Pillow Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Pillow, Pennsylvania area? Pillow Campground, located at 307 Market St, Pillow, PA 17080, USA, offers a small and cozy camping experience alongside the Mahantango Creek. You can reach them at (570) 758-2040 or +1 570-758-2040. Recently reopened after being closed for several years due to flood damage, Pillow Campground is in the process of getting back on its feet. Reviews indicate a basic but reasonably priced offering, with a quiet atmosphere ideal for relaxation. However, potential campers should be aware of the ongoing recovery, limited amenities, and the creek's flood history.
Environment: Creek-Side Setting with Flood History
Pillow Campground is situated right on the Mahantango Creek, providing a creek-side environment for campers. This location offers the natural ambiance of being near water, which can be appealing for those seeking a tranquil setting. However, it's important to note that the campground has a history of flooding, reportedly about once a year, sometimes quite badly. The campground recently reopened after a three-year hiatus caused by flood damage, and some creek debris may still be present on the ground. Despite this, the park is generally described as being kept up nicely. While the creek-side setting is a feature, potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of the flood risk. Additionally, some road noise, occasionally sounding like a highway, can be heard, although it's not constant due to the road not being heavily traveled.
Services and Amenities: Basic and Developing
Given its recent reopening, the services and amenities at Pillow Campground are somewhat basic, and it appears they are still working on improvements. Based on the reviews, here's what you can expect:
- Campsites: Sites are grass and stone, mostly level but not well-defined. Electrical hookups are reported as 30 amp at all sites. Water available is non-potable, and there is no sewer hookup at the individual sites. A dump station is available on the way out. Power and water are sometimes shared between two sites, so campers might need to run extension cables depending on their setup. No picnic tables are provided, but each site has a fire ring off to the side.
- Bath House: There is only one bathhouse, located at the front of the campground, which might be a considerable walk from some sites. The bathrooms are described as outdated but appear to be clean, although their age might give a dingy impression to some.
- Playgrounds: There are two small and dated playgrounds.
- Laundry: A pay-to-use washer and dryer are available, although their functionality is not detailed.
- Camp Store and Restaurant: The camp store and restaurant are permanently closed, so campers must bring all necessary supplies. A 7-Eleven is about 5 miles away, and a Walmart is approximately 7 miles in the opposite direction.
- Cabin Rental: There is one cabin available for rent, but the rates are not specified.
For local users looking for "camping near me" with essential hookups and a quiet atmosphere, Pillow Campground offers these basics at a reported price of $40 per night for campers with electric and water. However, the limited and somewhat dated amenities should be considered.
Features: Quiet Relaxation and Creek Proximity
The standout features of Pillow Campground seem to be:
- Quiet Atmosphere: Campers generally keep to themselves, resulting in a mostly quiet environment, aside from occasional traffic noise. This makes it suitable for those looking to relax at their campsite without much disturbance.
- Proximity to Mahantango Creek: Being right on the creek offers a pleasant natural backdrop and potential for creek-related activities (though this is not detailed).
- Friendly Management: The park manager, Butch, is mentioned as going out of his way to ensure visitors have an enjoyable stay and is readily available to answer questions via the campground's website.
While it lacks amenities like a swimming pool or organized activities, Pillow Campground's appeal lies in its peaceful setting and the attentive service of its manager. For locals seeking "camping near me" focused on quiet relaxation in a natural environment, these features might be attractive.
Promotional Information: Reopening and Value Pricing
The fact that Pillow Campground has reopened after a three-year closure due to flood damage is a key piece of information for potential visitors. The reviews suggest that the pricing is reasonable for what is currently offered, especially considering the electric and water hookups. The availability of seasonal sites and the fact that the campground is not always at full capacity might also be seen as a form of implicit promotion, indicating that there are opportunities to book a stay. For local users searching for "camping near me" that is in the process of recovery and offers a quieter, more basic camping experience at a potentially good value, Pillow Campground might be appealing. Contacting Butch, the park manager, directly via the Pillow Campground website is encouraged for the most up-to-date information and to address any specific questions.
Your Local Option for a Relaxing Creek-Side Camp

Pillow Campground Reviews
Nice little campground, but still working on getting back on its feet. Campground was closed for several years, then purchased and reopened this year. There is a lot of polishing needed yet, but the price is good for what you get. Looks like 30 amp at all sites, non potable water, and no sewer. The only bath house is at the front of the campground and is quite a walk. There is a dumpster and dump station on your way out. The sites are grass and stone, mostly level, but not well defined. There are no tables provided, but there was a fire ring off to the side. There are a 2 playgrounds, both are small and dated. Oh, and there is a single power drop and water tap for two sites, so be prepared to possibly run a cable from your door side depending where you park.
May 30, 2021 · Rc BrehmIt's a nice small and cozy campground. $40 per night for campers with electric and water hookup, you can dump the tanks on the way out. There are seasonal sites and there appears to be openings since it's not full to capacity. There is one cabin that is rented out but not sure of the rates. There are no activities and the bathrooms are plenty outdated but appear to be clean if you can get past the age because that makes it look kind of dingy to me.There is a pay to use washer and dryer, not sure how well they work. The campgrounds is right on the Mahantango creek and it floods here about once a year, pretty badly.Pillow campground just reopened after a three year hiatus due to flood damage, so there is still a lot of creek debris on the ground. The park is kept up nicely otherwise. You can hear noise from the road, sounds like a highway sometimes but it's not a heavily traveled road therefore it's not constant.Butch is the park manager and he goes out of his way to make sure everyone has an enjoyable visit. The camp store and restaurant is permanently closed so make sure you bring everything you need. 7-11 is about 5 miles away and WalMart is about 7 miles on the opposite direction.Other than a few nice swing sets, slides and play cabins there are no other amenities, like swimming pools or bingo nights to occupy the kiddos. The campers here pretty much keep to themselves and it's overall pretty quiet, except the occasional traffic.I think it's a nice place to camp of you're looking to relax at your campsite and not be bothered. If you have any questions you can get the number for the park manager on the pillow campground website, you will get right to Butch and he's always happy to help someone out.
