Moose Lake State Park Campground Introduce
For local users seeking diverse "camping near me" experiences, Moose Lake State Park Campground, situated in Moose Lake, Minnesota, presents a compelling option. Located within Moose Lake State Park, this campground offers a variety of campsites catering to both tent and RV campers, along with access to the scenic Moose Lake and various park amenities. Reviews from visitors provide valuable insights into the campground's environment, services, and features, allowing potential guests to make informed decisions about their next outdoor adventure.
The environment of Moose Lake State Park Campground appears to be characterized by its proximity to Moose Lake and a mix of open and wooded areas. One reviewer noted that the lakeside tent sites, despite their location, were surprisingly not soggy, suggesting good drainage even near the water. However, it's important to note that the level of shade and privacy varies significantly between campsites. Some sites, like T08, reportedly have no shade, while others, such as T06, are "tucked away in the woods." This variation allows campers to choose a site that best suits their preferences, whether they prefer sunny open areas or more secluded, shaded spots.
A key observation from multiple reviews is the proximity of the campsites to one another. The lack of a significant tree line or vegetation between sites means that privacy can be limited, and noise may travel easily between camping groups, including those in nearby RV sites. While this close proximity can be advantageous for large groups wishing to camp together and essentially merge sites, it's a crucial consideration for light sleepers or those seeking a more secluded and quiet camping experience. Campers should be prepared for a potentially social atmosphere, especially during peak season.
The impact of the lake environment on the campsites is also noteworthy. One reviewer mentioned that wind gusts coming off the lake caused multiple tents to collapse and equipment to be blown away due to the lack of trees or vegetation acting as windbreaks. This suggests that campers, particularly those in tents, should be prepared for potentially windy conditions, especially those closer to the lake, and ensure their gear is well-secured.
In terms of services and amenities, Moose Lake State Park Campground offers essential facilities for a comfortable camping experience. The bathrooms, including two stalls and two shower stalls in the women's section (presumably a similar setup exists for men), were reported to be cleaned daily and considered "pretty decent" for campground facilities. This regular maintenance is a significant positive aspect for campers who value cleanliness.
Fire pits at each site consist of rings only, without grates for cooking. This is an important piece of information for those planning to cook over an open fire, as they will need to bring their own grate or alternative cooking equipment. Each campsite is also equipped with a standard painted wood picnic table, providing a convenient space for meals and other activities.
Beyond the individual campsites, Moose Lake State Park Campground offers additional amenities within the park. There is a second bathroom facility located near Echo Beach and a picnic area, providing more options for campers. Families with children will appreciate the presence of two playgrounds: a plastic one near the main campground area (as indicated on the map) and a wooden one by the beach. Both playgrounds are described as having "a lot to do," suggesting they are well-equipped and engaging for children of various ages. The presence of a band shell by the beach hints at potential events or performances that could enhance the overall park experience.
The location of Moose Lake State Park Campground offers convenient access to the nearby town of Moose Lake, which is just a short drive away (within a couple of minutes). The town reportedly has small shops and liquor stores where campers can find most of their essential needs, adding a layer of convenience for supplies or last-minute items.
Another reviewer offered a slightly different perspective on the campground layout, noting that "Most of the sites are very spread out especially the outer site of the loops" and that "All the site are shaded with some of them be covered by tall pines." This suggests that while some areas may have closer sites with less privacy, other sections of the campground, particularly the outer loops, might offer more spacious and shaded options. Potential campers may want to inquire about the availability of these more spread-out sites when making reservations.
The same reviewer also mentioned the nearby boat launch and day-use area, highlighting the accessibility of Moose Lake for boating and other daytime recreational activities. This further enhances the appeal of the campground for those interested in water-based fun.

Moose Lake State Park Campground Reviews
Great location for camping. Sites were mostly level. Lakeside tent sites weren't soggy somehow. The sites are marked, but not super well. Had to ask someone to move and then the same happened to another group down the way. T06 is tucked away in the woods for example. T08 has no shade. They're all pretty close together with no tree line or anything between them, so not private. Good for groups though. You can set up by a friend and basically merge sites. If you're a light sleeper though, you are going to struggle as you can hear everyone around you--including the RV sites nearby. There's really nothing between sites at all for sound dampening. Worked out fine for us, but a warning to others. Also due to the lack of trees or vegetation between sites, when there were wind gusts off the lake, multiple tents collapsed and people's rain flys and equipment went sailing. Bathrooms were cleaned daily. For camping bathrooms/showers, they were pretty decent. 2 bathroom stalls and 2 shower stalls in the women's. No grates for the fire pits, just rings, so bring something of your own if you're planning on cooking over the fire. Picnic tables were standard painted wood ones. One at each site. There was a second bathroom by Echo Beach/picnic area and a second playground up there too. The playground on the campground map is a plastic one while the one by the beach is wooden. Both had a lot to do. There's a band shell by the beach too. Moose Lake has some small shops and liquor stores. You can find most of what you need within a couple mins drive from the campground. Worth checking out.
Sep 03, 2024 · Chelsea KThis looked to be a very nice campground for a smaller park. Most of the sites are very spread out especially the outer site of the loops. All the site are shaded with some of them be covered by tall pines. The boat launch is nearby and the day use area.
Jan 28, 2024 · Wyatt W. PenkeVery pretty state park! Not very big but tons of room between sites. Very private and wooded. One shower bathroom for the whole park but very clean and nice. Great walking trails that go by the lake and into the woods. Very pretty scenery. There is no dump station on site so you have to go into town or find another place to dump. Good place to explore!
Oct 16, 2021 · Ann CA nice, well maintained campground in a park not far from home. The campground's host, Joy, is a delighted lady to chat with. The staff Aden (sp?) and Megan were just as friendly. The shower and restroom are clean. You can tent, RV camping here. Great place for a family with children as you can take them fishing, swimming, and walking/hiking.
Aug 04, 2020 · SL KNOTICE: There is NO DUMP STATION at this park, nor anywhere nearby!! NONE! You can drive 16 miles north on I-35 or 10+ miles south on I-35. This is NUTS!There is also no water at the parking sites. You can fill at the office building when you enter, or at one of several spigots scattered in the park.BTW-The fill hose at the office has multiple water stopping kinks and leaks spraying water all over. You are given pliers at the front desk to turn the faucet on/off because the faucet handle is missing. The sites are crushed rock, fairly level and tucked into very rustic little spots. Very private in the thick surrounding forest. There are several vault toilets scattered in the park and ONE shower house that is surprisingly nice, given the rest of the park. For a state park, this is a sad case. We will not return. NOT recommended.
