Riverstone Campground Introduce
When searching for "camping near me" in the Townsend, Tennessee area, Riverstone Campground, located at 8277 E Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Townsend, TN 37882, USA, offers a riverside setting that may appeal to some campers. With direct contact phone numbers available at (865) 448-6681 and +1 865-448-6681, potential guests can inquire about specific site details and availability. However, recent reviews present a mixed picture of the campground, highlighting both its natural beauty and areas needing improvement.
The environment of Riverstone Campground is notably defined by its proximity to a river. One reviewer specifically mentioned that "the river was beautiful" and the sound of the "water flowing down was very very loud but that was okay with us." This suggests a potentially scenic location with the natural ambiance of a flowing river, which could be appealing to those who enjoy the sounds of nature. However, the loudness of the water might be a consideration for campers seeking a quieter environment, particularly in the tenting area. Another positive environmental aspect mentioned was "plenty of room" at an RV site (#18) and the presence of a "waterfall" sound, contributing to a "very quiet, peaceful and very enjoyable" experience for some RV campers. Conversely, a tent camper described the "tenting" area as "shoved in the back corner, very crowded close spots if you are looking for space between this wouldn’t be the spot for you." This indicates that the environment for tent campers might be less spacious and potentially less desirable for those seeking privacy. The presence of people seemingly "living in the tent area" was also noted as "a little unsettling" by one guest. Overall, the environment seems to offer natural beauty with the river, but the specific experience can vary significantly between RV and tent sites, with potential issues regarding space and the nature of other campers in the tenting area.
When considering "camping near me," the services and features of a campground are crucial for a comfortable stay. Reviews of Riverstone Campground highlight several areas of concern regarding maintenance and amenities. One tent camper reported that "the fire rings were completely filled with thick wet mud and ashes to the brim," requiring them to clean it out themselves. This suggests a lack of regular maintenance on the campsites. The same reviewer also found the "bathrooms were not clean," indicating a potential issue with hygiene. Additionally, they mentioned being quoted the RV price for a tent site, even without using power, which they found unaccommodating compared to other campgrounds. Another significant issue raised by multiple reviewers was the poor signage, specifically that "there is no lights on the sign to see at night trying to find the place" and "the signage is not lite up at night, so it was very difficult to find the driveway at night" in the dark. This poses a safety and convenience concern for late arrivals. Regarding amenities, "picnic tables were falling apart" and "very very old, frankly should be replaced," indicating a lack of upkeep on these basic campsite features. On a positive note, one RV camper mentioned that their site (#18) had "plenty of room," suggesting that at least some RV sites are adequately sized. The office staff was also commended by one reviewer as "very very nice," indicating good customer service at the point of contact. However, the overall lack of maintenance and the issues with pricing for tent campers raise concerns about the general quality of services and features at Riverstone Campground.
The features of Riverstone Campground are somewhat mixed based on the recent reviews. The presence of a river is a key natural feature, offering potential scenic value and the sound of flowing water. Some RV sites, like #18, appear to offer ample space. The campground is accessible by phone for inquiries and reservations. However, the lack of maintenance is a significant concern, as evidenced by the dirty fire rings, unclean bathrooms, and dilapidated picnic tables. The poor or unlit signage makes finding the campground at night difficult. The tenting area is described as crowded with close spots, which might deter those seeking more space and privacy. The pricing policy for tent campers, being charged the RV rate despite not needing hookups, is also a notable negative feature. While the office staff is friendly, this positive aspect seems overshadowed by the issues with the physical condition and policies of the campground. Potential features that might be expected at a campground, such as well-maintained common areas, clean facilities, and clear signage, appear to be lacking at Riverstone Campground based on recent feedback. The loud river might be considered a feature by some but a drawback by others seeking a quiet camping experience.
Currently, no promotional information is available for Riverstone Campground based on the provided reviews. Given the concerns raised about maintenance and pricing, it is especially important for potential local users searching for "camping near me" to inquire about current rates and any potential discounts directly by calling (865) 448-6681 or +1 865-448-6681. It would also be prudent to ask about the condition of the campsites, fire rings, picnic tables, and bathrooms before making a reservation, to ensure that the current state aligns with expectations. Inquiring about any ongoing efforts to address the maintenance issues highlighted in the reviews might also be beneficial. Without any advertised promotions, potential campers should focus on obtaining accurate information about the current condition and pricing to determine if Riverstone Campground offers a suitable "camping near me" experience despite the reported shortcomings.
The reviews from real customers paint a somewhat disappointing picture of Riverstone Campground for those seeking "camping near me." While the riverside location and the friendliness of the office staff are positive aspects, the significant issues with maintenance (dirty fire rings and bathrooms, falling apart picnic tables), poor signage at night, and the unaccommodating pricing for tent campers are major drawbacks. The crowded tenting area and the unsettling presence of long-term residents in that area are also concerning. One RV camper had a more positive experience regarding their specific site and the peacefulness, but still noted the need for upgrades to the picnic tables and signage. The strong negative feedback from the tent camper, coupled with the limitations noted by the RV camper, suggests that Riverstone Campground may not be the best option for all types of campers seeking "camping near me" unless significant improvements have been made since these reviews were posted. The fact that one reviewer sadly understood why the campground was empty when others were full speaks volumes about the overall experience.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Townsend, TN, Riverstone Campground offers a riverside location and friendly office staff. However, potential campers should be aware of significant concerns raised in recent reviews, including poor maintenance of campsites and facilities, inadequate signage at night, and potentially crowded and unsettling conditions in the tenting area. Tent campers also reported being charged the RV rate without access to hookups. While some RV sites may be spacious and peaceful, the overall feedback suggests that Riverstone Campground may need to address several key areas to provide a satisfactory "camping near me" experience. It is strongly recommended that prospective guests contact the campground directly at (865) 448-6681 or +1 865-448-6681 to inquire about the current conditions, pricing policies, and any recent improvements before making a reservation.

Riverstone Campground Reviews
We are road tripping and staying somewhere new every night, we have met several nice people at campgrounds and this one was unfortunately the worst. The place was completely empty (except for some people that seem to be living in the tent area which was a little unsettling but the guy was nice) and we were tenting. Instead of accommodating us they still wanted to charge us the RV price to stay in our own tent in an RV spot, even if we weren’t using power. Other campgrounds that are completely vacant have been more than welcoming and accommodating. The fire rings were completely filled with thick wet mud and ashes to the brim, we had to clean our own out which was pounds and pounds of that stuff to even start a fire. The tenting is shoved in the back corner, very crowded close spots if you are looking for space between this wouldn’t be the spot for you. The campground has done zero maintenance it seems on its campsites, and the bathrooms were not clean. Just an overall disappointing experience. We sadly see why no one was staying there when all the other campgrounds were full. There is no lights on the sign to see at night trying to find the place. Picnic tables were falling apart. The river was beautiful though I must say. The water flowing down was very very loud but that was okay with us, if you are looking for quiet I wouldn’t suggest that spot for tenting.Overall will not return. The owner or manager should put forth more care for their establishment.
Dec 30, 2024 · Cassie RoseLet me start by saying, the office staff was very very nice! We have a 26 foot 5th wheel. My husband and I stayed at site#18. It was very nice to hear the waterfall, the water was crystal clear, site had plenty of room. It was very quiet, peaceful and very enjoyable. However, a few opportunities for the owner, the picnic tables are very very old, frankly should be replaced. We didn't even use ours as we were afraid they would break or get splinters. The other big issue was the signage is not lite up at night, so it was very difficult to find the driveway at night. It's very dark!We would definitely return but it would be nice to see a bit more upgrades.
Oct 18, 2024 · Katherine OrangeMiss Christine is absolutely amazing and was more than gracious. Great location on the river at the base of the entrance to national park.
Mar 07, 2025 · Sean O'TooleI would like to start off by saying the camp manager was very nice and that the problems are not her fault. I have stayed here in the past and it has continued to go down hill each stay. This time we stayed in what is the best spot in the camp and it was horrible. It was torn up with a track hoe which was still setting there. Camp spot was very dirty and uneven, hard to walk on. People walking through the camp spot all the time. No cable, Wi-Fi spotty at best and the shower/bathroom is very old, and nasty. Would not recommend staying here.
Sep 23, 2024 · Rod RamseyShowed up here for Labor Day weekend with 3 other families to tent camp for my birthday. it was so grungy feeling we couldn’t even set up camp and decided to leave. It is not what you expect if you’re planning to be in a typical camping setting. You’re basically on top of eachother tent next to tent in this one small square area. Also think they have multiple people living there in tents as well which wasn’t a comfortable feeling.. esp if you have young children. Do not recommend.
