Outlet Campground at Priest Lake Introduce
Are you seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience directly on the shores of the stunning Priest Lake in Idaho? Outlet Campground, located at 459 W Lakeshore Rd, Priest River, ID 83856, offers a beautiful lakeside setting that has garnered positive reviews for its cleanliness and scenic location. Situated right on the lake, this campground provides an excellent opportunity for water-based activities and enjoying the natural beauty of the Priest Lake area. However, based on visitor feedback, it's important to be aware of potential seasonal issues with insects and the facilities available.
One of the most significant advantages of Outlet Campground is its prime location "right on the lake!" This lakefront access allows campers to easily enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, and simply relaxing by the water's edge. The beauty of the spot is consistently highlighted, with one reviewer describing it as a "beautiful spot." For those whose ideal "camping near me" involves immediate access to a pristine lake, Outlet Campground appears to be an excellent choice.
The campground is also praised for its upkeep. One visitor noted that it's "very well-kept," suggesting that the management takes pride in maintaining a clean and orderly environment for campers. This attention to cleanliness can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, contributing to a more enjoyable and comfortable stay.
In terms of facilities, Outlet Campground offers the convenience of "flushing toilets and sinks," which are also reported to be "very clean." This is a notable amenity that can make a camping trip more comfortable, especially for those who prefer more sanitary options compared to traditional pit toilets often found in more rustic campgrounds. However, it is crucial to note that, as explicitly mentioned in a review, "there are no showers at this campground." Campers should be prepared for this and plan accordingly for their hygiene needs during their stay.
While the beauty and cleanliness of the campground are strong positives, visitor reviews also point out potential drawbacks related to insects. One reviewer mentioned that "the yellow jackets were terrible" during their visit, making it difficult to "cook meat of any kind without being swarmed." This suggests that during certain times of the year, particularly when food is present, yellow jackets can be a significant nuisance at the campground. The reviewer recommended visiting "early in the season" to potentially avoid this issue. This seasonal aspect is important for prospective campers to consider when planning their trip.
Another insect-related issue highlighted in the reviews is the presence of mosquitoes. One visitor noted that "the mosquitos were also particularly bad this weekend," advising future campers to "be sure to pack your bug spray!" Mosquitoes are a common concern in many outdoor environments, especially near water bodies, and it appears that Outlet Campground is no exception. Bringing effective insect repellent is strongly recommended to ensure a more comfortable stay, particularly during warmer months.
Despite the insect challenges faced during certain times, one reviewer expressed their intention to return, stating, "Will definitely go back, just earlier in the season." This suggests that the overall positive aspects of Outlet Campground, such as its beauty and lakefront location, outweigh the seasonal insect issues for many visitors. The recommendation to visit earlier in the season provides valuable advice for those looking to minimize encounters with yellow jackets.
Furthermore, the campground's location offers the advantage of being near "a lot of near by site seeing spots." This indicates that while enjoying the tranquility of the lakeside campground, visitors also have opportunities to explore the surrounding area and discover local attractions. The specific sightseeing spots are not detailed in the reviews, but the mention suggests that Outlet Campground can serve as a convenient base for exploring the natural and potentially cultural attractions around Priest Lake and Priest River.
In summary, Outlet Campground at Priest Lake offers a beautiful lakefront "camping near me" experience in a well-kept environment with the convenience of clean flushing toilets and sinks. However, potential campers should be aware that showers are not available on-site. Additionally, seasonal issues with yellow jackets, particularly when cooking meat, and potentially significant mosquito activity, especially during warmer periods, have been reported by visitors. Packing effective bug spray is highly recommended, and considering a visit earlier in the camping season might help to avoid the peak of yellow jacket activity. Despite these potential drawbacks, the stunning lakeside location and proximity to sightseeing opportunities make Outlet Campground a desirable destination for those seeking a scenic and enjoyable "camping near me" experience at Priest Lake.
For those planning a trip to Outlet Campground, it would be beneficial to check recent reviews or contact the managing authorities for the Priest Lake area to get the most up-to-date information on current insect conditions and any specific advisories. Being prepared for potential insect issues and the lack of showers will help ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable camping experience at this beautiful lakeside location.

Beautiful spot, should go early in the season. The yellow jackets were terrible while we were there. Couldn't cook meat of any kind without being swarmed. However there are a lot of near by site seeing spots. Will definitely go back, just earlier in the season.

Be advised that there are no showers at this campground, but there are flushing toilets and sinks. The mosquitos were also particularly bad this weekend, so be sure to pack your bug spray!

Aug 21, 2024 · KEITH HIBBSVery beautiful campground heavily wooded. Not all sites have a lake view. This is the only campground in this area of Priest Lake with paved roads. My 5th wheel is 36ft and was extremely hard to maneuver here. Dry camping, closest dump station about 7 miles away. No wifi of course. Only water in spring loaded faucets throughout campground. Close to marina. I would stay again but with smaller rig. Camp host very hands off never even asked who we were.
