Putnam County, FL 32177, USA

5.0
What a great place. Easy trail. Not much shade. It was hot. The trail is an access road as well that you can go to a shelter. The shelter has screens with a few pots and pans. People seem to be super nice when they come here. Well cared for the area. I left baby wipes for the next hiker inside the shelter. Visitors are leaving handy items behind to share. Since I live close by, this fall I'm planning on dropping off supplies there for long distance hikers. Oh I almost forgot, there's a hand pump well ❤️‍🩹. A major plus!!! - Happy Me

Services and Amenities:

The services and amenities at Oak Hammock Camp/Rice Creek Hilton seem to be quite basic, aligning with a more primitive camping experience. The most notable amenity mentioned is a "shelter" located along the trail. This shelter is described as having "screens" and containing "a few pots and pans," suggesting it offers a basic covered structure for overnight stays or resting during a hike, and potentially some minimal cooking equipment left by previous visitors. A significant feature highlighted in both reviews is a "hand pump well ❤️‍🩹," providing a source of water for hikers and campers. The second review also mentions "Tables" and a "Fire pit," indicating designated areas for eating and campfires. It's important to note that there is no mention of modern amenities like restrooms, showers, or electricity. The hand pump well is a particularly noteworthy feature for a primitive site, providing a valuable resource for drinking water (though purification is always recommended). The reviews also highlight a sense of community among visitors, with mentions of people being "super nice" and leaving behind "handy items" for others in the shelter, such as baby wipes. This suggests a welcoming and sharing atmosphere among those who use the trail and camp. The second review emphasizes its proximity for "pedal/bipedal" access while being sufficiently removed from "petroleum perusal" (likely referring to roads and vehicles) to maximize enjoyment of nature. This highlights its appeal for those seeking a peaceful and relatively secluded natural experience within a short distance. For local users looking for "camping near me" that combines hiking with a basic but community-oriented camping setup, Oak Hammock Camp/Rice Creek Hilton offers a unique opportunity.
