For a city campground nestled between a lake; cornfields; and a soccer field it was just fine for hubby and I.The white Oaks and Hickory trees provided welcomed shelter (but in September/October watch out for falling nuts and pods (which did crack a neighbors skylight frame).Electricity and water for $15, an old but clean shower house with flush toilets; and a dump station. There is no hose for POTABLE water at the dump station.Apparently, there is a north and south (upper and lower) campground. We stayed in the upper.Turn towards the soccer field, then the loop will be on your left nestled into the park.A well kept, old-fashioned playground is to your left just before the loop. (Metal slide, teeter-totter; tall swings)When we arrived on a Sunday in September there was a soccer tournament going on with about 350 kids, concessions, and cheers. Few campers remained afterward.A neighbor was there to fish. The lake has a host of fish. There’s a beach/picnic area on the opposite side of the lake to fish at.The lake did not seem accessible by foot from this campground. - Sandy Trapp

Pittsfield Lake Campground Introduce

For local residents in Illinois searching for "camping near me," Pittsfield Lake Campground, located at 3252 E, Pittsfield, IL 62363, USA, offers a unique camping experience nestled within the city, bordered by a lake, cornfields, and a soccer field. You can reach them for inquiries at (217) 285-4484 or their mobile number +1 217-285-4484.

Based on feedback from recent visitors, Pittsfield Lake Campground provides a convenient camping option within the city limits. The environment is characterized by a blend of natural and recreational elements, with the campground situated alongside a lake and adjacent to cornfields and a soccer field. The presence of mature trees, specifically "white Oaks and Hickory trees," offers welcome shade and a natural aesthetic. However, campers visiting in September or October should be aware of falling nuts and pods, as one reviewer noted this could potentially cause damage to camping equipment, even cracking a neighbor's skylight frame.

In terms of services, Pittsfield Lake Campground offers basic but functional amenities. Campers can expect electricity and water hookups for a reasonable fee of $15. The campground also features an "old but clean shower house with flush toilets," providing essential hygiene facilities. A dump station is available for RV users; however, it is important to note that there is "no hose for POTABLE water at the dump station," so campers needing to replenish their fresh water tanks will need to do so at their campsite or another designated location.

The campground appears to be divided into a north (upper) and south (lower) section. One reviewer stayed in the upper campground, providing directions for locating it: turn towards the soccer field, and the loop will be on your left, nestled within the park. This suggests that the upper campground offers a degree of seclusion within the broader recreational area.

Families with children will appreciate the presence of a "well kept, old-fashioned playground" located to the left just before the upper campground loop. The playground features classic equipment such as a metal slide, teeter-totter, and tall swings, offering simple but enjoyable entertainment for kids.

The proximity to the soccer field can result in significant activity at certain times. One reviewer who arrived on a Sunday in September encountered a soccer tournament with approximately 350 children, concessions, and accompanying noise. However, they noted that few campers remained after the tournament concluded, suggesting that the campground generally offers a quieter atmosphere outside of such events. It would be advisable for potential campers to inquire about any scheduled events at the adjacent soccer field during their intended stay.

For those interested in fishing, Pittsfield Lake is reported to have "a host of fish." While the lake did not seem directly accessible by foot from the upper campground, there is a beach and picnic area on the opposite side of the lake that is available for fishing. This indicates that while a short drive or walk might be necessary to access the lakefront, opportunities for angling are available.

Another reviewer described Pittsfield Lake Campground as a "little gem" and highlighted its quiet and friendly atmosphere. They also emphasized that "The fishing is awesome!" and that it is their favorite activity at the campground, leading them to visit once a year. This positive feedback reinforces the appeal of the campground for those seeking a peaceful environment and good fishing opportunities.

Based on the available reviews, Pittsfield Lake Campground offers a convenient and relatively affordable camping option within the city of Pittsfield. Its location near a lake provides opportunities for fishing, although direct lake access from the upper campground may be limited. The presence of mature trees offers shade, but campers should be mindful of falling debris in the autumn. Basic amenities such as electricity, water, a clean shower house with flush toilets, and a dump station are provided, although potable water is not available at the dump station. Families will appreciate the well-maintained playground. While the proximity to a soccer field can lead to temporary noise during events, the campground is generally described as quiet and friendly.

For local users searching for "camping near me" who appreciate a city campground with lakeside access for fishing, basic amenities, and a quiet atmosphere, Pittsfield Lake Campground is worth considering. The affordable price for electricity and water hookups makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers. Families with young children will find the playground a welcome addition. However, potential visitors should be aware of the potential for noise from soccer tournaments and the need to access the lake's fishing area from the opposite side. The lack of potable water at the dump station is also an important consideration for RV users.

To obtain more information about campsite availability, lake access from different campground sections, and the schedule of events at the adjacent soccer field, local users are encouraged to contact Pittsfield Lake Campground directly at (217) 285-4484 or +1 217-285-4484. Inquiring about any specific regulations regarding the collection of potable water would also be beneficial. The positive feedback regarding the quiet and friendly atmosphere, coupled with the fishing opportunities, suggests a potentially enjoyable "camping near me" experience for those who value these aspects and are prepared for the campground's specific characteristics and limitations.
