Sutton Campground Introduce
For local users in Oregon searching for "camping near me," Sutton Campground, located at 4840 Vist Rd in Florence, offers a picturesque and nature-filled camping experience along the Oregon coast. Based on visitor reviews, this campground is characterized by its lush greenery, abundant trees, and access to beautiful trails, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a tranquil retreat in a natural setting. While it's important to note a few specifics regarding amenities and location, Sutton Campground appears to be a well-regarded option for camping enthusiasts.
The environment of Sutton Campground is consistently praised for its beauty and natural charm. Reviewers describe it as a "great spot" with "nice and green" campsites and "lots of trees," creating a shaded and pleasant atmosphere. One visitor noted that the campground was "very beautiful, nestled among many trees," which also provided a sense of privacy by obscuring views of neighboring campsites in some areas. This wooded setting contributes to a serene and immersive camping experience, allowing visitors to feel connected to nature.
Sutton Campground offers a range of camping options to suit different needs, including both electric and non-electric campsites. This flexibility is a significant advantage for RV owners who require electrical hookups, as well as for tent campers who prefer a more rustic experience. However, it's important to be aware that some campsites are "quite close," meaning the proximity of neighbors could potentially impact the overall camping trip experience. Choosing a site carefully or during less crowded times might mitigate this issue.
While Sutton Campground boasts a beautiful natural environment, it's crucial to note that there is "no direct beach access" from the campground itself. This is an important consideration for those whose primary goal is immediate access to the Oregon coast. However, the Florence area is known for its stunning beaches, so access is likely available within a short drive from the campground. Planning accordingly for transportation to and from the beach is advisable.
In terms of services, Sutton Campground provides drinking water for its visitors. However, it's specifically mentioned that this water is "not to fill RV tanks," so RV campers need to plan ahead for their water supply. Additionally, the campground does not offer a "sewer dump" facility, which is another important consideration for RV owners who will need to utilize off-site dump stations. Despite these limitations for RVs, the availability of drinking water is a basic and essential amenity appreciated by all campers.
Positive feedback was given regarding the campground hosts, who were described as "great" during one visitor's stay. Friendly and helpful hosts can significantly enhance the camping experience, providing assistance and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable visit for all campers.
For those sensitive to noise, one reviewer provided valuable information about the different camping loops within Sutton Campground. Loops A and B are noted to have "no road noise from 101," suggesting a quieter and more peaceful environment. In contrast, Loop C has "a little" road noise, and Loop D has "quite a bit." This information can be very helpful for campers when selecting a campsite, allowing them to prioritize a quieter location if desired.
The presence of a "gorgeous" trail near the campground is another significant feature. One reviewer mentioned that "one loop was about 10,000 steps," indicating a substantial and scenic hiking opportunity right from the campground. The trail, characterized by "beautiful trees," offers a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area on foot, providing an additional recreational activity for campers.
In summary, the features and services of Sutton Campground include:
- Beautiful and green campsites with ample trees, providing shade and a natural ambiance.
- Both electric and non-electric campsite options available.
- Potentially close proximity of some campsites to each other.
- No direct beach access from the campground.
- Drinking water is available (not for filling RV tanks).
- No on-site sewer dump facility for RVs.
- Great campground hosts reported by visitors.
- Different camping loops with varying levels of road noise from Highway 101 (A & B quietest, D loudest).
- Access to a gorgeous hiking trail with beautiful scenery.
No specific promotional information or discounts were mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the positive descriptions of the natural beauty, the availability of both electric and non-electric sites, and the access to a scenic hiking trail serve as strong inherent attractions for those seeking "camping near me" along the Oregon coast.
Sutton Campground appears to be an excellent choice for campers who prioritize a beautiful, wooded environment and access to hiking trails. While the lack of direct beach access and full RV hookups (specifically sewer dump) are important considerations for some, the overall positive feedback, particularly regarding the natural setting and the hosts, suggests a pleasant camping experience. Local users looking for a coastal camping getaway near Florence should consider Sutton Campground for its scenic beauty and tranquil atmosphere.

Sutton Campground Reviews
Great spot - campsites are nice and green with lots of trees. Both electric and non electric options. Some campsites are quite close so your neighbors could make or break your camping trip. No direct beach access here. Drinking water is available but not to fill RV tanks so plan ahead. No sewer dump. Great hosts during our stay.A and B loops have no road noise from 101. C has a little, D has quite a bit.
Oct 01, 2023 · Oregon AliveThe campground was very beautiful, nestled among many trees, so you couldn't see the neighbors. The trail was gorgeous with beautiful trees, and one loop was about 10,000 steps.
Jun 04, 2024 · Le Thien Phuc TranWe were originally going to be staying for two nights but ended up staying for a total of four because of how beautiful the campsite was and how incredible the hosts were. The campsites are bigger then you think, bathrooms the cleanest I've EVER used in a campsite, hosts go above and beyond, and most of all you wake up to the noise of waves from the Ocean!
Aug 05, 2022 · Mackenzee RojeskiThis is one of our favorite campgrounds. Nice and shady. Well treed. Nice and clean bathrooms. Huge private sites throughout the campground as well.My one complaint is that the price for a night has gotten a tad pricey.
Mar 12, 2025 · Mike CadaretteWe found a nice, spacious spot nestled between tall trees. Big enough for a 6-person tent and a 2-person tent (not all sites seemed so spacious). Lots of cheap firewood on Hwy 101, within minutes of the camp. Close enough to town to go grab stuff at Fred Meyer if needed, but far enough away to feel like a nature retreat. Great hike to the coast has a trailhead in the middle of the campground.
