Riverview Campsites Introduce
Seeking a peaceful "camping near me" experience immersed in nature, with stunning river views and exceptional opportunities for stargazing and wildlife viewing? Riverview Campsites, located at 2 Riverview Road, Benezette, PA 15821, USA, offers a unique retreat in the heart of Pennsylvania's elk country. Based on recent reviews, this campground provides a tranquil environment and access to remarkable natural attractions, although potential visitors should be aware of certain aspects regarding amenities and connectivity. Let's explore what Riverview Campsites has to offer local users looking for a genuine outdoor escape.
Embrace the Scenic and Quiet Environment Along the River:
Riverview Campsites lives up to its name, offering a "view of the river" that guests appreciate, particularly for its "cooling effect at night," even during humid evenings. The campground is described as "Quiet, Peaceful," making it an ideal destination for those seeking a respite from the noise and bustle of everyday life. The location in Benezette, Pennsylvania, is significant as it's renowned for its elk population and natural beauty. The surrounding area likely features picturesque landscapes, with the river serving as a focal point for the campground's ambiance. The mention of tent camping suggests that the environment caters to a more traditional outdoor experience, allowing visitors to connect directly with nature.
Imagine setting up your tent with the soothing sounds of the river nearby and waking up to a scenic view. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere encourages relaxation and a deeper immersion in the natural surroundings. The lack of light pollution in this area likely contributes to the exceptional stargazing opportunities mentioned by a satisfied guest, who called it a "Stargazing capital!" This makes Riverview Campsites a potentially magical destination for astronomy enthusiasts.
Basic Services with Noteworthy Considerations:
While the natural setting and tranquility are highlights, the reviews also provide important insights into the campground's services and amenities that local users should be aware of:
- Porta Potties and Main Bathhouse: While one guest "had no issue with the placement of porta potties across the driveway from our campsite," they noted that the "main bathhouse was a bit of a walk without a landscaped path to get to." This suggests that accessibility to the main facilities might be challenging, as the guest "ended up riding up a very rocky trail to take a shower and use the facilities." This is a crucial point for those with mobility concerns or those preferring well-maintained pathways.
- Non-Potable Bathroom Water: A significant piece of information is that the "bathroom water was not potable." This means that water from the sinks and showers should not be consumed. While one camper who boils their water for cooking didn't see this as a major issue, it's a critical safety consideration for all visitors.
- Drinking Water Access: Potable "drinking water was only available from a hand pump further up the property from the bathhouse." This implies that campers need to be prepared to travel a distance to access safe drinking water and plan accordingly for storage and transportation back to their campsites.
These points highlight the importance of being self-sufficient and well-prepared when camping at Riverview Campsites. While the natural beauty is a draw, the limited and somewhat inconvenient access to basic amenities like potable water and easily accessible restrooms should be factored into your planning.
Unique Features and Local Attractions:
Riverview Campsites offers some unique features and is ideally located for exploring the natural attractions of the Benezette area:
- Proximity to Elk Viewing: A major draw for this location is its proximity to "Winslow Hill and the Elk Visitor Center." One guest specifically stated that "Early morning and evening visits to Winslow Hill and the Elk Visitor Center is the reason we stayed and we'll return!" This indicates that Riverview Campsites is an excellent basecamp for those hoping to observe Pennsylvania's famous elk herd.
- Opportunity for Side-by-Side Rides: One guest recounted a positive experience of a "ride in a Polaris Side by Side" with a friend of the campground owner, calling it a "highlight" of their stay. While this might not be a standard offering for all guests, it suggests potential for guided off-road adventures in the area.
- No Cell Service: For some, the "No Cell service" at Riverview Campsites is a significant advantage, allowing for a true disconnect from technology and a deeper immersion in nature. One reviewer enthusiastically stated, "No Cell service is a fantastic thing. Embrace it! don't complain about it!" However, this is an important consideration for those who rely on mobile communication for safety or convenience.
- Stargazing Capital: As mentioned earlier, the lack of light pollution makes this area ideal for stargazing, offering breathtaking views of the night sky.
The combination of elk viewing opportunities, potential for local adventures like side-by-side rides, and the chance to disconnect in a dark-sky location makes Riverview Campsites a unique destination for nature enthusiasts.
Promotional Information and Planning Your Visit:
No specific promotional information or special offers are mentioned in the provided reviews. To inquire about current rates, availability, and any potential discounts for local users, it is recommended to contact Riverview Campsites directly at (814) 594-6232 or +1 814-594-6232. When planning your visit, consider the following:
- Self-Sufficiency: Be prepared to bring your own potable water or a reliable water purification method due to the non-potable bathroom water and the location of the drinking water pump.
- Navigation and Footwear: Be aware that pathways to facilities might be unpaved and potentially rocky, so appropriate footwear is essential.
- Connectivity: Embrace the lack of cell service or plan accordingly if you need to stay connected. Consider bringing a satellite communication device if necessary for emergencies.
- Elk Viewing Gear: If you plan to visit Winslow Hill or the Elk Visitor Center, bring binoculars or a spotting scope for better viewing. Check the best times for elk activity (dawn and dusk).
- Weather Preparedness: Benezette, PA, can experience varying weather conditions, so pack layers and be prepared for both warm and cool temperatures, as well as potential rain.
- Campground Rules: Inquire about any specific rules or regulations at Riverview Campsites to ensure a smooth and respectful stay.
Riverview Campsites offers a unique "camping near me" experience for local users seeking a tranquil escape in Pennsylvania's elk country. The stunning river views, exceptional stargazing, and proximity to elk viewing opportunities are significant draws. However, it's crucial to be aware of the limited amenities, particularly regarding potable water and accessibility to the main bathhouse, and the lack of cell service. By being well-prepared and embracing the opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in nature, you can enjoy the quiet beauty and natural wonders that Riverview Campsites has to offer.

Riverview Campsites Reviews
Shared a humid evening of tent camping with 4 other motorcyclists and two teens. Thankful for the view of the river as well as the cooling effect at night.Whereas I had no issue with the placement of porta potties across the driveway from our campsite, the main bathhouse was a bit of a walk without a landscaped path to get to. I ended up riding up a very rocky trail to take a shower and use the facilities.Only after I returned to camp did I learn that the bathroom water was not potable. Considering I boil my water for breakfast and coffee, I didn't see that as a problem. But, drinking water was only available from a hand pump further up the property from the bathhouse.I totally enjoyed a ride in a Polaris Side by Side with one of my buddies, having accepted the offer from Carmen, a long time friend of the campground owner. Definitely a highlight of our stay at Riverside Campsites!

Oct 25, 2024 · Rich PWe absolutely love this campground and are planning a 3rd trip in August! You couldn't ask for a better campground owner (Andy) and managers (Nate and Rachel), as well as all of the hosts we've encountered over our stays. Everyone is always so polite, friendly and willing to help when needed. We were there last week during tropical storm Debby, and although we were tent camping and needed to move twice (thanks Mother Nature), everyone was so kind and helpful. It made for some great memories!!There is no Wifi throughout the campground, but there is enough of a signal at the red barn/bath house if you need to make a call, check emails, ect. So if you're needing constant access, you may want to bring you're own service. The bathhouse is not your typical bathhouse, but very clean and the water pressure is great! The porta-pottys are kept clean and stocked. The campground store has the necessities, but is only open limited hours, so it's best to make sure you bring what you need. We did find a Family Dollar in Weedville about 15-20min from the campground and there is a Walmart in St. Mary's which is about 45min away. There is wild life that comes into the campground. We saw a young elk and heard some cows calling, but the youngin spooked so we didn't get a good look at it. The location is very convenient though to go out and look for the Elk. The river is convenient if you like to fish and to cool down for the kids. You can go tubing right there and not have to worry about how you're getting back to camp.I would highly recommend this campground to anyone looking to get away, unplug, and see some gorgeous animals!
