Based on customer reviews, this establishment provides a unique blend of natural beauty, family-friendly features, and opportunities for relaxation and outdoor activities, all within convenient driving distance of Lake Michigan.
The environment at Roses Retreats Cabins & Campsites is characterized by its natural woodland setting and access to a lake, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a retreat into nature. While one reviewer noted that the location was "a little hard to find," the overall impression is of a peaceful and secluded environment. The owner's anecdote about bringing his sons to spend their summers "running around in the woods and playing on the lake" paints a picture of a campground deeply connected to its natural surroundings. This suggests an environment where guests can immerse themselves in the outdoors, enjoy the tranquility of the woods, and take advantage of the lake for recreation.
A significant feature of Roses Retreats is the availability of both cabins and campsites, catering to different preferences and needs. While the reviews primarily focus on the camping experience and the lake activities, the name itself indicates that cabin rentals are also an option. This provides flexibility for local users who might prefer the comfort and convenience of a cabin over tent camping, especially for longer stays or during varying weather conditions. Information regarding the specific types and sizes of cabins available would be beneficial for those interested in this accommodation option, and direct contact with the campground is recommended for such details.
One of the standout services highlighted in the reviews is the exceptional friendliness and attentiveness of the owner. Both reviewers specifically praised the owner's demeanor and helpfulness. One recounted a situation where the owner's "fire-building skills" were greatly appreciated, and the other noted the owner being "very friendly and attentive to our requests." This personal touch and dedication to guest satisfaction can significantly enhance the camping experience, making visitors feel welcome and well-cared for. This level of service is a strong positive for local users when considering their options for "camping near me."
The presence of a lake suitable for canoeing is another key feature of Roses Retreats. One reviewer mentioned renting a canoe and paddling around the lake, describing it as a very relaxing activity. This amenity adds a recreational dimension to the campground, allowing guests to explore the water at their own pace and enjoy the scenic beauty from a different perspective. For local users interested in combining camping with water-based activities like canoeing, Roses Retreats offers a convenient option.
The campground is described as "very kid-friendly" due to the owner's children spending their summers there. This suggests that the environment is safe and welcoming for families with children, and there might be activities or a general atmosphere that caters to younger guests. While specific kid-friendly amenities are not detailed, the overall impression is that children can enjoy the freedom of playing in the woods and by the lake in a safe environment. This makes Roses Retreats an attractive option for local families searching for "camping near me" that is suitable for their children.
The spacing between campsites is also noted as a positive aspect. One reviewer mentioned that their campsite was "perfect because there was good distance between ours and the next site." This spaciousness contributes to a sense of privacy and tranquility, allowing campers to feel more immersed in nature and less crowded by their neighbors. This is a significant advantage for those who value personal space and a peaceful camping experience when looking for "camping near me."
While the majority of the feedback is positive, one reviewer mentioned an initial difficulty in finding the place and a locked gate upon arrival despite a reservation. However, they also emphasized that the owner and his sons quickly turned their attitude around with their helpfulness. This suggests that while there might be minor logistical challenges, the quality of service and the overall experience more than compensate for them. It's always advisable for local users to obtain clear directions or communicate their expected arrival time with the campground to avoid any initial inconvenience.
The recommendation of Roses Retreats to "anyone who wants a relaxing weekend of camping and canoeing within driving distance of Lake Michigan" highlights its appeal to local users in the region. The proximity to Lake Michigan offers the potential for day trips to enjoy the larger lake's attractions, while Roses Retreats itself provides a more secluded and intimate camping experience. This combination of a peaceful campground setting with access to a major regional attraction enhances its value as a "camping near me" option.

Roses Retreats Cabins & Campsites Reviews
Though the place was a little hard to find, and we were kind of worried when we arrived on a Friday afternoon to find the gate still locked despite our reservation, the owner and his sons turned our attitudes around pronto. We were EXTREMELY grateful for the fire-building skills of the owner, a former Eagle Scout; while he was helping us build our fire on our first night, he told us that he brings his three young sons with him up from the big city every year, to spend their summers running around in the woods and playing on the lake, which sounds like the best possible way a boy could ever spend a summer. Because his sons spend so much time at the campground, the whole establishment is very kid-friendly, and all of our neighbors were extremely considerate and nice (except for some rowdy frat boys next door). I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend of camping and canoeing within driving distance of Lake Michigan.
Aug 04, 2014 · Dave WurtsmithWe went about a month ago and LOVED it! First of all, the owner was very friendly and attentive to our requests. Our campsite was perfect because there was good distance between ours and the next site. We rented a canoe and paddled around the lake, and mostly hung out and relaxed on our campsite. Very relaxing. We'll be back soon!
Jul 24, 2012 · Erin WawokI struggle between 1 and 2 stars here ... I wouldn't say I hated it, but it certainly was not ideal. I agree with the previous reviewer, the grounds have _GREAT_ potential; this property is in dire, DIRE need of TLC and just general maintenance and upkeep. We stayed in a cabin (The Pine)... which was also in need of a deep cleaning and a fresh coat of paint on the inside. During our 2 night stay, we shared the living space with a bird chirping inside the wall, a mouse, and a couple of roaches. The bathrooms were very dirty and we used the showers once. The "bath house" is listed on the website as "modern". ... I think that means there is running water, and the water was warm, but that was the end of "modern". I will l say this, the owner was very nice and very cordial... but even he described the bathrooms as "rustic" (much more accurate). The microwave provided as part of our rental had to be unplugged after each use because the "1" key would be perpetually activated and "beep" continuously. There was lake access, but it was heavily overgrown/brushy along the long dock and there was about 25-yards of Lily Pads to reach open water. I wouldn't say we had high expectations... we knew we were going to be in a cabin with electric only, and we had considered coming up and camping in a tent; we opted to go with the cabin when we saw that there was only a small price difference. Unfortunately, the facilities were ill-suited to the expectations when everyone in the campground relies on one, small, rustic bath house.
Jul 28, 2015 · John GThe campgrounds are amazing. We had an event with a few hundred friends getting together. They were very accommodating to all the events and parking was not an issue. Highly recommend this location to friends due to it's quiet atmosphere, but especially because it is only a short drive from home.
Aug 19, 2013 · Andrew Buck MichaelExcellent campgrounds! I was here for a large group event in August 2013 and thought the campground was not only laid out excellently, but in an awesome location as well. The area is large, scenic, and very easy to navigate in the dark! Couldn't have been happier and can't wait to visit again.
