River Forge RV Park and Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Harrogate, Tennessee area that offers a blend of natural beauty and convenient access to local attractions? River Forge RV Park and Campground, located at 2042 Forge Ridge Rd, Harrogate, TN 37752, USA, presents a camping option nestled along a creek in a valley. While customer reviews provide insights into both its appealing setting and areas needing improvement, it offers a strategically located base for exploring the region's natural and historical landmarks. For local users seeking a campground with potential and proximity to key points of interest, River Forge RV Park and Campground warrants consideration.
When looking for "camping near me," location often plays a crucial role. River Forge RV Park and Campground boasts an ideal location near the town of Harrogate and in close proximity to the renowned Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and Lincoln Memorial University. This makes it a potentially attractive option for local users who wish to explore these significant landmarks or who have ties to the university. The campground caters to both short-term campers and RVers, as well as offering long-term stays for workers and students in the area.
Environment and Ambiance:
The natural environment of River Forge RV Park and Campground is described as having a "nice setting along a creek in a valley." This suggests a potentially picturesque and tranquil atmosphere, with the soothing sounds of flowing water and the surrounding valley landscape. The presence of "river spots" is highlighted in one review as being particularly appealing. Additionally, the campground features "flowering bushes" that attract a variety of wildlife, including "tons of butterflies and humming birds," indicating a potentially vibrant and nature-rich environment for observation and enjoyment.
However, customer reviews also point out areas where the ambiance could be enhanced through better maintenance. Concerns are raised about unlevel campsites, the close proximity of sites to each other, and the lack of amenities such as picnic tables and fire pits at most sites. While the setting has natural charm, the overall experience might be affected by these maintenance issues. Despite these concerns, the campground is noted as being "quiet with a little road noise," suggesting a generally peaceful environment aside from some traffic sounds.
The presence of numerous long-term residents, including workers and students, contributes to the overall atmosphere. While one reviewer noted that this is not necessarily a problem, it's a characteristic that local users might want to be aware of, as it could influence the overall community feel of the campground.
Services and Amenities:
Customer reviews provide some insights into the services and amenities at River Forge RV Park and Campground. The staff is consistently described as "very courteous and helpful," which is a significant positive aspect of the service provided. Friendly and accommodating staff can greatly enhance the camping experience by offering assistance and information.
However, the reviews also indicate a lack of certain expected amenities. The absence of picnic tables and fire pits at most campsites is noted as a drawback, especially considering the price point mentioned by one reviewer. These are common features that many campers look for to enhance their outdoor cooking and relaxation experiences.
The campground appears to cater to both RVs and tents, although the specific types of hookups and the suitability of tent sites are not detailed. The issue of unlevel sites is particularly relevant for RVers needing a stable parking area and tent campers seeking a comfortable ground for their tents. The need for grading and gravel at most sites suggests that the infrastructure might be somewhat underdeveloped or in need of upkeep.
One positive note regarding services is the mention of a "fantastic" price for staying a month. This suggests that River Forge RV Park and Campground might be a budget-friendly option for local users seeking longer-term accommodation in the area, whether for work, study, or extended exploration of the region.
Features and Activities:
A key feature of River Forge RV Park and Campground is its location along a creek, which offers the opportunity for activities such as fishing. One reviewer mentioned catching "plenty of small mouth bass in the creek on fly," highlighting this as a potential recreational activity for guests. The "river spots" are also noted as being desirable campsites, likely due to their proximity to the water and the associated natural ambiance.
The campground's proximity to Cumberland Gap National Historic Park is a significant feature for those interested in history and natural beauty. The park offers numerous hiking trails, scenic overlooks, caves, and historical sites that tell the story of this important passage through the Appalachian Mountains. Local users staying at River Forge RV Park and Campground can easily access and explore this national treasure.
The closeness to Lincoln Memorial University is another locational feature that might be relevant for those visiting students, attending events, or conducting business at the university. The campground provides a convenient accommodation option for these purposes.
While the campground itself may lack some common amenities like picnic tables and fire pits, its strategic location provides access to a wealth of activities and attractions in the surrounding area. The natural setting along the creek also offers a more immediate opportunity for relaxation and enjoying the outdoors.

The "fantastic" price for monthly stays makes River Forge RV Park and Campground an attractive option for local users seeking affordable longer-term accommodation, whether for work or extended visits to the area.

River Forge RV Park and Campground Reviews
This campground has a nice setting along a creek in a valley. But, it has not been properly maintained. Most sites are quite unlevel - in need of grading and gravel. And most are quite close together and without picnic tables and firepits. Not what one expects at this price point. The location is ideal - close to town and to Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. Also close to Lincoln Memorial University. The park seemed to have numerous long term residents - both workers and students - not that this is a problem. The park was quiet with a little road noise. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The park could be lovely with a little effort and attention to detail.
Nov 12, 2023 · Susan SchwadererThis place could be special if they put some effort into cleaning it up and being on site. The river spots are great. The flowering bushes attract tons of butterflies and humming birds. We caught plenty of small mouth bass in the creek on fly.The price for staying a month is fantastic.
Sep 22, 2023 · Cruising with the ClemonsBeautiful newly updated campsite. RV's and campers parked too close together. Open your awning and you almost touch the next camper. Sites are severely overgrown. I had to remove the grass and weeds to find my water connection. Restrooms were always locked, unable to use the facilities. Visited the office many times, always locked, called the number no answer, texted the number, no answer. Do not leave your tank lines open when connected to sewer, your camper will quickly smell like sewer, since previously dumped sewer is not draining properly allowing for gas buildup at the site. This could be a beautiful campsite, but poorly managed with no service and maintenance! Campers were friendly and several students appear to be using the campsite for temporary residency.Good broadband WiFi is available. The service offers a free 1 hr test connection. Connection was great with my router, but when I went to sign up for a 3 day service for $20, I could not enter my credit card information to complete the transaction. The WiFi service does not allow for hotspot sharing. I have 5 internet connected devices in my camper for work on the go, and at $20/device it's too expensive. For what the site charges per day they should include free WiFi for their guests. It would have gone a long way to a better customer experience. Tried to contact the office, but no response.Warning to Cellular users. This campsite sits in a valley. Don't expect to be able to use your cell phone with Verizon service. Connection strength was less than one bar, and we could only send short texts. Voice communication was constantly being dropped. There are no cell phone repeater towers in this valley. To get proper cell service we had to drive toward town.
May 05, 2024 · Christian HuygenThey had the grass cut and all when we showed up. Bathrooms are Wonderful New, Warm, and Clean. Hot was lasted plenty. Washer and dryer available right by bathroom. Awning available also. The only complaint was the whole tent area was on a slope. Makes it kinda hard to set a bed flat. They also had cabins and camper spots for rent. Saw deer walking up the river. Right at us. Saw turkey fly down the river also. It was a very nice 3 night stay.
May 03, 2023 · Melissa MillerAll of our hookups/hoses are 60 feet which is usually much longer than what is needed. In order for us to have power and water we had to go off the gravel pad and as far back as possible (the hookup is to the right of the tree, it looks like it’s for the spot next to us but it is not). Then we couldn’t use the sewer because it was in front of the truck (second photo). In order to park where you are supposed to and utilize the full hookup you would need close to 100 feet of hose(s). The reason I am giving 2 stars is because communicating with the owners was easy. I’d seen the comment below saying spots were small and reached out and they sent a photo of our spot and even trimmed the tree. In photos it looks like the power is close but the boxes are on the left side of the camper. We were in spot 72 and I believe others you wouldn’t be as hard to hook everything up. However as a camper that is 43 feet with 5 slides I don’t think we would comfortably fit in ANY other spot. They are all close together. The bathhouse was nice and clean. That’s about it.
