Packard Creek Campground

NF-21, Westfir, OR 97492, USA

4.0
Super nice campground! Stayed in campsite 29 and it was pretty big for two tents to be put up and a third could have fit as well. The lake is very nice. It’s not too cold and not too warm so you can actually enjoy swimming in it! The bathrooms where very clean and didn’t smell bad which was also a plus in my books. The only downside for the campsites is there is poison oak everywhere so if you have any little ones don’t let them play in the bushes or plants, if you can, and you’ll be good. The campsite is a little spendy but I would say it’s pretty worth it if you’re staying for a few days. - Kamryn Miller (Kami)

The environment of Packard Creek Campground is a significant draw for visitors. Nestled near a "very nice" lake or reservoir, the campground offers beautiful views and direct access to the water. One reviewer specifically noted that the water temperature is ideal for swimming, being neither too cold nor too warm, allowing for comfortable enjoyment of this natural amenity. The campsites themselves are described as lovely, with at least one site (number 29) being notably spacious, capable of accommodating multiple tents comfortably. This makes it an excellent choice for families or groups camping together. The presence of mature trees and natural surroundings likely contributes to the overall appeal and provides shade and a sense of being immersed in nature. However, potential visitors with young children should be aware of the presence of poison oak in the area, advising caution around bushes and plants within the campsites.

In terms of services and amenities, Packard Creek Campground appears to prioritize cleanliness and comfort. The bathrooms are specifically mentioned as being "very clean" and without unpleasant odors, which is a significant plus for any camping experience. While the reviews do not detail other specific amenities such as water hookups, electricity, or laundry facilities, the positive feedback regarding the restrooms suggests a commitment to maintaining essential facilities to a high standard. The availability of a friendly and informative campground hostess can also be considered a valuable service, as she is reported to make guests feel welcome, providing assistance and creating a positive and home-like atmosphere.

A standout feature of Packard Creek Campground, repeatedly praised in the reviews, is the exceptional hospitality of the campground hostess. Described as "the most amazing and awesome part about the campground," she is lauded for her friendliness, courtesy, helpfulness, happiness, and informative nature. Her dedication to making guests feel welcome and like "part of her big extended family" appears to significantly enhance the overall camping experience. This personal touch and genuine care can often elevate a good campground to an amazing one, fostering a sense of community and making visitors eager to return. The fact that one reviewer explicitly stated they would be returning in a few weeks "mostly because of her" underscores the profound impact of excellent customer service in the camping industry.

The presence of a lake or reservoir as a central feature offers a range of recreational activities. Swimming is explicitly mentioned as enjoyable due to the comfortable water temperature. While not detailed in the provided reviews, it's reasonable to assume that other water-based activities such as fishing, kayaking, or paddleboarding might also be popular, depending on the specific regulations and facilities available at the lake or reservoir. The "so much to do there" comment in one review further suggests a variety of recreational opportunities beyond just swimming, potentially including hiking trails in the surrounding area or other outdoor activities that take advantage of the natural environment.

While one reviewer noted that the campsite is "a little spendy," they also concluded that it is "pretty worth it if you’re staying for a few days." This suggests that while the cost might be slightly higher than some other options, the overall value derived from the clean facilities, beautiful environment, and exceptional service justifies the price, especially for those looking to settle in and enjoy an extended stay. This implies that the pricing might be more reasonable when considering the overall experience and the potential for multiple days of recreation and relaxation.

For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize a welcoming and well-maintained environment with access to a pleasant swimming lake, Packard Creek Campground appears to be an excellent choice. The spacious campsites can accommodate families and groups, while the clean restrooms contribute to a comfortable stay. The potential presence of poison oak warrants caution, especially for those with young children, but careful supervision can mitigate this concern. The overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the campground hostess suggests a level of personal care and hospitality that can significantly enhance the camping experience.

In conclusion, Packard Creek Campground near Westfir, Oregon, offers a compelling combination of natural beauty, clean facilities, and exceptional service. The lovely campsites and beautiful views of the reservoir create a relaxing and enjoyable environment, while the inviting water encourages swimming and other potential water activities.
