Sandy Beach Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me," Sandy Beach Campground, located at 3369 Sandy Beach Rd NE, Solon, IA 52333, USA, offers a potentially appealing option for a peaceful outdoor stay. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground is characterized as "nice, small, quite" and boasts friendly staff and convenient access to Lake Macbride for water-based activities. While one review cautions about the beach quality and boat ramp suitability for larger vessels, the overall sentiment is positive, with one camper highly recommending the place.
Environment and Location:
Sandy Beach Campground is situated near Solon, Iowa, placing it in a potentially scenic area, likely in proximity to Lake Macbride, given the reference to Lake Macbride Boat Rentals. One reviewer describes it as a "hidden gem," suggesting a pleasant and perhaps less crowded natural setting. The mention of being "super close to Lake Macbride Boat 🛥 Rentals" indicates that the lake and its recreational opportunities are a significant part of the local environment accessible from the campground.
However, not all environmental aspects receive glowing reviews. One camper noted, "It's not a nice beach," suggesting that while the campground might be named Sandy Beach, the beach itself may not be its strongest feature. Additionally, the same review advises against putting anything larger than a fishing boat in on the ramp due to "a lot of rocks and debris." This implies that while there is water access, it might be more suitable for smaller watercraft.
Despite these caveats, the overall impression from another reviewer is positive, highlighting the beauty of the location and the helpfulness of the grounds crew. The availability of "plenty of firewood" also suggests a setting where campfires are permitted and encouraged, contributing to the outdoor camping ambiance.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the customer feedback, Sandy Beach Campground offers several notable services and amenities:
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: One reviewer specifically mentioned that the "grounds crew are super nice and helpful," which can significantly enhance the camping experience.
- Firewood Availability: The presence of "plenty of firewood" is a convenience for campers wanting to have campfires.
- Hot Showers with Good Pressure: A reviewer enthusiastically noted, "Showers are hot 🔥 and good pressure," which is often a highly valued amenity, especially after outdoor activities.
While the reviews don't provide an exhaustive list of amenities, the mention of these specific services gives a good indication of what campers can expect. The absence of negative comments about other standard campground facilities (like restrooms, though not explicitly reviewed) might imply they are adequate, or simply that these aspects were not the focus of the reviewers.
The proximity to Lake Macbride Boat Rentals can also be considered an indirect amenity, providing easy access to kayaking and pontoon boat rentals, as highlighted by one satisfied camper.
Features and Highlights:
Sandy Beach Campground appears to have several key features that make it appealing to local campers:
- Quiet Atmosphere: Described as "quite," it suggests a peaceful camping environment, which can be a major draw for those looking to escape noise and crowds.
- Proximity to Lake Macbride Activities: Its close location to boat rentals opens up opportunities for enjoying Lake Macbride through kayaking and pontoon boating.
- Friendly Staff: The positive feedback about the grounds crew indicates a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
- Good Quality Showers: Hot showers with good pressure are a significant comfort for campers.
While the beach and boat ramp might have limitations, the overall experience seems to be positive for those seeking a smaller, quieter campground with access to lake activities and essential amenities like good showers and firewood.
The mention of an abrupt change of plans due to events at Maquoketa Caves, while not directly about Sandy Beach Campground, provides context that some campers might be seeking alternative local outdoor destinations, for which Sandy Beach could be a suitable option.
Promotional Information:
There isn't explicit promotional material in the reviews. However, the enthusiastic recommendation ("I highly recommend this place! 🔥 💪🏾 💯 ❤️") from one camper serves as a strong endorsement. The description of it as a "hidden gem" also adds to its appeal for those looking for a less mainstream camping spot.
The implicit promotion comes from the positive mentions of the friendly staff, the availability of firewood, and the quality of the showers, as well as its convenient location relative to Lake Macbride Boat Rentals. For local users considering "camping near me," these aspects, combined with the quiet nature of the campground, could be persuasive.
To get more specific promotional details, such as seasonal rates or any special offers, it would be best to contact Sandy Beach Campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (319) 338-3543 ext. 6300 or the mobile number +1 319-338-3543 ext. 6300.
Objective Summary:
Sandy Beach Campground near Solon, IA, offers a nice, small, and quiet camping experience with friendly and helpful staff. While the beach itself may not be ideal and the boat ramp is best suited for smaller boats, the campground's proximity to Lake Macbride Boat Rentals provides easy access to kayaking and pontoon boating. Campers can also appreciate the availability of firewood and the "hot 🔥 and good pressure" showers. One reviewer highly recommends this "hidden gem." For local users looking for a peaceful "camping near me" option with good basic amenities and access to lake activities, Sandy Beach Campground appears to be a worthwhile consideration. It seems particularly suited for those who prioritize a quieter setting and convenient access to water recreation via rentals.

Sandy Beach Campground Reviews
Nice, small, quite campground. It's not a nice beach. And I wouldn't advise putting anything bigger than a fishing boat in on the ramp. A lot of rocks and debris.
Jun 13, 2024 · Scott NilesWe had to make an abrupt change due to the shootings at Maquoketa Caves. 😔 You can't go anywhere nowadays....Needless to say... Great place and hidden gem. Grounds crew are super nice and helpful. Plenty of firewood. More importantly, it's super close to Lake Macbride Boat 🛥 Rentals. We went kayaking and rented a pontoon both days.Showers are hot 🔥 and good pressure.I highly recommend this place! 🔥 💪🏾 💯 ❤️
Jul 27, 2022 · Momster sikoGreat campground near the lake!Pros: the camping spots are huge and pretty level!! Had plenty of room to park our 32ft camper and big ol truck. Gravel spot that seems much wider and longer than ehat you'd normally see at an average campground. The campground is very clean and well maintained. The park is in good shape and safe for kids. Lots of shade, too!Cons: Most of the spots do not have a water hookup, they only have a few spots that are full hookup. Most people don't mind that, but wanted to mention. The bathroom/showers were in decent shape but very dirty compared to Sugar Bottom campground. They look about the same but I noticed these hadn't been cleaned in awhile. But atleast the showers are hot and stalls are stocked with TP!We had a great time and will be back!
Aug 06, 2022 · Jessie SExcellent spread out campsites with plenty of shade some with sun. Showers & restrooms kept very clean. Bit of a misnomer because the beach is down by the boat ramp a short walk away.
