Lake Macbride Campgrounds Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me," Lake Macbride Campgrounds, located in Solon, IA 52333, USA, presents a diverse range of camping experiences and recreational opportunities. Based on the available customer reviews, Lake Macbride offers something for various preferences, from family-oriented activities to a more rustic, primitive setting. One reviewer enthusiastically calls it a "great campground with lots of things to do for the family," while another highlights the "nice little primitive Campground" aspect, indicating a multifaceted destination.
Environment and Location:
Lake Macbride itself is a central feature of the environment, offering opportunities for lakeside activities. One review mentions a "beach with swimming nearby," suggesting that water-based recreation is a significant draw. The presence of "cliffs" and a "spillway" indicates interesting geological and hydrological features within the area, likely providing scenic views and exploration opportunities. The mention of "woods" and "lots of trails" points to a natural landscape conducive to hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
One camper's nighttime exploration revealed a unique "plant of some kind with lots of little roots on the bottom," found at the edge of the water, highlighting the natural curiosity the area can inspire. This suggests a diverse local ecology worth exploring. However, another review of the "nice little primitive Campground" notes that it "is on the side of a hill and it's hard to find a level spot to set up camp" and mentions "a lot of big old trees that have a lot of dead limbs" posing a potential hazard during windy conditions. This suggests that while parts of Lake Macbride Campgrounds offer natural beauty, the primitive section might have some topographical challenges and potential natural risks to be aware of.
The proximity to Solon is also a notable environmental aspect, with one reviewer mentioning it as a "great place to go" if you want to "run to town for some shopping or dinner," indicating a blend of natural retreat with the convenience of nearby urban amenities.
Services and Amenities:
The services and amenities at Lake Macbride Campgrounds appear to vary depending on the specific camping area. For the more developed areas, one review notes that "campsites are great even for big campers," implying spacious sites that can accommodate larger recreational vehicles. The overall park is described as "clean," which suggests good maintenance of common areas.
Regarding the "nice little primitive Campground," the reviews are less specific about formal amenities. Primitive campgrounds typically offer minimal services, focusing on a more natural experience. The mention of the hilly terrain and potential falling limbs suggests fewer maintained features compared to developed campgrounds. However, its appeal lies in its natural setting.
The first review mentions "lots of things to do for the family," which could imply amenities or activities geared towards families, although these are not specified. The proximity to a swimming beach is a significant amenity for those looking to cool off during warmer months.
It's important to differentiate between the experiences offered in different parts of Lake Macbride Campgrounds, as one seems geared towards more conventional camping with potentially more amenities, while the "primitive Campground" offers a more rustic experience with fewer facilities and some natural challenges.
Features and Highlights:
Lake Macbride Campgrounds boasts several appealing features:
- Family-Friendly Activities: The first review highlights the availability of "lots of things to do for the family," suggesting a welcoming environment for campers of all ages.
- Spacious Campsites: Accommodation for "big campers" indicates that at least some sections of the campground can handle larger RVs.
- Recreational Variety: The presence of trails, fishing opportunities, cliffs, and a spillway offers diverse outdoor activities.
- Swimming Beach Nearby: Access to a beach enhances the appeal, especially during the summer.
- Proximity to Town: The convenience of nearby Solon allows for easy access to shopping and dining.
- Primitive Camping Option: For those seeking a more rugged experience, a "nice little primitive Campground" is available, albeit with its own set of environmental considerations.
- Natural Exploration: As evidenced by the discovery of the unique aquatic plant, the area offers opportunities for natural observation and exploration.
The contrast between the positive aspects of the main campground and the challenges noted in the primitive section highlights the importance of choosing the right area within Lake Macbride Campgrounds based on individual preferences and camping styles.
Promotional Information:
While there is no explicit promotional material, the positive reviews serve as recommendations. The first review, in particular, acts as a strong endorsement for families and those with larger camping setups, emphasizing the variety of activities and the cleanliness of the park. The mention of Solon as a convenient nearby town adds to the appeal for those who like to have access to urban amenities.
The review of the primitive campground, while noting its challenges (hilly terrain, potential falling limbs), still refers to it as a "nice little" option, suggesting that its natural charm outweighs these drawbacks for those seeking a more secluded experience. The discovery of the interesting plant also subtly promotes the area's natural intrigue.
For local users looking for "camping near me," Lake Macbride Campgrounds appears to be a destination with multiple facets. Families might be drawn to the developed areas with more amenities and activities, while those seeking a quieter, more rustic experience might opt for the primitive section, keeping in mind the uneven terrain and potential hazards from old trees.
To get specific information about reservations, fees, and the availability of different types of campsites (developed vs. primitive), it would be best to contact the relevant authorities managing Lake Macbride Campgrounds directly.

Lake Macbride Campgrounds Reviews
Lake McBride is a great campground with lots of things to do for the family. Campsites are great even for big campers. There are lots of trails, fishing, cliffs, spillway and woods. Beach with swimming is near by. The park is clean and if you want to run to town for some shopping or dinner Solon is a great place to go.What the heck is this thing? I was out walking at night and saw this on the edge of the water. Looked like a dead animal or crawfish but it’s a plant of some kind with lots of little roots on the bottom. It’s a tube (unlike some flowers that are bulbs). Great place to explore!
Apr 20, 2021 · Peter ShawNice little primitive Campground. But it's on the side of a hill and it's hard to find a level spot to set up camp. It has a lot of big old trees that have a lot of dead limbs. That fall when the wind blows.
Jul 19, 2023 · Gary LeonardI think it's a beautiful park. The spaces are ok but some are hard to navigate and the turn around is very tight. The road and lake traffic is really intrusive though. So loud. Don't expect to just enjoy nature or peace and quiet.
Aug 15, 2021 · Sarah DavidsonOverall good with functioning utities, bathrooms and showers. 3 stars due to it not being very tent friendly and the sites are very close together.
