Parramore's Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a serene "camping near me" experience nestled along the waterways of Central Florida, Parramore's Campground, located at 1675 Camp South Moon Rd in Astor, FL 32102, presents an appealing option. Situated on an oxbow off of the St. Johns River and within a short boat ride of Lake George, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty, updated facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere, as highlighted by positive customer feedback. With a history stretching back to the 1980s, Parramore's has evolved from a rustic fish camp to a well-maintained retreat, making it a hidden gem for those seeking tranquility and access to the St. Johns River system.
The Peaceful Environment on the St. Johns River:
Parramore's Campground benefits from its location on an oxbow of the St. Johns River, promising a quieter and more secluded environment compared to campgrounds directly on larger bodies of water. An oxbow lake is a U-shaped lake formed when a wide bend in a river is cut off, creating a still body of water adjacent to the main flow. This setting likely provides calm waters ideal for fishing, kayaking, and simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The proximity to the St. Johns River also offers opportunities for boating and exploring the wider river system, including a short 15-minute boat ride to the vast expanse of Lake George, Florida's second-largest lake.
The mature trees and natural vegetation typical of the St. Johns River basin likely characterize the campground's landscape, offering shade and a sense of being immersed in nature. The "beautiful restful" description from a reviewer suggests a well-maintained environment conducive to relaxation. The mention of a deck next to the boat dock with corn hole further indicates areas designed for leisure and enjoying the waterfront views. For those seeking a break from the noise and bustle of everyday life, Parramore's location on a quiet oxbow offers a significant draw.
Updated Services and Well-Maintained Facilities:
According to a long-time visitor, Parramore's Campground has undergone significant improvements over the years. Once described as a collection of "run down trailers," the facilities are now reported to be "much more up to date and clean." This suggests that while the campground retains its charm, it now offers a higher standard of comfort and maintenance for its guests. Based on the customer reviews, potential services and features include:
- Level Campsites: One reviewer specifically mentioned their campsite being level, which is crucial for both RV and tent camping to ensure comfort and proper setup.
- Hookups: The same reviewer noted "very reliable and seemingly new hookups," indicating that the RV sites are equipped with essential utilities, likely including electricity and water. Sewer hookups may also be available but should be confirmed directly.
- Fantastic Fire Pits: The presence of a "fantastic fire pit" at a campsite suggests that campers can enjoy campfires (subject to local regulations) and the ambiance of an outdoor fire.
- Picnic Tables: A standard amenity at most campgrounds, picnic tables provide a convenient space for outdoor meals and activities at each campsite.
- Immaculate Showers: A reviewer praised the "immaculate showers," highlighting the cleanliness and quality of the restroom facilities, which is a significant factor for camper comfort.
- Cabin Rentals: For those seeking a more sheltered accommodation option, Parramore's offers cabins. A guest who stayed in a cabin was "really pleased with all that was provided in the kitchen," suggesting that the cabins are well-equipped for self-catering. While described as "old," the cabins are also noted to be "VERY well maintained," indicating a commitment to cleanliness and upkeep.
- Boat Dock: The presence of a boat dock underscores the campground's direct access to the St. Johns River system, making it ideal for boating and fishing enthusiasts.
- Recreational Area: The mention of a deck next to the boat dock with corn hole suggests that the campground provides recreational activities for guests to enjoy during their stay.
- Helpful and Responsive Staff: Both reviews commend the staff as "great and super helpful and responsive," indicating a positive and supportive service environment for campers.
One area for potential improvement noted by a long-time visitor is the Wi-Fi access. Currently, Wi-Fi is only available at the office, which may be inconvenient for guests wanting internet access at their campsites or cabins. The suggestion of an antenna in each unit reflects the increasing expectation for reliable internet connectivity in the modern era. However, the reviewer also notes that this is a minor inconvenience given the overall value and experience.
Features and Activities Focused on the River and Relaxation:
The primary features of Parramore's Campground revolve around its access to the St. Johns River and the tranquil environment it offers. Key activities and features include:
- Fishing: Being a former "Fish Camp" and located on the St. Johns River, fishing is likely a major draw. The river is known for its diverse fish population, offering opportunities for both casual and serious anglers.
- Boating: The boat dock provides direct access for those wishing to explore the St. Johns River and nearby Lake George by boat.
- Kayaking and Canoeing: The calm waters of the oxbow are likely well-suited for kayaking and canoeing, allowing guests to explore the local waterways at a leisurely pace.
- Wildlife Viewing: The St. Johns River basin is rich in wildlife, offering opportunities to observe birds, alligators, and other native fauna.
- Relaxation: The "beautiful restful" and "super quiet place" descriptions highlight the campground's appeal for those seeking a peaceful escape from more crowded or activity-filled destinations.
- Family Memories: The long history of one family returning to Parramore's underscores its suitability as a place to create lasting family memories in a natural setting.
The proximity to Lake George, a large and significant lake in Florida, further expands the potential for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities for those staying at Parramore's Campground.

Parramore's Campground Reviews
My family has been coming to Parramores Fish Camp since the 80’s. This was my grandparents favorite place and we stayed yearly (even the years that the docks burnt down). It is one of the hidden gems and we have made many a family memory here. In the old days it was just a bunch of run down trailers where you rested in between fishing, but these days it is much more up to date and clean. The staff is great amd super helpful and responsive. My only suggestion would be improved WiFi considering the era that we are in. As it is you have to go to the office to have WiFi, but for the price it’s not too much to ask for an antenna in each unit. Other than that, it has been well maintained and definitely recommend if you’re looking for a super quiet place on an oxbow off of the St. John’s river. 15 minute boat ride from Lake George. You won’t regret.
Mar 21, 2025 · Ben MarpleBeautiful restful campground with wonderful staff, immaculate showers. Our campsite was level, came with a fantastic fire pit, picnic table and very reliable and seemingly new hookups. We had a wonderful time. Friends stayed in one of the cabins and were really pleased with all that was provided in the kitchen. The cabin itself was old but VERY well maintained. We especially enjoyed playing corn hole on deck next to the boat dock. We have already booked a return. Thank you
Jan 16, 2025 · Bram DasuThought this place was pretty decent other then the campers being right on top of another stayed here for 2 months was out taking my dog to go to the restroom well where the dog bags where there was a dog growling and barking at me and my 100 pound German Shepard I’m pregnant with a fractured ankle we where right by my camper I put my dog away real quick and come back out to pick up after him as I always do and some guy comes up on a golf cart yelling at me telling me I need to start picking up after my dog and his business matched what’s been “all over” super rude and un called for I can’t believe how unprofessional he acted there are ways to go about things if he asked me to pick it up I would of assured him the situation and not had to defend myself from being accused and yelled at, even after showing him I had bags in my pocket I got no apology nothing, i did not appreciate that at all especially with the amount of money I’ve paid to stay here
Dec 17, 2024 · Miranda CummingsBring your own towels. Room was very clean with a comfy bed. No Internet, not really any cable tv to speak of. It a fine spot for camping and fishing. Everything you might need is a few minutes away in DeLand.
Oct 19, 2024 · Amy BeckerHands down the most relaxing atmosphere I've had in a long time. Clean cabins with nice rooms. There was a nice grill and a fire pit right outside the cabin overlooking the river & our boat slips. Couldn't ask for a more relaxing atmosphere. The pool is another area that was super nice to come back to after a long day out on the boat spring hopping. If you're looking for somewhere on Lake George that's Friendly, Clean & Beautiful then I'd suggest Parramore's.. 5 stars all day long..The property is just Beautiful & unmolested, old school Florida all the way..
