Love this place and have visited multiple times. Just visited during Presidents Day, and despite multiple road closures, we decided to trust our instincts over the GPS and take the usual route. If we had followed the GPS, it would have sent us all the way up to Taft, only to loop back to a section where a chunk of the road is actually missing. As others have mentioned, you can still get there from the other side by driving on the shoulder. For the best route I highly recommend:• Going through Frazier Park• Turning left onto Lockwood Valley Rd• Entering Camp Scheideck Road into your GPS (it will be on your left)Your gps will constantly try to reroute you but the roads were clear. We made it to the camp ground without any issues despite being in a low clearance Volkswagen GTI.We grabbed wood at gas station at Frazier park ($6 each) but the host sells bundles for $10 each. There’s plenty of hiking and highly recommend sunny spots during the winter months. It got pretty cold at night so pack accordingly. We blew through 6 bundles the first night. The hosts are friendly and kind.Happy camping! - Kimberly Haines

As part of the 'Camping Near Me' platform, we bring you a detailed introduction to this gem, highlighting its environment, services, features, and valuable insights from fellow adventurers to help you plan your next getaway.

Immerse Yourself in the Natural Beauty

Reyes Creek Campground is renowned for its breathtaking natural environment. Imagine waking up to the crisp mountain air, surrounded by towering trees and the soothing sounds of nature. This campground offers a genuine escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing a sanctuary where you can truly relax and recharge. The area boasts scenic hiking trails that cater to various fitness levels, allowing you to explore the stunning landscapes and discover hidden gems. During the winter months, the sunny spots within the campground are particularly inviting, offering warmth and comfort amidst the cooler temperatures. Be prepared for cooler nights, however, as the elevation brings a refreshing chill to the air.

Essential Services and Friendly Hosts

The hosts at Reyes Creek Campground, Shawna and Larry, are consistently praised for their warm hospitality, respectfulness, and positive energy. Their dedication to creating a welcoming atmosphere truly enhances the camping experience. While firewood can be purchased at the campground for $10 per bundle, some campers have found it convenient to pick up cheaper bundles ($6 each) at the gas station in Frazier Park before arriving. This local tip can help you save a little, especially if you plan on enjoying multiple campfires during your stay, as one reviewer mentioned using six bundles on a single chilly night. It's always a good idea to check with the hosts regarding firewood availability and any current campground regulations.

Navigating Your Journey: Important Route Information

Getting to Reyes Creek Campground is part of the adventure, and recent feedback from visitors provides crucial insights into the best route. It's important to note that relying solely on GPS might lead you astray due to occasional road closures. The recommended and most reliable route, even for low-clearance vehicles like a Volkswagen GTI, involves:

  • Traveling through Frazier Park.
  • Turning left onto Lockwood Valley Road.
  • Entering "Camp Scheideck Road" into your GPS – it will be on your left.

Campers have reported that their GPS systems often attempt to reroute them, but the roads along the recommended path have been clear. Trusting these directions over automated navigation can save you significant time and prevent unnecessary detours, such as the one involving Taft where a section of the road was reportedly missing. Following the shoulder on the alternative route is possible but less ideal than the suggested way through Frazier Park.
