Horse Creek Campground Introduce
For local users in Oregon searching for "camping near me" and desiring a more secluded and rustic experience, Horse Creek Campground, situated on NF-58 in Florence, OR 97439, USA, presents an appealing option. Contactable via phone at (541) 563-8400 or +1 541-563-8400, this campground, also known locally as Misty Mountain, offers a tranquil escape from more crowded camping areas.
The environment of Horse Creek Campground is frequently described as secluded and quiet. One visitor expressed their appreciation for having "almost the whole campground to ourselves," highlighting its peaceful atmosphere. This makes it an excellent choice for individuals or groups seeking a more private camping experience, particularly those who typically prefer dispersed camping but may not find suitable options in the immediate vicinity. Compared to other campgrounds in the area, Horse Creek Campground appears to offer a greater sense of isolation and connection with nature, away from the bustle of more populated sites.
It is crucial for potential visitors to understand the services and features available, as Horse Creek Campground is characterized by its primitive nature. As explicitly stated in a review, there is "no electricity, no water." This lack of utility hookups means that campers must be entirely self-sufficient in these regards. It is essential to bring an adequate water supply for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. For power needs, visitors will need to rely on battery-powered devices or portable generators. One reviewer mentioned using an "ultra quiet generator alot" for charging batteries, making coffee, and running a heater to prevent mold in their RV due to the potentially damp environment.
In terms of sanitation, the campground offers at least one restroom with a vault toilet. Vault toilets are non-flushing toilets that do not require water, which aligns with the campground's primitive setup. Campers should come prepared with their own toiletries and hand sanitizer, as these may not be readily available.
Despite the lack of hookups, the campsites themselves are reported to be "well maintained and nice flat areas." This suggests that while the campground is rustic, efforts are made to ensure the usability and comfort of the individual camping spots. The flat terrain of the sites is a significant advantage for setting up tents or parking RVs.
Interestingly, the reviews indicate that "big rigs and horse trailers make the climb all the time" to Horse Creek Campground. This is reassuring for those driving larger vehicles, suggesting that the access road is manageable, albeit with the caveat to "drive slow and be cautious at all times." One reviewer even advises drivers of vehicles over 9000 lbs to stop halfway down to rest their brakes, indicating a potentially steep or winding section of the access road. However, the same reviewer also notes that even a "little eco car" will make it up "just fine," implying that the road is generally accessible for various types of vehicles, provided caution is exercised.
A notable feature mentioned is the presence of a Park Ranger who "comes along several times," which provides a sense of security and reassurance for campers. This regular presence of park personnel can be beneficial for addressing any concerns and ensuring the general safety and adherence to regulations within the campground.
Based on the provided information, there is no specific promotional information available for Horse Creek Campground. Details regarding camping fees, reservation procedures, length of stay limits, or any special programs or events are not mentioned in the reviews. Local users interested in camping at Horse Creek Campground should contact the provided phone numbers to inquire about these logistical details and to make reservations, especially during peak seasons when secluded campgrounds might be in high demand.
In summary, Horse Creek Campground near Florence, Oregon, offers a secluded and rustic camping experience ideal for those seeking tranquility and a break from more developed campgrounds. Its key features include a quiet environment, well-maintained and flat campsites, accessibility for larger vehicles (with caution), and periodic visits from a Park Ranger. However, it is essential to note that it is a primitive campground with no electricity or water hookups and relies on vault toilets for sanitation. Campers must be fully self-sufficient in these areas. For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize solitude and a more natural setting over modern amenities, Horse Creek Campground, also known as Misty Mountain, is a compelling option. Potential visitors should be prepared for dry camping and contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on fees and reservations.
The campground's appeal lies in its ability to provide a dispersed camping-like experience within a designated campground setting, offering a balance of seclusion and maintained sites. The fact that it is locally known as Misty Mountain adds to its unique character and allure. For those equipped for primitive camping and seeking a peaceful retreat in the Florence area, Horse Creek Campground warrants consideration. Remember to call ahead for any specific requirements or recommendations based on your vehicle and camping setup.

Horse Creek Campground Reviews
Loved this little secluded camp ground! It was very quiet and we had almost the whole camp ground to ourselves. As people who typically do dispersed camping (but couldn’t find any in the area), this was perfect! We checked out the other campgrounds in the area and this was much better for people who don’t want to be near other people.
Jun 20, 2024 · Fiona GrahamLocally known as Misty Mountain, this place will take you back in time. There is no electricity, no water, incase you didn't read that already. 1 restroom with vault toilet. I used my ultra quiet generator alot. Charging batteries, making lots of coffee, keeping heater running in my rig to prevent mold, because it happens quick here. The sites are we maintained and nice flat areas. Big rigs and horse trailers make the climb all the time, so don't worry yourself if you drive a little eco car, it will make it up just fine as well. Drive slow and be cautious at all times. If your rig is over 9000Lbs I'd advise stopping half way down and rest your breaks. Park Ranger comes along several times, which makes for a reassurance of sorts.
Feb 05, 2023 · Ray RedCloudI went up here for Valentine's day. One of the cleanest campsites I have seen. It is secluded enough that it's not overrun with people, but easy enough to find. There is plenty of stray brush to burn on top of the wood you bring yourself, and it has benches and iron grills above the fire pit for a nice little picnic.
