Rock Creek Campground Introduce
For local users in Oregon searching for "camping near me" along the coast near Florence, Rock Creek Campground, located at 93825 US-101, Florence, OR 97439, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While some visitors have enjoyed the secluded sites and proximity to natural attractions, others have reported significant negative experiences. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services (as inferred), and features of Rock Creek Campground, incorporating both positive and negative feedback to help you make an informed decision.
Environment: Secluded Sites Near a Relaxing Stream and the Coast
One positive aspect of Rock Creek Campground's environment, highlighted by a satisfied camper, is the secluded nature of the campsites. This suggests that the layout of the campground offers a degree of privacy between sites, allowing for a more intimate and peaceful experience in nature. The reviewer also noted that "most of the sites are right next to a stream which is a relaxing sound to fall asleep to." This indicates that the presence of Rock Creek adjacent to many campsites is a significant environmental feature, providing a soothing auditory backdrop and potentially attracting local wildlife. The proximity to a natural water source can enhance the overall ambiance of the campground.
Furthermore, the campground's location is described as being "in close proximity to Cape Perpetua," a renowned scenic area along the Oregon coast known for its dramatic cliffs, tide pools, and stunning ocean vistas. This makes Rock Creek Campground a potentially convenient base for exploring the natural beauty and photographic opportunities offered by Cape Perpetua, especially for activities like "sunset photography" as mentioned by the reviewer.
However, a starkly contrasting review paints a negative picture of the campground's environment, alleging "trash all over the place." This suggests a significant issue with cleanliness, which would detract considerably from the natural appeal and overall camping experience. This discrepancy in environmental descriptions indicates a potential inconsistency in the upkeep and maintenance of the campground.
The mention of "no running water" is a crucial piece of information about the campground's facilities. This implies a more rustic camping experience where campers need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and washing. While the lack of running water might be acceptable for some, it is an essential consideration for planning purposes.
Despite the lack of running water, the positive reviewer noted that "the vault toilet was the cleanest I've ever seen." This suggests that at least one aspect of the sanitary facilities was well-maintained, which is a positive point to consider alongside the negative report of trash.
Services and Amenities: Limited with Potential Management Issues
Based on the user reviews, the services and amenities at Rock Creek Campground appear to be quite basic, with potential issues regarding management and site allocation:
- Campsites: The primary service is the provision of campsites, described as "secluded" and often located next to a stream. The type and size of the sites, as well as whether they accommodate tents or RVs, are not specified.
- Vault Toilet: A vault toilet is available, and at least one reviewer found it to be exceptionally clean. This is the only sanitary facility explicitly mentioned. The absence of running water implies there are likely no flush toilets or showers.
- Lack of Running Water: This is a significant limitation that campers must be prepared for. It affects access to drinking water and hygiene.
- Potential Management Issues: One reviewer reported a severe issue with their reservation, stating that the "host gave our camping spot to someone else before we had gotten there, even though we payed for it." They also alleged "no refund" and described the host as possibly "intoxicated." These are serious accusations that raise significant concerns about the reliability and professionalism of the campground management.
- Cleanliness Concerns: The contradictory report of "trash all over the place" from one reviewer contrasts sharply with the positive comment about the clean vault toilet, suggesting inconsistency in campground maintenance or potentially isolated incidents.
The stark difference in the experiences reported highlights the potential for variability in the services and management of Rock Creek Campground. While some may find the secluded, stream-side sites appealing, the potential for mismanagement and cleanliness issues cannot be ignored.
Features: Seclusion, Stream-Side Location, Proximity to Cape Perpetua, but Potential Drawbacks
Rock Creek Campground offers a mix of potentially attractive features alongside significant potential drawbacks:
- Secluded Campsites: The privacy offered by the campsites is a notable positive for those seeking a more isolated camping experience.
- Stream-Side Location: Many sites benefit from the soothing sounds and proximity of Rock Creek.
- Proximity to Cape Perpetua: The campground's location near a major coastal attraction provides convenience for exploring the scenic beauty of the area.
- Clean Vault Toilet (at least at one point): This suggests some attention to hygiene in at least one aspect of the facilities.
However, the negative review raises serious concerns that could outweigh these positives for many campers:
- Potential for Mismanagement: The alleged issue with reservation handling and the host's behavior are significant red flags.
- Cleanliness Issues: The report of trash throughout the campground is a major deterrent.
- Lack of Running Water: This limits the convenience and comfort of the camping experience.
- Inconsistency in Experiences: The vastly different reviews suggest that the quality of stay may be unpredictable.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: A Cautious Consideration for Coastal Camping
For local users in the Florence, Oregon area searching for "camping near me" with an interest in secluded sites near a stream and proximity to Cape Perpetua, Rock Creek Campground might initially seem appealing. The positive review highlights these attractive features. However, the extremely negative review detailing significant issues with reservation handling, host behavior, and cleanliness cannot be disregarded.
Given the conflicting feedback, local campers should exercise caution and consider the potential risks before choosing Rock Creek Campground. If you are considering a stay here, it would be prudent to:
- Contact Directly: Call (541) 547-3679 or +1 541-547-3679 to inquire about the current conditions of the campground, reservation policies, and the availability of specific types of sites. You might also want to ask about the water situation and any recent maintenance or management changes.
- Inquire About Recent Conditions: If possible, try to find more recent reviews or information from other sources to get a broader picture of the current state of the campground.
- Be Prepared for Rustic Camping: The lack of running water means you will need to bring your own supply for all needs.
- Consider Alternatives: Explore other campgrounds in the Florence and Cape Perpetua area to compare amenities, reviews, and reservation policies. Given the serious allegations in one review, having backup options might be wise.
While the idea of secluded, stream-side camping near the beautiful Oregon coast is enticing, the significant negative feedback regarding management and cleanliness raises serious concerns about the reliability and quality of Rock Creek Campground. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the potential benefits against the reported drawbacks and proceed with caution, perhaps seeking more up-to-date information before making a reservation. The convenience to Cape Perpetua is a plus, but a pleasant camping experience requires more than just a good location.

Rock Creek Campground Reviews
We had a lovely night stay here on a drive up the coast. The sites are secluded, and most of the sites are right next to a stream which is a relaxing sound to fall asleep to. There isn't running water, but the vault toilet was the cleanest I've ever seen. Also, in close proximity to Cape Perpetua, which made it convenient for sunset photography. Absolutely hope to stay here again!
Jun 08, 2024 · Stephanie BransonThe worst experience I have ever had with a campground. Reserved a 3 night stay and got to our camping spot only to realize the host gave our camping spot to someone else before we had gotten there. Even though we payed for it. No refund and the host seemed to be intoxicated, and it was disgusting to see trash all over the place. Do not waste your money on this campsite unless you want ripped off!!
Aug 05, 2024 · Lana PruittWow! I just had to change my review. We have driven through this campground. Looking to see if they had any available spots. We have stayed there a total of 2 nights. There is a 14 day limit in the forest system. We have stayed a total of 10 nights in the entire forest system. We recently moved back home to Oregon. We have spent a lot of time enjoying nature with kids and grandkids. The park manager was so rude, she assumed we were homeless. Said we would be given a ticket and told to move along. She would not let is explain or speak. She even said this was not an alternative to affordable housing. We will not be going there again.
Aug 07, 2022 · Jill MasonVery nice campground near a nice creek and 0.5 mi to the ocean. Quiet as well. Enjoy!
Jul 17, 2024 · Eric OstrowskiWorst Camp host ever… I shouldn’t have ignored the previous reviews. I have never been treated the way the camp host treated me. She was passive aggressive and projecting her previous experiences on us... seems like she does this to most guests. My group was more than willing to obey the camp rules.. that continued to change and differed from the rules posted. I guess children giggling and chopping wood are not aloud while camping now. We gave her no trouble and yet she continued to try and escalate the situation. We left a day early do to the harassment from the camp host. The host shouldn’t be working with the public.
