Main Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers passing through the Oxford, Iowa area, seeking "camping near me," Main Campground, located at 2048 US-6, Oxford, IA 52322, USA, presents itself as a potentially beautiful and secluded option. However, recent customer reviews offer a mixed perspective, highlighting both the scenic qualities and some potential drawbacks regarding site availability and terrain. It is important for prospective campers to consider these aspects when planning their visit to Main Campground.
The environment of Main Campground is described by one reviewer as "beautiful secluded," suggesting a natural setting that offers privacy and tranquility. Secluded campgrounds can be particularly appealing to those looking to escape crowded areas and immerse themselves in a more natural and peaceful ambiance. However, another reviewer notes that the terrain is "very hilly and hard to find a spot that is level," indicating that campers should be prepared for uneven ground and may need to take extra care when setting up their tents or parking their RVs. This hilly environment might also contribute to the seclusion and scenic beauty of the campground. The roads within the campground are reported to be blacktop, which is a positive aspect for accessibility and managing dust, while the individual campsites are gravel, a common and generally well-draining surface for camping.
In terms of services, the reviews provide limited information. One reviewer explicitly states "electric hookups only," which is a crucial piece of information for RV travelers who rely on electricity for their appliances and comfort. Tent campers would need to be aware that full electrical service at their site is not an option. The presence of a "nice dump station" is also mentioned, which is a significant convenience for RV owners as it allows for proper disposal of waste. Other standard campground services, such as restroom facilities, water access (beyond electrical hookups), or the availability of other amenities, are not mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users would need to seek additional information, possibly by contacting the campground directly, to ascertain the full range of services available.
The features of Main Campground include its secluded nature and the availability of electric hookups. The hilly terrain, while potentially challenging for finding a level campsite, could also contribute to the scenic views and the overall character of the campground. The blacktop roads within the campground enhance accessibility, and the gravel sites are practical for camping setups. The presence of a dump station caters specifically to the needs of RV campers. However, one of the more concerning features highlighted in a review is the issue of locals "reserving" spots for the weekend by paying ahead for the entire week and using camping chairs to mark their territory. This practice allegedly limits the availability of campsites for travelers, which the reviewer found disappointing and felt should be better monitored by the state. This potential issue with site availability, particularly on weekends, is a significant factor that prospective campers, especially those traveling through, should be aware of.
Promotional information is not evident in the provided reviews. To inquire about any special rates, seasonal offers, or policies regarding site reservations and availability, local users searching for "camping near me" should contact Main Campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (319) 400-7770 or +1 319-400-7770. It would be prudent to ask about their reservation system, particularly concerning the practice of long-term reservations by locals and how it might affect weekend availability for other campers. Inquiring about any amenities beyond electric hookups and the dump station, such as water access at individual sites, restroom and shower facilities, or recreational areas, would also be beneficial in planning a trip.
In conclusion, Main Campground near Oxford, Iowa, offers a potentially beautiful and secluded camping experience with the convenience of electric hookups and a dump station. However, the hilly terrain may present challenges in finding a level campsite, and a significant concern has been raised by a reviewer regarding the perceived practice of locals reserving sites long-term, potentially limiting options for travelers, especially on weekends. While the campground might be "great for travelers" in terms of its location and basic amenities, the issue of site availability due to these alleged long-term reservations is a factor that cannot be ignored. Local users considering Main Campground for their "camping near me" needs should weigh the appeal of a secluded environment with electric hookups against the potential challenges of uneven sites and the reported issues with campsite availability. Contacting the campground directly for clarification on reservation policies and a comprehensive list of available amenities is highly recommended before making a booking.

Main Campground Reviews
"Awful lot of free camping chairs around here"The campsite is great for travelers but the locals ruin the experience by "reserving" spots with camping chairs and paying ahead the whole week so they have it for the weekend.. Making travellers have less options. These things should be better monitored but I guess the state is just happy to get a check. Disappointed.
May 22, 2024 · TYLER ANDERSONBeautiful secluded campground! Electric hookups only. It is very hilly and hard to find a spot that is level so be prepared. Roads are blacktop and sites are gravel. Nice dump station.
Aug 09, 2022 · Denny HookWe camped at the park on a beautiful grassy campsite. The restrooms were well maintained. We had an enjoyable stay and we would go back if we travel that way again.
