Immerse Yourself in the Beauty of a Lakeside Setting
Olustee, FL. Hog Pen Landing is situated in a beautiful location directly on the lake, offering campers stunning waterfront views and immediate access for fishing. The campsites are thoughtfully spaced out along the lake, providing a sense of privacy and tranquility. The environment is described as very quiet and relaxing, making it a perfect retreat for those looking to escape the noise of more developed campgrounds. Whether you're an avid angler or simply enjoy the peaceful ambiance of a lakeside setting, Hog Pen Landing offers a picturesque backdrop for your camping adventure.
Rustic Amenities for a Back-to-Nature Experience
Hog Pen Landing embraces a more rustic camping style with basic amenities designed to complement the natural surroundings. The campground features 11 unnumbered sites of varying sizes, capable of accommodating everything from tents to larger RVs up to 38 feet (as noted by a guest with a 35-foot fifth wheel). Most campsites are equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, essential for enjoying outdoor meals and campfires, although a couple of sites may not have these features. The restroom facility is a pit toilet, and bear boxes are provided for secure food storage, reflecting the campground's location within a natural forest environment. It's important to note that there are no hookups available at the campsites, emphasizing a more off-grid camping experience. However, a dump station is accessible at the nearby Ocean Pond Campground for a fee of $5.
Affordable Camping in a Natural Environment
One of the appealing aspects of Hog Pen Landing is its affordability. The cost to camp is $10 per night, making it an accessible option for budget-conscious travelers. Furthermore, visitors with a senior pass benefit from a discounted rate of $5 per night. This reasonable pricing, combined with the beautiful natural setting, makes Hog Pen Landing an attractive choice for those seeking an economical camping experience without sacrificing natural beauty and tranquility.
Considerations for Weather and Accessibility
While Hog Pen Landing offers a wonderful natural experience, there are a couple of factors to consider. According to a review, the campsites can become muddy if there is significant rainfall. However, it's noted that the ground does dry out relatively quickly. The road leading to the campground is described as hard-packed but does have some potholes, so visitors should be mindful while driving in the area. Despite these minor considerations, the overall positive feedback suggests that the beauty and peacefulness of the campground outweigh these potential inconveniences for many visitors.
Ideal for Fishing and Wildlife Observation
Hog Pen Landing is particularly well-suited for those interested in fishing, given its direct access to the lake. The quiet environment also lends itself to wildlife observation, although specific wildlife sightings are not detailed in the provided reviews beyond the general natural setting. The lack of extensive amenities and the focus on the natural environment suggest that this campground is ideal for those who enjoy a more self-sufficient camping style and appreciate the opportunities for fishing and immersing themselves in nature.
A Welcoming Host and Sense of Seclusion
A review mentions a friendly and helpful host, which can significantly enhance the camping experience, especially in a more rustic setting. Knowing that there is a supportive presence can provide peace of mind and assistance if needed. The description of the campground as a "great hidden rustic campground" further emphasizes its secluded and tranquil nature, appealing to those seeking an escape from more crowded and developed camping areas. The spacing of the campsites also contributes to this sense of privacy and seclusion.
Sustainable Camping with Solar Power Potential
For those considering longer stays or looking for off-grid camping options, one reviewer shared their experience of staying for 10 days and successfully utilizing solar power for their energy needs. They reported being able to generate sufficient power, only needing to run a generator on three cloudy and rainy days. This suggests that Hog Pen Landing can be a viable option for those equipped with solar power systems who prefer to camp without traditional hookups and enjoy a more sustainable approach to their outdoor adventures.

Olustee, FL. Hog Pen Landing Reviews
Was here for fishing. It is a beautiful place. We didn’t camp. That said the campsites are right on the lake and spaced out nicely. The restroom seems well kept.
Jul 18, 2024 · Marian Haftel SmithGreat hidden rustic campground, very quiet and relaxing. Friendly host who is very helpful. 11 sites (not numbered) ranging in size to accommodate tents to 38’ motorhome. (We have a 35’ 5th wheel) Most sites have a picnic table and fire ring, but a couple do not. Pit toilets, bear boxes and no hookups. Dump station available at nearby Ocean Pond Campground for $5. Cost to camp is $10 per night, unless you have the senior pass, then $5). Only down fall, if it rains a lot, sites can get muddy, but it does dry out quickly. Road is hard packed, but does have some pot holes. We stayed for 10 days and were able to pull enough solar, only had three cloudy, rainy days where we ran the generator.
