Sandstone Ridge Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a top-tier "camping near me" experience within the Wisconsin State Park system, Sandstone Ridge Campground, located near Reedsburg, WI 53959, USA, stands out as a highly recommended destination. Praised by visitors as one of the top 5 campgrounds in Wisconsin State Parks, Sandstone Ridge offers a blend of natural beauty, spacious and private campsites, and access to a variety of outdoor activities and nearby attractions.
The environment of Sandstone Ridge Campground is a significant draw, characterized by its natural beauty and tranquility. The mention of "great section that is very private, especially the 67-72 loop" suggests that certain areas of the campground are particularly secluded, offering campers a more intimate connection with nature. This privacy is a highly valued aspect for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The campground also boasts "excellent hiking trails," indicating opportunities for exploring the surrounding landscape on foot and immersing oneself in the natural environment. Furthermore, the area is described as a "great area to kayak," implying proximity to suitable waterways for paddling adventures, likely offering scenic views and opportunities for wildlife observation.
A key feature of Sandstone Ridge Campground is the size of its campsites. One reviewer explicitly stated, "The sites here are very large," elaborating that a single site could comfortably accommodate "three large vehicles and a large tent and a small tent at the same time." This exceptional spaciousness provides ample room for families or groups with multiple vehicles and camping setups, ensuring a less crowded and more comfortable experience. Campers with larger RVs or extensive gear will particularly appreciate this generous site sizing.
While the natural environment and campsite sizes are highly praised, one reviewer noted "some highway noise here." However, they also provided a helpful comparison, stating that it is "nothing like Rocky Arbor," another Wisconsin State Park known for its proximity to a major highway. This suggests that while some ambient noise from the road might be present, it is not overwhelming and likely does not detract significantly from the overall peacefulness of the campground, especially when compared to locations with more pronounced traffic sounds.
Individual campsites at Sandstone Ridge Campground also offer unique advantages. One reviewer highlighted Site 98 as "easily one of the best sites I've ever had in a state park." This site is described as "very isolated" while still being "reasonably close to the shower building," striking a balance between privacy and convenience. The terrain of Site 98 is also noteworthy, featuring a "flat area just big enough for cooking" and the rest gently sloped to effectively shed rain, indicating thoughtful design and natural drainage.
In terms of services and features typically found in Wisconsin State Parks, campers can generally expect well-maintained facilities such as restrooms and showers. The mention of a "shower building" in proximity to Site 98 confirms the availability of this amenity. State parks often provide drinking water stations and designated areas for waste disposal to ensure a comfortable and environmentally responsible camping experience. While not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, it is reasonable to assume that Sandstone Ridge Campground offers these standard state park services.
Beyond the campground itself, the surrounding area near Reedsburg offers "plenty of other fun tourist attractions as well." This makes Sandstone Ridge an excellent basecamp for exploring the local region. The "camping near me" platform would ideally provide information on these attractions, which could include natural landmarks, historical sites, local events, or recreational activities beyond hiking and kayaking within the park. This proximity to other points of interest adds value for campers looking to combine their outdoor experience with exploring the local culture and sights.
For local users exploring the "camping near me" category, Sandstone Ridge Campground represents a highly regarded option within the Wisconsin State Park system. The platform would likely feature listings for nearby businesses that offer related services and goods, such as outdoor gear retailers, kayak rental or sales, hiking equipment stores, and local maps or guides to the Reedsburg area and its attractions. Information on grocery stores and restaurants in Reedsburg would also be valuable for campers needing supplies or wanting to dine out.
Promotional information for Wisconsin State Parks, including Sandstone Ridge Campground, is typically available through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website. Local users might find information on seasonal camping rates, required state park vehicle admission stickers, and any special events or programs happening at the park. Reservations for campsites in Wisconsin State Parks can usually be made online through the DNR's reservation system, and it is often advisable to book in advance, especially for popular campgrounds like Sandstone Ridge, particularly during peak seasons and weekends. The "camping near me" platform might provide direct links to the state park reservation system or highlight any current promotions or reservation tips.
In conclusion, Sandstone Ridge Campground offers local residents a top-tier "camping near me" experience within the Wisconsin State Park system near Reedsburg. Its private and exceptionally spacious campsites, excellent hiking trails, and great kayaking opportunities make it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts. While some highway noise may be present, it is generally considered minimal. The proximity to other fun tourist attractions in the area adds further appeal. Aug 16, 2022 · Matt WidupOver all a good place. A few flaws which I didn't like. I didn't like the fixed light post hanger was in the way and had to work around it. Mostly a kayak destination area. Beautiful trails, but limited amount of trails to go through. If you're tenting and didn't mind the highways noise. Electrical spots didn't have tent pad options, but it was wide enough for a pulled winnebago and tent together. Dogs are allowed and leashed. If I remembered, no dogs on beach like any WI state park with dogs. Northern camp sites are the power sites, shower seperated into men's / women's room. Southern camp sites are not powered, but updated flushable toilet and showers. Bait shop and kayak rentals at boat launch are still closed due to COVID-19. Would admit it is a busy state park. Good luck and happy camping. I enjoyed it!
