Lake Ladonna Family Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Oregon, Illinois area? Lake Ladonna Family Campground, located at 1302 S Harmony Rd, Oregon, IL 61061, USA, presents itself as a potentially appealing option for local campers. This campground has garnered attention, with one reviewer describing it as "one of the most beautiful campgrounds I have ever seen," emphasizing the evident care and pride taken in maintaining the grounds' appearance. The reviewer also noted the friendliness of the staff and the seemingly happy atmosphere among the campers, suggesting a welcoming community environment. The mention of a potential affinity for retired military personnel or former Boy Scouts hints at a possibly structured or community-oriented atmosphere, though further information is needed to substantiate this.
The environment of Lake Ladonna Family Campground is clearly a point of pride for its management, with significant emphasis placed on the visual appeal and upkeep of the grounds. While specific details about the natural landscape, such as the presence of wooded areas, lake access (beyond the campground's name), or other natural features, are not detailed in the provided information, the strong positive feedback regarding the aesthetic quality suggests a pleasant and well-tended outdoor setting. This could translate to well-manicured lawns, organized campsites, and an overall visually appealing environment for campers to enjoy.
However, a crucial aspect to consider, and one that potential campers must be aware of, is highlighted in a contrasting review. This review strongly cautions against camping at Lake Ladonna Family Campground, particularly for those in tents, due to the close proximity of freight train tracks. The reviewer reports that freight trains pass by frequently, potentially every 2 to 3 hours, causing significant shaking of tents and loud air horn noises. This proximity is stated to be less than 50 feet from all tent camping sites. The reviewer expresses disappointment that this information was not prominently disclosed on the campground's website, emphasizing the potential disturbance to campers seeking a peaceful outdoor experience. While the campground reportedly states it is not responsible for the train noise, the reviewer argues for transparency regarding such significant environmental factors.
Regarding services and features, one positive review mentions friendly staff, implying a degree of customer service orientation. The negative review, however, raises a point about water usage and shower fees, stating that while water is available at every campsite, there is an additional charge for showers. This is a detail that prospective campers might want to clarify, as it could influence their expectations regarding included amenities versus additional costs. The absence of information regarding other typical campground amenities, such as restrooms (beyond showers), laundry facilities, recreational areas, or specific types of hookups for RVs (if applicable), makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive overview of the services offered.
The positive review, mentioning the beautiful grounds and friendly staff, suggests that Lake Ladonna Family Campground may excel in terms of visual appeal and customer interaction. However, the significant concern raised about the pervasive train noise is a factor that cannot be overlooked, especially for those prioritizing a quiet and undisturbed camping experience. The discrepancy in these two reviews highlights the importance of considering all available feedback and potentially seeking further clarification from the campground directly regarding the train situation and the availability and cost of amenities.
Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. Campgrounds sometimes offer discounts for extended stays, seasonal rates, or other special offers. To inquire about any potential promotions at Lake Ladonna Family Campground, it is recommended to contact them directly via phone at (815) 732-6804 or their mobile number +1 815-732-6804. Speaking with the campground management will allow you to ask about any ongoing deals, as well as to seek clarification on the train noise issue and the specifics of their amenities and pricing.
In conclusion, Lake Ladonna Family Campground in Oregon, IL, appears to be a campground that takes pride in the beauty and maintenance of its grounds and may offer a friendly atmosphere. However, a significant drawback for potential campers, particularly those in tents, seems to be the close proximity to active freight train tracks, resulting in frequent noise and vibrations. This is a critical factor that local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider. Additionally, the information regarding amenities, such as the cost of showers despite water availability at campsites, is important for budgeting and planning. To make an informed decision, it is strongly recommended that prospective campers contact Lake Ladonna Family Campground directly to inquire about the train noise mitigation (if any), the full list of available amenities and their costs, and any current promotional offers. While the visually appealing environment is a definite plus, the potential for significant noise disturbance is a factor that needs thorough consideration.

Lake Ladonna Family Campground Reviews
This place is one of the most beautiful campgrounds I have ever seen. It is VERY apparent that they take excellent care of the grounds and show an abundance of pride in the appearance if their park. The staff was very friendly and the campers all seemed to be happy. If you are retired military or even an ex boy-scout you will absolutely love it. Tell Virgil I said "Hi"!
Aug 24, 2022 · Bigdaddy3kI will never go back! The information on website does not warn you but there is a freight train that rolls through if not one but two freight trains at roll through every 2 to 3 hours shakes your tent you're being to the core. Not to mention the loud air horns that blaze through. The train tracks are less than 50 ft away from all tent camping sites. The Resort stated that they are not responsible for the freight trains and noise! But by LAW they are responsible for being transparent on the details on their website. So I'm forewarning everyone if you don't want to hear rumbling freight trains or air horns every 2 to 3 hours do not go to this resort! When water is at endless use at every campsite you will be paying for a shower!
Jul 04, 2024 · Angela Bonavia (United Beauty 22)Nice campground with fun sandy beach with swing, slide, and trampoline. Good sized sites. The main comaint is the freight train 20-50 yards away that blows its horn for the nearby intersection about 6-9 times per day (including overnight) based on our recent weekend there.
Sep 08, 2021 · Dave StodolaMy Husband and I drove from Kansas City to this location for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Camp ground kept up and the facilities are very clean. Although, the Freight trains that blows their horns every 2-3 hours and the rubbling of trains with all Tent campsites less then 50 feet away from Very Busy train tracks! It loud and shakes your belongings including yourself. I bought a two night stay. We left the next morning! I was told they don't refund although, I could get a free night! I will never come back to this Resort! If it was stated on their information website that there was a freight train that goes through every 2 to 3 hours my husband and I would not have wasted the miles gas nor the trip to come up to that resort. I'm still asking for a one night refund although, it is very unsuccessful due to them wanting to take the money it has been very unsuccessful. A lot of excuses made! Now you receive electricity in endless use of water at every site although, if you shower you will pay ! This place is unsafe for families due to the trains that come through. We had a horrible time and will never go back! They got one star because I couldn't give them a less. One star is not worth this Resort! Stay away if you want R&R you won't get it here! They nickel and dime everything and tent camping is $65.00 a night minimum. No fire pits offered. You can't cook with a camping cook stove . Although, a Cafe is on site with a general store.
Jul 04, 2024 · Angela BonaviaThe camp sites are TINY! 🤏 There was no access to our "campsite". The "road" on the map was just grass. We had to awkwardly walkthrough other people's sites to get to the bathrooms, and other people had to walk through ours as well. "Please excuse us as we walk right past your circle of chairs around your campfire." Absolutely zippy-ZERo privacy. My camper was 5 feet from 3 other campers. When we got ready to leave, we had to ask other people to move their trucks, lawn games, and chairs just to clear a path for us to be able to exit our "site"! Ridiculous who designs camp sites with campersites stacked 2 deep? It felt like how the cars are double and triple parked for a Cubs game down by Wrigley!!! Also, from a safety standpoint - If one of our children had gotten burned or hurt somehow, I literally have no idea how we would have even gotten out of the place in an emergency. 🚑. They must make tons of money by packing everyone in on top of each other like this. I will never go here again. And I didn't even mention the trains! The trains were less than 300 feet from the sites and were so loud throughout the night. They flew by at high speeds and blasted their air horn as they approached. The trains would go by about every 45 minutes - all through the day and night! 😭 Restrooms were very clean, although one flooded while we were there. The kids loved the playground and played on it nearly constantly.
