Oak Ridge Campground Introduce
For those in the New London, Minnesota area searching for "camping near me" that offers a more tranquil and secluded experience compared to busier campgrounds, Oak Ridge Campground presents an appealing option. Located in New London, MN 56273, USA, this campground is described by visitors as a "very nice campground" that exudes a laid-back and quiet atmosphere, particularly when contrasted with the nearby Lakeview campground. If you value privacy, shade, and a serene natural setting for your camping adventure, Oak Ridge Campground is worth exploring.
One of the key environmental features highlighted by reviewers is the sense of privacy offered at most of the campsites. Unlike more open or densely packed campgrounds, Oak Ridge is characterized by sites that are "mostly private," allowing campers to feel more immersed in nature and enjoy a greater sense of seclusion. This is particularly attractive for those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Complementing the privacy is the abundance of shade, with sites being described as "shaded." This is a significant advantage, especially during the warmer months, providing a cooler and more comfortable camping experience by shielding campers from direct sunlight.
The layout of Oak Ridge Campground includes an upper and a lower loop, each with its own characteristics. According to a visitor, the "upper loop is closer to the bathrooms and more spread out." This suggests that campers in the upper loop benefit from convenient access to the restroom facilities while also enjoying more space between campsites. This layout might be particularly appealing to those who prioritize accessibility to amenities and a less crowded camping environment.
In contrast, the lower loop offers electric sites, which are essential for RVers and those who rely on electricity for their camping setup. However, it's noted that some of these lower loop electric sites "look to be close to the road and part sun." This is an important consideration for potential campers. Being closer to the road might mean slightly more traffic noise, and partial sun could impact shade and temperature at those specific sites. It would be advisable to inquire about the specific characteristics of the electric sites in the lower loop when making a reservation to ensure they meet your needs and preferences.
Beyond traditional campsites, Oak Ridge Campground also offers cabin rentals within the state park. One reviewer mentioned staying in a cabin named "LOOM," which can accommodate up to five people. These cabins provide a more sheltered and comfortable lodging option, particularly appealing to those who prefer not to tent camp or who are looking for a more convenient base for exploring the area. The cabins are equipped with electricity and heating, ensuring a comfortable stay even during cooler evenings or less favorable weather conditions. The presence of an outhouse nearby provides basic restroom facilities for cabin occupants.
The cabins are situated in "a fairly quiet part of the park," further emphasizing the overall tranquil atmosphere of Oak Ridge Campground. This secluded location of the cabins allows guests to enjoy peace and quiet while still having access to the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the state park. While one minor issue was noted with a nearby spigot, the reviewer's overall impression of the cabin and its location was positive.
While the provided information does not include specific details about other services or features of Oak Ridge Campground, the reviews offer valuable insights into its environment and the types of accommodations available. The absence of mentions of amenities like showers, laundry facilities, or specific recreational activities within the campground itself might suggest that these are either limited, located elsewhere in the state park, or were not a focus of the reviewers' experiences. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly at (320) 354-2055 or +1 320-354-2055 to inquire about the full range of services and facilities available to campers and cabin renters.
Similarly, no specific promotional information is included in the provided text. To learn about any current specials, discounts for local residents, or seasonal rates, it is recommended to reach out to the campground management directly. They would be the best source of information regarding pricing and any ongoing promotions that might be available.
In conclusion, for local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of New London, MN, Oak Ridge Campground offers a distinct advantage with its emphasis on privacy, shade, and a quieter, more laid-back atmosphere compared to other campgrounds like Lakeview. The availability of both traditional campsites (with electric options in the lower loop) and cabin rentals provides flexibility for different types of campers. The upper loop's proximity to bathrooms and more spread-out sites caters to those prioritizing convenience and space, while the cabins offer a comfortable and secluded alternative. While some considerations like the potential for partial sun and road proximity in some lower loop sites, and the noted train noise in a previous review for a different campground in the region, should be kept in mind, Oak Ridge Campground stands out as a potentially ideal destination for those valuing a peaceful and private camping experience in a natural state park setting. Contacting the campground directly will provide the most comprehensive information for planning your visit.

Very nice campground. Definitely more laid back and quieter and secluded than the Lakeview campground. The sites are mostly private and shaded. The upper loop is closer to the bathrooms and more spread out. Some of the lower loop electric sight look to be close to he road and part sun.
Aug 18, 2023 · Wyatt W. PenkeYou have 4 cabins at the state park. The one we used, named LOOM can sleep 5. There is electricity and heating. The outhouse was right there. There was some issues with the spigot nearby. The cabins are in a fairly quiet part of the park.
Oct 13, 2022 · bamba NdiayeWe had a lovely stay at the Oak Ridge Campground in Sibley State Park this week. Site 83 was incredible- you have about 3x the space of a regular size spot and it’s private and so fun for our kids to explore.I also have to mention the lack of mosquitoes. It was so pleasant to not be totally annoyed by them. (They were present but much better than most places).Overall the park was great for small children. We did a few short easy hikes, played on the tower and enjoyed the beach. We will definitely return and recommend to our friends and family.
