Lake MacBride North Modern Campground Introduce
For local residents in Iowa seeking "camping near me" with access to a lake and some modern conveniences, Lake MacBride North Modern Campground, located in Solon, IA 52333, USA, presents an option within the Lake MacBride State Park area. You can reach the campground at (319) 624-2200 or +1 319-624-2200 for reservations and inquiries. Lake MacBride State Park is a popular recreational area known for its lake, trails, and opportunities for outdoor activities, making the campground a potentially attractive base for exploring the park.
However, it's important to note that the term "Modern" in the campground's name might be somewhat misleading based on recent visitor feedback. One reviewer explicitly states, "The term Modern is a bit deceiving. This campground seems older. The campground is not remote nor modern." This suggests that while the campground offers certain amenities that might be considered modern compared to primitive camping, it might not have the newer facilities or overall feel that the name could imply. Local users should be aware of this potential discrepancy when considering this location for their "camping near me" needs.
Despite the reservations about its modernity, Lake MacBride North Modern Campground does offer some appealing features. One significant convenience mentioned is the presence of a "flushable shower house," which is a definite upgrade from pit toilets and can greatly enhance the comfort of a camping trip, especially for longer stays or for those who prefer more traditional bathroom facilities. This central bathroom/shower facility is noted to be located in the middle of the campground, making it reasonably accessible from most campsites.
In terms of campsite infrastructure, it is mentioned that "Some sites are full hook up," which is a significant advantage for RV campers. Full hookups typically include connections for electricity, water, and sewer, allowing for a more self-contained and comfortable RV experience. However, it's also noted that the reviewer "Did not see any concrete pads," indicating that the parking surfaces for RVs and potentially tent pads are likely gravel or grass. The campsites are described as "pretty level," which is a positive aspect for ease of setup and comfort during your stay.
The internal roads of the campground are asphalt and are described as single roads with "a very tight turn around at each end." This is a crucial piece of information for RV owners, particularly those with larger units. The reviewer advises, "If You have a bigger unit, good luck turning around at the end of the road." This suggests that navigating the campground, especially during arrival and departure, might be challenging for larger RVs and careful maneuvering will be necessary. Campers with larger rigs should perhaps inquire specifically about site access and turnaround space when making reservations.
While the campground itself does not offer a camp store on-site, the town is conveniently located about five miles away. This means that campers can easily access supplies, groceries, and other necessities with a short drive. However, it also implies that forgetting essential items will require a trip into town, so packing thoroughly is advisable.
In terms of the environment and maintenance, one visitor who stayed midweek for a couple of nights reported a quiet atmosphere among the other campers. They also noted that park rangers were present and actively engaged in maintaining the campground, including cleaning fire pits and mowing the grass. The visible presence of park staff and their attention to upkeep are positive indicators of campground management and the overall camping experience.
Another positive aspect highlighted in a review is the demeanor of the park rangers, who were described as "super chill and polite," even when dealing with potentially disruptive behavior from other visitors (in this case, a group of college students). This suggests that the park staff are professional and approachable, contributing to a positive overall environment for campers.
Given that the campground is part of Lake MacBride State Park, visitors likely have access to the park's broader recreational opportunities. Lake MacBride itself is a significant feature, potentially offering activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming (though specific information about access and regulations for these activities at the campground is not provided in the reviews). The park is also likely to have hiking trails and other natural attractions to explore, making the campground a convenient base for outdoor adventures.
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Solon, Iowa area, Lake MacBride North Modern Campground offers a location within a popular state park with lake access. It provides some modern amenities, including full hookup sites and a flushable shower house. However, potential visitors should be aware that the "Modern" designation might not fully align with expectations of a newer campground, and navigating with larger RVs could be challenging due to tight turnarounds. The quiet midweek atmosphere and the positive interactions with park rangers are noted as benefits. The proximity to the town of Solon for supplies is also convenient. To get a clearer picture of the campsite layout, specific amenities at each site, and any park regulations or fees, contacting the campground directly is recommended.
In conclusion, Lake MacBride North Modern Campground offers a camping option near Solon, Iowa, within the scenic Lake MacBride State Park. While the term "Modern" might be an overstatement for the campground's age and facilities, it does provide essential amenities like full hookups on some sites and a flushable shower house. The lakeside location and access to state park activities are significant draws. However, RV owners with larger units should be cautious of the tight road layouts, and all visitors should be prepared for the possibility of an older campground feel. The quiet midweek experience and helpful park rangers are positive aspects to consider for your next "camping near me" getaway in Iowa.

Lake MacBride North Modern Campground Reviews
The term Modern is a bit deceiving. This campground seems older. The campground is not remote nor modern. Is it considered modern because of a flushable shower house ? Some sites are full hook up .I Did not see any concrete pads. Sites are pretty level. The roads are asphalt and single roads with a very tight turn around at each end. IfYou have a bigger unit, good luck turning around at the end of the road. There is One bathroom/ shower facility centrally located in the middle. Stayed here mid week for a couple of nights, other campers were quiet. Park rangers did drive around and clean fire pits, mow the grass. There is no camp store on site. Town is about five miles away.

Jun 26, 2024 · JenkstoI remember going here as a kid.and being able to come back after so long and seeing a place that has not changed much is very nice. They have improved in a great way as to having full hook up spots and showers making sure they stay dry for every use is awesome. It's also nice that they have spots that is on a first come basis is very nice. Very nice campground
Oct 17, 2023 · Jeremy BrinkerGreat campground with clean restrooms and lots of trails and things to do with kids. Some of the sites (full hookups) are very close together but others have a bit more space in between. No firewood for sale in the campground so be sure to pick some up (within rega) on the way in.We kayaked and sailed and swam at the beach as well as enduring some complaints from the kids about death matches.
