River JCT Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Lone Tree, Iowa area, River JCT Campground, located at 6058-6000 Sand Rd SE, Lone Tree, IA 52755, USA, presents a "nice little hidden gem" offering varied camping options. While some aspects of the environment and specific features have received mixed reviews, the campground appears to cater to different camping styles. It's important for potential visitors to consider these reviews when planning their stay.
The environment of River JCT Campground is characterized by its proximity to the Iowa River. According to one review, the walk-in tent sites are particularly appealing, especially for groups with multiple tents. This suggests that these sites might offer more space and a greater sense of seclusion compared to other areas of the campground. However, the same review notes that the Iowa River in this particular location is not considered scenic, mentioning the presence of riprap and rebar along the banks. Additionally, a concerning observation was made regarding the presence of discarded needles, reportedly left by local drug users, urging caution for visitors. Swimming in the river is also advised against based on this review. This information is crucial for local users to consider if river access and aesthetics are important factors in their "camping near me" decision.
In contrast to the walk-in tent sites, other camping areas at River JCT are described as being better suited for car camping and small RVs. However, a potential drawback mentioned is that these sites are located relatively close to the loop drive within the campground and are not very well spaced. This could imply less privacy and potential noise from passing vehicles for campers in these areas. Another review notes that the campground experiences noise from a nearby highway, which might be a consideration for those seeking a completely quiet and secluded camping experience.
Information regarding specific services and amenities at River JCT Campground is somewhat limited in the provided reviews. However, based on the mention of different types of campsites (walk-in tent sites and car camping/small RV sites), it can be inferred that the campground offers basic infrastructure to support these camping styles. Walk-in tent sites typically include a designated area for pitching a tent and may have a fire ring or picnic table. Car camping and RV sites usually offer parking adjacent to the camping area and may include hookups for water and electricity, although this is not explicitly stated in the reviews. The presence of a "loop drive" suggests an organized layout for accessing the campsites.
The features of River JCT Campground appear to be somewhat varied depending on the type of campsite. The walk-in tent sites are highlighted for their suitability for groups, implying that they might be larger or located in a way that accommodates multiple tents more easily. The other sites cater to car campers and those with small RVs, suggesting easier vehicle access to these areas. The proximity to the Iowa River, despite its lack of scenic appeal in this section, might still offer opportunities for fishing or other river-related activities, although the warning against swimming should be heeded. The "hidden gem" description in one review suggests that the campground might offer a more secluded or less crowded experience overall, despite the noted drawbacks of highway noise and the condition of the riverbank.
No specific promotional information for River JCT Campground is included in the provided reviews. Local users searching for "camping near me" in the Lone Tree area would need to contact the campground directly or check online booking platforms for any potential discounts, seasonal rates, or special offers. Given the mixed reviews, it might be particularly helpful to inquire about the specific location and features of different campsites when making a reservation to ensure they meet individual needs and preferences. Asking about any recent efforts to address the concerns raised in the reviews, such as the cleanliness of the riverbank area, could also be beneficial.
In summary, River JCT Campground in Lone Tree, IA, offers a range of camping options, with walk-in tent sites being particularly suitable for groups. Other sites cater to car camping and small RVs but may be closer to the loop drive and less private. The proximity to the Iowa River might be a draw for some, although its scenic quality in this area is reportedly low, and there are safety concerns regarding swimming and discarded items. Noise from a nearby highway is also a factor to consider. Despite these drawbacks, the "hidden gem" descriptor suggests that the campground might still offer a pleasant camping experience for those who prioritize certain aspects, such as group tent camping or convenient access for car camping and small RVs, and are aware of the potential environmental and noise factors.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Lone Tree, IA, River JCT Campground presents a mixed picture based on the available reviews. The walk-in tent sites appear to be a strong point, especially for group camping. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with the scenic quality and safety of the Iowa River in the immediate vicinity, as well as the potential for noise from the highway and limited privacy in the car camping/RV areas. It is recommended to weigh these factors carefully and potentially seek more information from the campground directly before making a booking.

River JCT Reviews
Walk-in tent sites are nice, especially for a group with multiple tents. The other sites are better for car camping/small RVs.. they're a little too close to the loop drive and not well spaced. The Iowa River isn't scenic here: Lots of riprap and rebar. Local junkies have left a few needles laying around, so be careful. Not a great spot to swim.
Apr 03, 2024 · matthew goffNice little hidden gem. Great campground but there's a bit too much noise from the nearby highway.
Sep 21, 2023 · Joe HenkelmanDefinitely needs to be patrolled more between the hours of 11pm-3am.We camped three sleepless nights here because of the loud music, screaming and non stop vehicle traffic between these hours. Seen one Sheriff drive through just before 10pm. Otherwise it would be a nice quiet place.
Sep 13, 2021 · Rich FryIt's a a great camping spot other than the toilet. It's nasty it's been their for at least 40 years. You have to walk to far to use the toilet. It didn't bother me when camping there was free. Fishing is usually good if the water levels are reasonable boat ramp clean. Patrolled heavily by law enforcement
Oct 29, 2018 · Clayton FormanGreat little Johnson County park on the banks of the Iowa River. Park is well kept, clean & has good tree cover. Good for camping, fishing, boating, kayaks, canoes.
