This location provides campers with stunning lake views and abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation. The campground is situated within a wooded area, offering shade and a sense of immersion in nature. For tent campers, the campground provides designated tent sites. One reviewer noted that some sites could benefit from more stone cover, as they were becoming more dirt than rocks, potentially leading to a mess inside tents, especially after rain. However, this appears to be a minor point in an otherwise positive assessment of the campground's overall quality.
A standout feature of Red Top Mountain State Park Campground is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The proximity of these trails to the campground is a significant advantage for campers who enjoy outdoor activities.
It's important to note a point of caution raised by one reviewer regarding the accuracy of the pictures on the Georgia State Parks website. They mentioned that there is a "good chance you will get here and not have the site you think you booked" due to outdated imagery. Therefore, it is advisable for potential campers to contact the campground directly at (800) 864-7275 or +1 800-864-7275 to confirm the specifics of their chosen campsite and to get the most up-to-date information about the campground layout and current conditions.
The reviewer also mentioned a current pine beetle infestation affecting the park, resulting in numerous dead and downed pine trees and brush piles. While they noted that this is less of an issue during the winter, they cautioned that it could potentially lead to critter problems during the summer months, especially for sites located close to these piles. This is an important piece of information for campers to be aware of when selecting their campsite and planning their stay, particularly during warmer seasons.

Red Top Mountain State Park Campground Reviews
Wonderful campground. Facilities are clean and hosts are really nice. Pictures on GA state parks website are not up to date. There is a good chance you will get here and not have the site you think you booked. Currently a pine beetle infestation in they are trying to handle so lots of dead and downed pine trees and brush piles. Some sites are very close to these piles. In the winter this doesn’t matter (best time to be here anyway) but in the summer I can imagine this is a critter issue. Over all great campground with great trails within walking distance.
Feb 23, 2025 · Luke SimmonsCan’t say enough about this campground and was a pleasure to return back since I haven’t been there since the early 90s. This campground is so well run, clean, friendly…everything you would want. From checkIn with the super nice staff to the park team with a friendly wave for their daily duty. I stayed in site #14 as it looked the most private and last minute booking only had a few options left. If I had to ding Red Top campground on anything, it would be to please put more stones on some of the sites…where I set up my tent, it was becoming more dirt than rocks which made my tent a bit of a mess for two nights. Just more investment is needed here.
Apr 27, 2025 · Peter BrusaGorgeous campground with huge sites on the water, clean modern bathrooms-showers. Beautiful well marked trails with lake access. Definite return trip in our future.
Apr 24, 2025 · Bethany BozzutoThe park customer service gave us a fast and reliable service. We have some problems with the power outlet. Maintenence came fast to help. Bathrooms and showers were spotless, very clean. We will be back soon
Apr 26, 2025 · Victor RivasVery nice and well maintained campground. Restrooms are very clean and roads are well kept up. Campsite has fresh water, power outlets, picnic table and fire pit. Only complaint is majority of campsites are very close together
