Salamonie Lake Modern Campground Introduce
Are you searching for the perfect camping escape close to home? Look no further than Salamonie Lake Modern Campground, nestled at 9214 Lost Bridge Rd W, Andrews, IN 46702, USA. Conveniently located for local users seeking a refreshing outdoor experience, Salamonie Lake Modern Campground offers a blend of natural beauty and modern amenities within the broader category of "camping near me."
Salamonie Lake itself is a significant draw, providing picturesque lake views that many visitors appreciate. Imagine waking up to the tranquil sight of the water and enjoying the peaceful ambiance it creates. For those who enjoy lakeside activities, the proximity to the water's edge offers opportunities for leisurely walks and enjoying the natural scenery, particularly appealing during the vibrant fall season as noted by a returning visitor.
Beyond the lake, the surrounding area boasts natural trails that cater to different interests. Outdoor enthusiasts will be pleased to discover that the park features some "fun little beginner mountain bike trails," as mentioned in a review. These trails provide an excellent opportunity to explore the terrain and engage in some light adventure. Additionally, the area is conducive to walking, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the natural environment at their own pace.
As a "modern campground," Salamonie Lake aims to provide certain conveniences for campers. While specific details about all services are not available in the provided information, the designation suggests the presence of developed campsites and potentially amenities such as restrooms, showers, and possibly electric hookups. For precise details on available services and amenities, it is recommended to contact the campground directly at (260) 468-2125 or +1 260-468-2125.
However, it's important to consider all aspects when planning your visit. One recent review highlighted concerns regarding the size and privacy of the campsites, noting that they felt "very small" with "barely space to set up a tent" and lacking privacy. This is a crucial point for campers who prioritize personal space and a secluded experience. It may be beneficial to inquire about campsite dimensions and layout when making a reservation to ensure it meets your needs.
The same review also mentioned an "unmarked unofficial public access trail going directly through our campsite," which caused inconvenience and a disruptive incident involving an e-bike damaging their tent. This suggests potential issues with campsite boundaries and public access within the campground. It would be prudent to inquire about campsite demarcation and potential shared access areas when booking.
Furthermore, the review raised concerns about the level of DNR (Department of Natural Resources) management, describing it as "excessive." Specific examples included patrolling at dusk with blue lights and the enforcement of regulations such as fines for riding in the bed of a pickup truck within the campground. While rules and regulations are in place to ensure safety and order, the reviewer perceived these actions negatively. It is advisable to familiarize yourself with the campground's rules and regulations beforehand to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay.
In summary, Salamonie Lake Modern Campground offers a location with appealing natural features, including lake views and beginner-friendly mountain biking trails. It falls under the category of "camping near me," making it a potentially convenient option for local campers. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the concerns raised in the reviews regarding campsite size and privacy, potential issues with public access through campsites, and the perceived level of DNR management. For detailed information about campsite availability, specific amenities, and current regulations, please contact the campground directly at (260) 468-2125 or +1 260-468-2125.

Salamonie Lake Modern Campground Reviews
Very small campsites barely space to set up a tent, no privacy. Unfortunately we had an unmarked unofficial public access trail going directly through our campsite, which was a bit unhandy. At one point an e-bike came through while we were enjoying our supper and badly damaged our tent. Also the DNR micro-management here is nothing short of excessive, including but not limited to patrolling the campsites at dusk with blue lights lit, and threatening with whopping $1,000 fines for riding in the bed of a pickup truck (while camping, in a campground). I can't recommend this place. There's some fun little beginner mountain bike trails at the park that are fun, though.
Oct 25, 2024 · Jasper HigginsNice place with a lake view. We come here every fall to enjoy the trails and walk the waters edge.
Oct 25, 2024 · Thomas ShivelyMy family wintered at Salamonie over this last winter. We absolutely love it here. The DNR staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We have only had positive experiences in our interactions with the DNR staff. The grounds are clean and kept up nicely. There is ample wildlife that will sometimes come into the campground for an up close view to enhance your experience. Perfect place for quiet, relaxing retreat or weekend getaway.
Apr 09, 2025 · Lorna KolkmanWe have spent many summer days at this campground and love it. We will continue to stay at this campground every summer. There is so much to do at the campground it's self, but there is lots to do in the surrounding communities as well. It has a friendly atmosphere and a clean. There are a variety of campsites, private, open, and buddy sites. They have water fill stations and a dump station. Drawbacks are no sewage hook up, and you have to book 6 months in advance, or you won't get a good spot if at all.
Mar 26, 2024 · Tina Humphrey (klph69)One of my top state parks to visit! There's so much to do around the lake, there's the state forest and a couple different nature preserves to go to and also other Rec areas around the lake. There is plenty to keep you busy, especially if you like hiking or boating. I go there primarily to hike and there are countless miles to see!
