Musick Guard Station Introduce
Calling all local adventurers and those seeking a unique "camping near me" experience! Just a short distance from Cottage Grove, Oregon (97424, USA), at 78405 Cedar Park Rd, lies the Musick Guard Station. This isn't your typical campground; it's a historic cabin rental offering a secluded and private retreat into nature. For inquiries and reservations, you can contact them at (541) 767-5000 or +1 541-767-5000.
The environment surrounding Musick Guard Station is described as "relaxing," offering a peaceful escape from the everyday. One of the key features highlighted by visitors is the gated and private nature of the location. This ensures a sense of security and tranquility, as "no random people walked through," allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings without unwanted disturbances. The cabin itself is nestled in an area where outdoor enthusiasts might encounter ATVs and dirt bikes, so some noise from these activities can be expected. However, the overall atmosphere seems to be one of quiet enjoyment of the natural setting.
Musick Guard Station offers a range of services and features centered around a rustic cabin experience. The cabin is a two-story structure with the capacity to sleep up to 10 people, with eight bunk spaces on the second floor and two on the first. It's important to note that the bunks are provided without mattresses, so you will need to bring your own bedding for a comfortable night's sleep. A significant feature of the cabin is the efficient wood stove, which is capable of heating the entire space effectively, making it a cozy option even during cooler times of the year. For cooking, the main living room is equipped with a proper wood-burning cooking stove featuring two burners on top and an oven large enough to bake a couple of pies – perfect for preparing hearty meals during your stay. The kitchen area includes a small food preparation table and ample counter space to comfortably handle meal preparation for a group of 10. While the cabin does not have running water, the sink does drain to the outside, a more convenient setup than some other forest service cabins where sinks drain into buckets.
Outdoor amenities at Musick Guard Station are also noteworthy. There is a "great outdoor fire pit" that also features a built-in stove, providing options for campfires and outdoor cooking with a pan. A large picnic table is situated next to the fire ring, offering a dedicated space for outdoor dining and gathering. Additionally, a firewood box is provided on the deck, although visitors should be aware that firewood is not supplied. It is advisable to bring your own firewood to take advantage of the fire pit and wood stove. For navigation to the cabin, one visitor took NF-22 to Champion Creek Rd. While they managed the drive in a FWD Mini Cooper after a hesitant "yes" from the Cottage Grove Ranger District regarding sedan accessibility, they strongly recommend against this route in a sedan unless you have experience with mudding or off-road driving due to potential for high-centering and getting stuck.
A valuable tip from a visitor to enhance your privacy is to bring a laminated sign indicating that the cabin is rented. Clipping this to the welcome sign at the driveway entrance can help prevent unwanted visitors who might otherwise stop by, ensuring a more secluded and uninterrupted stay.
Given that Musick Guard Station is a historic cabin rental managed by the forest service, the features lean towards a more primitive and self-sufficient camping experience. The absence of electricity and running water means that visitors need to come prepared with their own lighting (lanterns are specifically recommended) and drinking water. This rustic charm is part of the appeal for those seeking a more traditional and off-grid "camping near me" adventure.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Musick Guard Station in the provided reviews. As it is likely managed by the US Forest Service, pricing and availability information would typically be found on the official recreation.gov website or by contacting the Cottage Grove Ranger District directly at the provided phone number. Local users interested in booking this unique camping experience should check these resources for the most up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any specific regulations or booking procedures.
In conclusion, Musick Guard Station near Cottage Grove, Oregon, offers a distinctive "camping near me" opportunity for local users seeking a secluded and rustic cabin experience. Its gated privacy, efficient wood stove, ample sleeping space for groups up to 10, and outdoor fire pit with a built-in stove make it ideal for families or groups looking to get away from it all. While the lack of electricity and running water requires self-sufficiency, the charm of a historic cabin and the peaceful environment provide a unique alternative to traditional campgrounds. Remember to bring your own bedding, water, lighting, and firewood, and consider the recommended signage for privacy. For the most accurate booking information and any potential seasonal promotions, contact the Cottage Grove Ranger District or visit recreation.gov to plan your memorable retreat to Musick Guard Station.

Musick Guard Station Reviews
Loved this guard station. Relaxing area, gated and private. No random people walked through. Cabin has bunks without mattresses. The wood stove heated the entire cabin well. Great outdoor fire pit with a built in stove as well.
Oct 26, 2019 · Dotty ScottWhat a great cabin! The route that I took was NF-22 --> Champion Creek Rd. The vehicle that was driven was a FWD Mini Cooper. Before I left I called the Cottage Grove Ranger District to ask if a sedan could make the drive mentioned earlier and I was answered with a hesitant "yes". While this is correct I would not recommend this drive in a sedan unless you have experience muddin' or driving off road. Lots of opportunists were presented to high center and get your car stuck.I would also recommend bringing a laminated sign that says the cabin is rented. It can be clipped to the welcome sign when you first enter the driveway to the cabin. If you don't you will get lots of visitors. The cabin is two stories and can sleep a total of 10 people; eight on the 2nd floor and two on the 1st floor. No electricity or water is provided so don't forget your drinking water and lanterns. A proper wood burning cooking stove is provided in the main living room. The stove had two burners on the top and a oven big enough to cook a couple of pies. The dinning table can comfortable seat 8 people. The kitchen has a small table for preparing food and enough counter space to cook a meal big enough for 10 people. While the cabin does not have running water the sink does drain to the outside (some of the forest service cabins I have rented in the past have the sink drain into a bucket under the sink). On the deck there is a firewood box with no wood in it. The outside area has a large picnicking table next to a fire ring and a 'mini" stove that you could cook food on with a pan.Keep in mind that this cabin is located in a area where ATV's and dirt bikes are used and you will hear them. Other than that this is a great little cabin and I cant wait to come visit it again!
Oct 01, 2018 · Christopher AndersonBeautiful. Cozy cabin and a great area to explore. Not really a great place for cars. 4x4 is the way to go. Especially if you're following google maps direction which is not maintained
Sep 14, 2019 · Andi AstoriaThe main building was burned up in the fires in '23.
Nov 01, 2024 · Matt DealyNice place to rent. Beautiful. Bring your atvs or horses. The roads getting there can be rough. Very rough. Do your research on how to get there!!
