. Buttonhook Group Campground Reviews
Buttonhook has great boating docks. Nice to tie up to and have lunch go swimming, hike or just relax. Small little walk from the docks there is a restroom that is clean and nice. If you are out on the water nice place to visit.
Aug 24, 2019 · Edacus MBeautiful setting. Maybe the best camping area in the park. Cooler than all the others, I think. Bathrooms didn't get cleaned every day during our week long stay. Thankfully they were cleaned before the last roll of toilette paper was gone.
