For local users searching for "camping near me," Salt Fork State Park Campground, located at R-5, Cambridge, OH 43725, USA, offers a large and well-maintained option for your next outdoor adventure. According to customer reviews, this park boasts friendly hosts and staff, clean facilities, and a variety of activities. Let's delve into the environment, services, and features that make Salt Fork State Park Campground a noteworthy choice for local camping enthusiasts.
Environment: A Large and Beautiful Park
Salt Fork State Park is described as an "amazing" and "huge" park, indicating a sprawling natural landscape for visitors to explore. The positive feedback highlights that the park is "kept so nicely," suggesting well-maintained grounds and attention to the overall aesthetic appeal. While one review mentions that "unless you fish or hike, there isn't much to do" within the immediate campground area, the beauty of the park itself is consistently acknowledged. This suggests that the environment is a significant draw for those who appreciate natural scenery and outdoor activities like fishing and hiking.
The presence of "beaches and marinas" that are "cared for" points to the availability of water-based recreational opportunities. This could include swimming, boating, and other activities associated with a large park featuring a lake or significant water bodies. For local users seeking "camping near me" within a large and beautiful natural setting with water access, Salt Fork State Park Campground offers a compelling environment.
Services and Amenities: Cleanliness and Hookups
Based on the customer reviews, Salt Fork State Park Campground provides several key services and amenities:
- Clean Shower Houses: The shower houses are described as "large clean and hot" by one reviewer, although another mentions they "need updates badly" while still being clean. This suggests that while the cleanliness is generally good, the facilities might be somewhat dated.
- Friendly Staff and Hosts: Multiple mentions of "friendly hosts and staff," although one reviewer had a less positive experience with a specific camping host. Overall, the general impression is positive.
- Full Hookups (Some Sites): It's noted that "some of the spots are full hookups," advising campers to "check beforehand" if this is a requirement. This indicates that a range of camping site options might be available.
- Dog Park: A "nice dog park" is mentioned, making it a pet-friendly option for those who like to camp with their dogs.
- No Internet and Limited TV: One reviewer noted "no internet" and the difficulty in getting more than "three antenna stations," which were "spotty." This suggests that digital connectivity might be limited.
The availability of clean (though potentially dated) shower facilities, the presence of some full hookup sites, and a dog park are notable amenities. For local users searching for "camping near me" with these features, Salt Fork State Park Campground is worth considering. However, potential campers should be aware of the limited digital connectivity.
Features: Size, Activities, and Accessibility
One of the primary features of Salt Fork State Park Campground is its sheer size. Being a "huge park," it offers ample space and a greater chance of securing a camping spot compared to smaller, more crowded parks. The availability of "great trails" and "things for kids to do" highlights its appeal for families and those interested in hiking and outdoor exploration.
The presence of beaches and marinas expands the recreational opportunities beyond hiking and potentially fishing. However, one review points out that "unless you fish or hike, there isn't much to do" within the park itself, suggesting that some activities might require driving. The park's location necessitates driving to nearby areas like Cambridge if campers are looking for more diverse entertainment options, though one reviewer noted that there "really isn't anything going on there."
The combination of a large, well-maintained park with amenities like clean showers and a dog park, alongside natural features like trails and water access, makes Salt Fork State Park Campground a multifaceted destination for local users seeking "camping near me." However, potential visitors should consider the limited internet access and the need to drive for certain activities or amenities outside the park.

Salt Fork State Park Campground Reviews
This park is amazing! It's kept so nicely. The shower houses are large clean and hot. Beaches and marinas are cared for. Friendly hosts and staff. It's quite large and not as hard to get a spot as it is at many of our other parks. Great trails and things for kids to do. Nice dog park.
May 02, 2025 · Patty CakeThe showers are clean, but they need updates badly. This is a huge park. Some of the spots are full hookups, check beforehand. Unless you fish or hike, there isn't much to do. You really have to drive to do anything. It is a beautiful park. The receptionist at the front gate was very friendly. The camping host at Campsite G, not so much. No internet, and you can only get three antenna stations, and they are spotty. You can drive into Cambridge, but there really isn't anything going on there.
Aug 21, 2024 · Thomas KemmettOur first time camping here with our dog. The camp sights are spaced out nicely, clean, the shower houses excellent, shading from trees is minimal unless your in C section or in G right by the bathrooms, the trails are wonderful, the campers we came across were respectful and we had no issues with dogs barking or off leash. We definitely saw the park system patrolling. Definitely would camp here again.
Jul 28, 2024 · EllyBeautiful state campground! Our site was in the 'F' loop where the sites are huge. The roads are paved, the grounds are very well maintained, sites have asphalt pads and some have concrete patio/pads. We stayed in a site that did not have any trees because we wanted to use our telescope at night (it was very dark). There are sites that have shade. There are hiking trails that are easily accessible from the campground. We will be back for sure!
Sep 20, 2021 · Kathy SmithBeautiful campgrounds. Plenty of space between sites. It's quiet and feels safe. Well maintained. Shower houses were clean and smelled of bleach. Campgrounds has a variety of activities to keep everyone busy.
