The campground's location near Lake City also means that essential supplies and other conveniences are within a reasonable distance, striking a balance between peaceful nature and accessibility.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, Ocean Pond Campground is often described as a "lovely little gem." One reviewer highlighted the responsiveness of the hosts, Richard and Elizabeth, and their daughter, who were attentive to their needs. This personal touch can significantly enhance the camping experience, making you feel welcomed and cared for during your stay. The availability of hot showers, which one reviewer specifically appreciated after a fix by Richard, adds a touch of comfort often valued by campers. Laundry facilities are also available, making it a convenient option for longer stays.
A significant feature of Ocean Pond Campground is its access to Ocean Pond itself. Campers can enjoy the beach area for relaxation and recreation. For those who love boating, the presence of a boat launch is a major advantage, allowing easy access to the water for fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying a leisurely boat ride. The campground offers a range of camping options to suit different budgets and preferences. For those needing hookups, electric and water sites are available at a rate of $30, or $20 with a National Park Pass. A more budget-friendly option with water only is priced at $20, or $10 with the pass. For campers seeking a more rustic experience, wooded primitive sites are offered at $12, or just $6 with a National Park Pass. This variety ensures that whether you're in an RV, a tent, or prefer a more secluded spot, there's likely an option that fits your needs.
Cleanliness is an important aspect of any campground, and feedback on this at Ocean Pond Campground has been mixed. One reviewer noted that the bathhouses were clean with evidence of fresh paint, which is a positive sign. However, another recent review mentioned a perceived decline in bathroom cleanliness, advising visitors to "keep ya shoes on." While this suggests that standards might fluctuate, it's worth noting that efforts to maintain the facilities have been evident.
The friendly nature of the hosts consistently receives positive remarks. According to one long-time visitor, the hosts have "always been friendly," which contributes significantly to the overall positive atmosphere of the campground. A welcoming host can make a big difference in how enjoyable a camping trip is.
One recent concern raised by a visitor involved a discrepancy between the payment made and a new sign at the campsite regarding the duration of stay. The reviewer paid for three days but a new sign indicated only two, causing some confusion and annoyance. While this seems to be an isolated incident, it highlights the importance of clear communication and ensuring that site markings align with payment confirmations. It's always a good idea to double-check your booking details upon arrival.
Despite some minor points of feedback, Ocean Pond Campground appears to be a well-regarded local camping spot. Its lakeside location, range of amenities including hot showers, laundry, beach access, and a boat launch, coupled with generally friendly hosts, make it a compelling option for those looking for "camping near me" in the Lake City area. The variety of site options also caters to a broad range of camping styles and budgets.
For local users in the "camping near me" category, Ocean Pond Campground offers a convenient and enjoyable outdoor experience. Ocean Pond Campground Reviews
A lovely little gem on the lake near Lake City where everything needed can be found. The hosts, Richard and Elizabeth and their daughter were extremely responsive to our every need. Hot showers (thanks to Richard who fixed the hot water situation. ) laundry facilities, beach, boat launch,.. choose electric and water for $30 or $20 with National Park Pass . Or $20/ $10 for water only. Or $12/$6 for wooded primitive. And the bath houses were clean with evidence of fresh paint ! Definitely worth a visit!!
Mar 16, 2025 · Margaret BurkeThis is our all time fave campground. It's only an hour from our house but the ultimate get away. I'm a little disappointed that the bathroom cleanliness is going down but keep ya shoes on. Lol The hosts have always been friendly so that's a bonus. 1 other problem I had this visit is we paid for 3 days $90 4/18-4/20 yet the new sign they've started adding to the sites stated 2 days and said we had to be gone by noon but we paid for that 3rd day so...... That's annoying. Anyway see my pics. 😘
Apr 26, 2025 · Debbie Fitzwaterthe camp hosts Elizabeth and Richard here are amazing, very accommodating. the camping sites are very spacious and beautiful. several restrooms through the campground, clean with hot showers. the campground is divided into 3 sections, electric and water, water, and primitive. all sites are paved and level and so is the road until you reach the primitive section, road and sites are not paved. the lake and water front are beautiful old Florida. there are grapefruit and orange trees within the campground. we were just passing through and pulled in for 2 nights. we will definitely be back next year for a longer stay. National forest camping is affordable and always beautiful. The natural beauty is breathtaking here. the sun setting over the lake was just beautiful.
Feb 19, 2025 · Sue BrucknerI love this place! Rangers here go above and beyond to help answer any questions. Ocean pond is beautiful and swimming water is warm and relaxing. We loved our camp and water spigot was convienant. We chose a site with no electric and we did not need electric tent camping. I really appreciate that the park services provide many sites to choose from for tent campers. I can't wait to visit again and truly had one of the best experiences camping here! Osceola has some of the most beautiful pine trees I have ever seen anywhere in the US!! In my heart I am praying for this forest and all of Florida to recover and reopen from recent hurricanes soon. I thank the staff for all there hard work and hope one day I can be a camp host here in this paradise! Thanks!!
