Don’t, just don’t.The lady that came and took my money seemed very friendly. I stayed here in October 2024 and I was the only one there which was nice.16 cars ( yes I counted) drove down to the river for what purpose I don’t know, but essentially circled around and shown their headlights and made noise until about midnight or one in the morning . This campsite is essentially is in the backyard of people from the town so to drive down to the river it takes about a minute and a half from where you live I would guess . One ATV even graced me with his presence four times with his loud muffler. It is quiet and peaceful other than cars from the town, and you’re right on the river pretty much. The spot is nice, but the sites are sort of hacked out of a stripper land by the river, even if the bathroom were clean, and there were no cars it would be fairly meh.Not only was it a heavy traffic area. The pit toilet bathroom wasn’t good enough for somebody so they used the floor. Didn’t look like anybody cleaned up in there in a while. Disgusting. There was no toilet paper. All the comforts of home, depending on where you live. For anyone who rides Motorcycle the smoky and the bandit bridge is a bit dodgy . Just a couple miles down the road from the campsite. - Starlord Starlordman

Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground Introduce

For local users exploring 'camping near me' options in the vicinity of St Francisville, Illinois, the Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground, situated on River Park Rd, St Francisville, IL 62460, USA, presents a location directly adjacent to the river. However, recent reviews from campers paint a mixed picture, highlighting both the potential appeal of its riverside setting and significant drawbacks related to noise, traffic, and the condition of its facilities. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on these user experiences to help local users make an informed decision.

The environment of Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground is undoubtedly defined by its riverside location. Several reviewers mention being "right on the river" or having the campsite "pretty much" by the river. This proximity suggests potential for scenic views, access to water-related activities such as fishing and boating (supported by the presence of a boat ramp), and the generally tranquil ambiance often associated with being near a body of water. One reviewer who stayed in October 2024 noted the quiet and peaceful atmosphere, which could be a characteristic of the location, particularly during less busy times. The presence of a "clean and busy little boat ramp" indicates that the river is actively used by the local community for boating access. Additionally, one reviewer noted seeing "several non-venomous water snakes," suggesting the presence of local wildlife typical of a riverside ecosystem.

However, the positive aspects of the environment are significantly countered by concerns raised in other reviews. Multiple users reported issues with noise and traffic from the nearby town. One reviewer detailed an experience where "16 cars" drove down to the river late at night, circled around with headlights on, and made noise until well past midnight. Another mentioned an ATV driving by loudly four times. This suggests that the campground's proximity to the town results in a lack of seclusion and potential disturbances from local traffic, negating the peaceful riverside setting at times. One reviewer even described the location as being "essentially in the backyard of people from the town," further emphasizing the lack of separation from local activity.

The services and features at Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground appear to be quite basic, and the quality of some facilities is a major point of concern based on the reviews:

  • Riverside access: Direct or very close access to the river for recreational activities.
  • Boat ramp: A "clean and busy little boat ramp" is available for launching and retrieving boats.
  • Pit toilet bathroom: The campground offers a pit toilet, which, according to multiple reviews, is in poor condition. Complaints include it not being "good enough for somebody so they used the floor," appearing uncleaned "in a while," and lacking toilet paper.
  • Payment collection: One reviewer mentioned a "very friendly" lady collecting payment, indicating some form of management presence.
  • Spaciousness (potential): One reviewer who was the only camper in October 2024 noted it "was nice," possibly implying sufficient space between sites, although this is not consistently mentioned.

Notably absent from the positive aspects and heavily criticized in the negative reviews are the cleanliness and maintenance of the restroom facilities. The description of the pit toilet as "disgusting" and the lack of basic supplies like toilet paper are significant drawbacks that potential campers should be aware of.

The features of Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground are somewhat overshadowed by the negative feedback regarding noise and facility conditions. The primary potential feature is its location directly on the river, offering opportunities for fishing and boating via the accessible boat ramp. The friendly demeanor of the person collecting payment is a minor positive note regarding the management interaction. However, the recurring issues with disruptive local traffic, particularly at night, and the severely criticized state of the pit toilet are significant negative features that detract from the campground's appeal.

One reviewer's comment about the campsites being "sort of hacked out of a stripper land by the river" is unclear in its meaning but suggests a potentially unrefined or less aesthetically pleasing development of the camping area. This, combined with the traffic and facility issues, contributes to a less than ideal overall impression for some users.

The mention of the "smoky and the bandit bridge" being "a bit dodgy" for motorcycles a couple of miles down the road is an interesting local detail but not directly a feature of the campground itself. However, it might be relevant for motorcycle enthusiasts considering staying at the campground and exploring the surrounding area.

Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information about promotional offers or discounts for Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground. Given the negative feedback concerning the facilities and noise, it is possible that the campground is either very basic and inexpensive or potentially facing management or maintenance issues. Local users interested in camping here should likely inquire directly with the relevant authorities (e.g., the St Francisville town or county parks department) about current rates, policies, and, most importantly, the current condition of the facilities and any measures being taken to address the noise concerns.

In conclusion, while Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground benefits from its location directly on the river and its access to a boat ramp, potential local users searching for 'camping near me' must carefully consider the significant negative feedback present in recent reviews. The issues of nighttime noise and traffic from the nearby town, coupled with the reported unclean and poorly maintained pit toilet facilities lacking basic supplies, are serious concerns. While one reviewer noted a peaceful stay in October 2024, the more critical reviews suggest that this might not be the typical experience. Before deciding to camp at Saint Francisville Riverside Park & Campground, local users are strongly advised to seek more current information from the managing authorities regarding the state of the facilities and any efforts to mitigate the reported disturbances.
