My husband travel's for work so we normally like to stay at KOA's but this one is by far the WORST one we have EVER stayed at!First we got here after emailing a week prior and speaking on the phone, sending photos of our camper and everything and they acted like they had no idea we were coming. Not a very good feeling when we have a baby and traveled all the way from Ohio thinking we had a spot. They then hurried up and put us in a spot. Mind you we pay monthly so once we pay we are here because they don't give money back. Not a big deal, UNTIL we fully set up for our water to stop working! My husband told them right away and we had to wait a whole day to move spots. Also wouldn't have been as bad if their showers/bathroom wasn't absolutely discussing! Also smell of pee and poop, showers have gunk built up in the corners, water all over the floor every time you go in, and trash never changed. We moved to the spot next to us and about a week later they had workers come and dig up the spigot next to us to fix it and instantly our camper smelled like the pipes were backing up. We told them about it and their answer was "shut both tanks". That's fine we do that anyways but every time we dump them our camper fills with the smell. After literally offering to show them and them denying to come check it out we are leaving two weeks into paying the month. The rest of the problems seem small to that but they consist of being denied laundry mat because the lady with the big red hair who lives and works here is ALWAYS pushing people out, she walks her dog and gives dirty looks to our children and can not answer simple questions without being rude! The rest of the staff is amazing. You can just tell the management is nowhere around! and none knows what is going on.We love KOA but this one has defiantly changed our opinion. - Angelin Dalton

Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown Journey Introduce

Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown Journey, situated at 2100 Garson Rd, Verdi, NV 89439, USA, is a campground that caters to a wide range of campers, from those on a cross-country road trip looking for a few nights' stay to individuals seeking extended visits. When local users search for "Camping Near Me," this KOA location often appears as a prominent option due to its affiliation with the well-known KOA brand and its strategic location near the Reno metropolitan area and various attractions. Prospective campers can contact the campground directly at (775) 345-2444 or +1 775-345-2444 for reservations and inquiries.

The environment of Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown presents a fascinating duality, offering both natural beauty and proximity to entertainment. Some campers have described the campground as having "the most amazing view of the river, train track, aqueduct, and the mountains" when staying in spots along the back row fence. This suggests scenic vistas that provide a tranquil natural backdrop to the camping experience. The campground is also noted as being "very green with sprinklers on at night and the trees in the middle are nice for shade," indicating a commitment to maintaining a pleasant and verdant landscape. The general impression for many is that it is a "clean, well taken care of campground" and often "peaceful and quiet." However, it's worth noting that the proximity to I-80 means some sites might experience road noise. The direct adjacency to Boomtown Casino & Hotel also significantly shapes the environment, offering urban amenities just steps away from a natural setting. There are also reports of nearby construction potentially causing noise. Some reviews mention that while some areas are well-maintained, others, particularly those with long-term residents, can appear "run down" or "unsightly" with "debris surrounding their RV." This suggests a varied aesthetic experience depending on the specific site and section of the park.

Services at Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown are comprehensive, aiming to provide a comfortable stay. The campground offers full hookups at every RV site, including 50-amp service, water, and sewer, which are standard for a KOA Journey. Wi-Fi and cable TV are also available, though some reviews suggest internet bandwidth can be limited due to the remote location or be "non-existent." A registration office and a "little store" are on-site, providing essentials and a convenient check-in point. Laundry facilities are also available, though one review mentions inconsistent access due to staff presence and limited hours. A seasonal heated pool and spas are available (typically May-October), offering a recreational outlet. Security is a prominent feature, with "Security came through a few times a day and night with flashing lights" and guards seen "walking around the pool area," which suggests a proactive approach to maintaining safety within the campground. Shuttle service to the adjacent casino is also a notable convenience for guests looking to access Boomtown's offerings without driving. It's important to note the stated hours for facilities, with "AFTER-HOUR BATHROOMS ARE OPEN FROM 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM DAILY" and a requirement to "HAVE A RESTROOM ON BOARD TO CAMP AT OUR FACILITY." This specific detail is critical for campers, especially those in smaller rigs or tents (though the KOA website specifies it is strictly RV sites only and no tent camping permitted) who rely solely on public restrooms, and it has been a point of frustration for some. KampK9® dog walk areas are also available for pet owners. There are reports of issues with water pressure at some sites, with recommendations to use a water pressure regulator. Maintenance issues, such as water stopping or sewer odors, have been reported by some long-term guests, with some finding management unresponsive to these concerns, contrasting with other positive reports of helpful maintenance staff.

The features of Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown highlight its unique blend of outdoor recreation and casino entertainment. One of the most significant features is its direct connection to the Boomtown Casino & Hotel. This proximity grants campers "full access to resort hotel amenities," including "nightlife, entertainment, shops, restaurants and, of course, big-time gaming excitement." Specifically, the "30,000 square foot Family Fun Center" at Boomtown, boasting video games, mini golf, a carousel, and more, is a major draw, especially for families with children, compensating for the apparent lack of a dedicated playground within the campground itself, though KOA's own site indicates a playground is open. The nearby Cabela's store, with its taxidermy displays, live fish tank, and shooting gallery, also offers an interesting diversion. For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground's location near the Truckee River provides opportunities for hiking, fishing, and biking, with mountain views. RV sites generally offer pull-through access and are designed to accommodate large rigs (up to 55 feet), making it convenient for travelers. However, some reviews indicate that sites can be "close together" or "small," and "not level." While many reviews praise the staff as "amazing," "friendly," and "helpful," there are isolated but severe negative accounts concerning initial check-in confusion, unresolved water/sewer issues leading to unpleasant odors, and specific staff members exhibiting rudeness or hindering access to laundry facilities. These inconsistencies in staff performance and maintenance are significant features that prospective campers should be aware of, as they directly impact the quality of the stay. The presence of long-term residents and older RVs in some areas has also been noted to affect the visual appeal for some guests. Deluxe sites are advertised as having a BBQ, firepit, and patio area.

For local users searching "Camping Near Me," Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown offers a compelling set of advantages and disadvantages. Its location provides easy access to Reno and its attractions, while also offering scenic natural views and recreational opportunities. The affiliation with Boomtown Casino & Hotel adds a unique entertainment dimension, making it more than just a typical campground. Promotional information can strongly emphasize the convenience of full hookups, the presence of a pool and store, 24-hour security, and especially the access to Boomtown's extensive amenities, including the Family Fun Center and the casino shuttle. Highlighting positive staff interactions and the beauty of the surrounding environment would also be beneficial. The KOA website also highlights its "Burning Man Friendly!" status, indicating it caters to attendees of that event. However, for an objective introduction, it's crucial to acknowledge the reported issues. Campers should be advised to confirm reservation details meticulously, especially for extended stays, and to inquire about the current status of water utilities and restroom cleanliness. Managing expectations regarding staff consistency and potential site conditions (e.g., leveling, proximity to neighbors, occasional odor issues) is also important. Despite some negative experiences, many reviews indicate a generally positive experience, particularly for those stopping for a few nights, with recent reviews often highlighting improved cleanliness and friendly staff. The "Journey" designation within the KOA brand often indicates a campground designed more for travelers passing through rather than a full-fledged destination resort, which might explain some of the amenity limitations or the nature of its clientele. Ultimately, Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown provides a unique blend of convenience, entertainment, and natural beauty, but potential visitors should consider all facets of its offerings based on diverse past guest experiences and verify current conditions directly with the campground.
