Based on recent feedback from visitors, Patoka Lake appears to be a well-regarded destination offering clean facilities, friendly service, and a beautiful natural environment perfect for a memorable getaway.
One enthusiastic visitor described their experience as "very relaxing" and noted the cleanliness of the area, including visible staff cabins that were "super clean" and "well stocked." This emphasis on cleanliness and maintenance suggests that Patoka Lake prioritizes providing a comfortable and pleasant environment for its guests. The reviewer also highlighted the "very friendly folks" on staff, contributing to a welcoming and positive atmosphere. While they mentioned that the policies were "pretty strict," they also acknowledged that this strictness is likely the reason the facility is "ran well and maintained," indicating a commitment to quality and order that benefits all visitors.
A unique aspect of Patoka Lake mentioned by this first-time visitor is the parking pass setup, which requires going to a gas station to obtain the pass rather than getting it at the gate or office. While initially found to be "rather odd," the reviewer noted that "once you visit you know the drill," suggesting that this is a minor inconvenience that doesn't detract significantly from the overall experience. This points to the importance of being aware of specific procedures upon arrival to ensure a smooth check-in process.
For those considering accommodation beyond traditional camping, Patoka Lake offers cabin rentals, which were described as having "very reasonable" prices during the off-season. This could be an attractive option for local users seeking a more comfortable stay, especially during cooler months. Additionally, the availability of "fair" priced boat rentals adds another dimension to the recreational opportunities at Patoka Lake. The reviewer specifically mentioned the intention to rent a pontoon boat or the "princess houseboat" on their next trip, indicating that the lake is a significant feature and offers enjoyable on-water experiences for families and groups.
Overall, this first-time visitor "enjoyed my time there with family" and stated definitively, "we will definitely be back." This strong endorsement speaks volumes about the positive impression Patoka Lake made and its potential as a recurring destination for local users looking for "camping near me" with a variety of lodging and activity options.
Another visitor, while initially "a little concerned because of the reviews" (though the specifics of those reviews are not provided), reported an overall "great experience." This suggests that perhaps any negative feedback might be isolated incidents or that the positive aspects of Patoka Lake outweigh any potential drawbacks. This reviewer rented a large pontoon boat, described as a "number 47 a 16 passenger," and accommodated 15 people comfortably. While they noted that the boat wasn't as fast as they had hoped (understandable with a full capacity), they were highly complimentary of the staff at check-in and check-out, describing them as "AMAZING." This positive interaction with the staff further reinforces the friendly and helpful service mentioned by the other reviewer.
This second reviewer also expressed satisfaction with the value, stating, "For the price we paid I was very satisfied!" This highlights the affordability of the experience, particularly when considering the capacity and enjoyment derived from the boat rental. It suggests that Patoka Lake offers a good balance between cost and the quality of the recreational activities provided.

The availability of cabin rentals extends the camping season and provides a comfortable option for those seeking a less rustic experience. The boat rentals open up a world of on-water activities, perfect for enjoying the scenic beauty of the lake with family and friends. While the reviews don't explicitly mention traditional tent camping, the name "Patoka Lake" suggests that campsites are likely available in addition to the cabins.

Very relaxing ,clean ,visible staff cabins are well kept super clean well stocked. Very friendly folks pretty strict on their policies but that's why it's ran well and maintained. Parking pass setup is rather odd you have to go to the gas station to get your pass not at the gate or office kinda strange but once you visit you know the drill it was my family's first visit to patoka. Cabin prices off season are very reasonable boat rentals seem fair. We will definitely have a pontoon boat or the princess houseboat next trip. Apr 18, 2024 · Tim EI was a little concerned because of the reviews but overall it was a great experience...we got the number 47 a 16 passenger and took 15. There was plenty of room! The boat wasn't as fast as I had hoped but hey there were 15 people on board. The staff at check in and check out were AMAZING. For the price we paid I was very satisfied!
Jun 14, 2021 · Cory BrownOur favorite local lake! Its soo much cleaner than the others. The campground is beautiful and hads lots of wildlife
Jul 20, 2024 · Heather DirtRoadDanesI love camping at the fisherman's camp inside Patoka Lake. They have nice camp sites and decent outhouses. There's a fish cleaning station, which makes cleaning our catch much easier. I go for the fishing and the mushroom hunting! Make sure you don't eat more fish then the allotted amount for this lake. . . . .
Jul 09, 2019 · Benjamin HarrisThe campsite we had was awesome! The bathrooms were nice and clean, as where the showers. The sites are also nice and spread apart. You aren't on top of your neighbor. It's also really nice that they have a camp store, as we forgot alot of stuff and had to make multiple trips to it. It wasn't really a problem but we didn't have our dogs with us, but they do have alot of skunks running around. It was cool to see but don't get too close! Also we had deer come really close to our campsite.
