Lighthouse Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Iowa City, Iowa area, Lighthouse Campground, located at 1112 Tower Ct, Iowa City, IA 52246, is one of the options that may appear. However, the single available customer review paints a highly unfavorable picture of this campground, raising significant concerns that potential visitors should carefully consider.
The reviewer recounts a first-time experience at Lighthouse Campground that was overwhelmingly negative. They express confusion about where to even begin in describing their dissatisfaction, immediately highlighting the challenging terrain of the campsite. The reviewer specifically mentions having to set up their tent on a "30 degree incline," which suggests uneven and potentially difficult conditions for pitching a tent and general campsite comfort. This could be a major drawback for local users seeking a level and stable area for their camping setup.
Noise levels appear to be a significant issue at Lighthouse Campground, according to the review. The reviewer notes being kept awake past midnight and specifically mentions a "crying baby at 3am," indicating a lack of a quiet and restful environment during sleeping hours. They explicitly state that this is "definitely the place for you if you don’t want to go to sleep until past midnight," implying disruptive noise from other campers or possibly the owners themselves.
The logistical aspects of checking in also seem problematic. The reviewer describes the check-in time as "unbelievably late" without specifying the exact time. This could cause significant inconvenience for local users arriving earlier and expecting to set up camp. Furthermore, the reviewer alleges that "the owners were up late into the night with no regard for their guests," further contributing to the noise issues and a perceived lack of consideration for campers' sleep and overall experience.
Perhaps the most concerning aspect highlighted in the review is the complete lack of access to bathroom facilities. The reviewer states unequivocally, "there was no access to a bathroom," and strongly advises individuals with "small bladders" to seek accommodation elsewhere. The absence of essential facilities like toilets and potentially washing areas poses a significant health and comfort concern for any camper. For local users accustomed to basic campground amenities, this lack of a bathroom would likely be a deal-breaker.
Finally, the reviewer expresses disappointment with the apparent lack of assistance or courtesy from the owners upon departure. They note that "it was proven that chivalry is dead when the owners stood by and watched us pack up our tent the next morning," suggesting a perceived lack of hospitality or willingness to assist guests, even after a clearly negative experience. The reviewer concludes by stating their continued search for a "welcoming campground in the Iowa City area," explicitly stating that Lighthouse Campground "definitely wasn’t it."
Based solely on this detailed and negative review, the environment of Lighthouse Campground appears to be characterized by uneven and inclined campsites that pose challenges for tent setup. The noise levels are reportedly high, extending late into the night and disrupting sleep. The overall atmosphere, influenced by the perceived inconsiderate behavior of the owners, seems unwelcoming.
In terms of services and features, the most glaring absence is access to bathroom facilities, a fundamental requirement for most campers. The review also suggests a late check-in time, which could be inconvenient. While electricity or water hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, or other typical campground amenities are not explicitly mentioned, the strong negative focus on the lack of a bathroom and the challenging campsite conditions overshadows any potential positive features.
There is no promotional information whatsoever in the provided review. Instead, it serves as a strong warning against staying at Lighthouse Campground based on the reviewer's experience. The complete absence of positive feedback or any mention of appealing aspects suggests that local users should approach this campground with extreme caution.
Given the severity of the issues raised in this single review – including challenging campsites, disruptive noise, late check-in, and the critical lack of bathroom facilities – local users searching for "camping near me" in the Iowa City area should carefully consider this feedback. While it is only one person's experience, the nature of the complaints, particularly the absence of a bathroom, is significant. It would be prudent to seek out additional reviews or information from other sources if available. However, based on the current information, Lighthouse Campground does not appear to offer the welcoming and comfortable experience that local campers typically seek. Potential visitors might want to explore other campgrounds in the Iowa City area to ensure a more positive and well-equipped "camping near me" option.

Lighthouse Campground Reviews
First time at Lighthouse Campground this past weekend. Where do I even start? I don’t know what I enjoyed more, the 30 degree incline I had to set my tent up on or the crying baby at 3am. This is definitely the place for you if you don’t want to go to sleep until past midnight. Check in wasn’t until unbelievably late and the owners were up late into the night with no regard for their guests. To top it all off, there was no access to a bathroom, so I would recommend those of you with small bladders to stay somewhere else. Furthermore, it was proven that chivalry is dead when the owners stood by and watched us pack up our tent the next morning. Still on the lookout for a welcoming campground in the Iowa City area, because this definitely wasn’t it.
