Sawmill Flat Campground Introduce
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category near Naches, Washington, Sawmill Flat Campground, located on WA-410, Naches, WA 98937, USA, presents a camping option with a long history for some families, offering riverside access and potentially spacious campsites. The contact numbers provided are (877) 444-6777 and +1 877-444-6777. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed picture, highlighting both the appealing natural environment and significant concerns regarding cleanliness and maintenance that potential visitors should carefully consider.
The environment at Sawmill Flat Campground has historically been a major draw, with one family reporting 20 years of camping enjoyment due to the "campsites and the river access." This suggests a potentially beautiful natural setting with the added benefit of being near a river, offering opportunities for activities such as fishing, wading, or simply enjoying the water's edge. One positive review from 2021 mentions the kids having a "blast exploring the area," indicating a landscape that encourages outdoor exploration. The same reviewer noted that while the water was too fast for playing, there was still "definitely a lot of exploring you can do." Additionally, they appreciated the spaciousness of campsite 10, particularly for their dog and children to play. This suggests that at least some campsites offer ample room. However, contrasting this, more recent reviews raise serious concerns about the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the campground, which could detract significantly from the enjoyment of the natural environment.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide conflicting information and highlight significant shortcomings. While one older review praises the camp hosts, Scooter and Marilyn, as "so nice" and unobtrusive, more recent feedback paints a concerning picture of the campground's upkeep. Multiple reviewers mention a lack of routine cleaning and maintenance. One reported arriving at a campsite well after check-in to find it had not been cleaned, with trash, cigarette butts in the fire pit, and food remnants present. This lack of cleanliness was also linked to a severe wasp and yellow jacket infestation, described as the "worst ever," forcing campers to eat inside their tents or vehicles to avoid being swarmed. Furthermore, a four-day camping trip revealed that the campground, campsites, and vault toilets were never cleaned, with the toilets being described as "ABSOLUTELY UNBEARABLE!" These accounts raise serious questions about the current level of service and maintenance at Sawmill Flat Campground. On a more positive note, one reviewer pointed out a discrepancy regarding vehicle limits per site, stating that while recreation.gov indicated one vehicle, signage at the campground allowed for two, which could be a helpful piece of information for some local users.
The key features of Sawmill Flat Campground, based on the historical positive feedback, include its river access and potentially spacious campsites (as experienced by one reviewer in site 10). The proximity to the river offers a significant recreational advantage for those who enjoy water-related activities. The availability of some larger campsites can be appealing for families or groups needing more space. However, the more recent and concerning reviews highlight a severe lack of maintenance and cleanliness as a dominant feature of the current experience. The reported wasp and yellow jacket infestation, exacerbated by the unclean conditions, is a significant negative feature that could severely impact the comfort and safety of campers. The state of the vault toilets being "unbearable" is another critical drawback. While the presence of a camp host was noted positively in the past, their impact on the overall cleanliness and maintenance is not evident in the negative reviews.
The location of Sawmill Flat Campground on WA-410 near Naches, WA, places it within a region known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The proximity to a river suggests potential for fishing, swimming (depending on water flow and safety), and scenic enjoyment. The surrounding area likely offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the natural landscapes of the Naches Valley. However, the recent negative reviews indicate that the on-site experience at the campground might not align with the beauty of the broader region. Local users familiar with the area might be drawn to the location due to its accessibility and natural setting, but the reported issues need to be carefully considered.
Promotional information for Sawmill Flat Campground is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the historical positive feedback regarding the campsites and river access could be used in promotional materials. Highlighting the potential for family-friendly camping and the spaciousness of some sites (like site 10) might also be part of their appeal. However, any responsible promotion would need to address the serious concerns raised in the recent reviews about cleanliness, maintenance, and pest infestations. Ignoring these issues would likely lead to further negative feedback and dissatisfied customers. Potential promotional efforts could focus on a commitment to improving cleanliness and maintenance, addressing the pest problems, and ensuring a more positive experience for future visitors. Until such improvements are demonstrably in place, any promotion might be met with skepticism by local users who rely on recent reviews.
For local users considering Sawmill Flat Campground within the "camping near me" category, it is crucial to weigh the positive historical aspects (river access, potentially spacious sites) against the significant negative feedback regarding current cleanliness, maintenance, and pest issues. The stark contrast between the positive review from 2021 and the more recent, highly critical reviews suggests a potential decline in the campground's upkeep. If river access and potentially larger campsites are priorities, it might be worth inquiring directly with the campground management about the current conditions and any steps being taken to address the reported problems. It would also be wise to check for more recent reviews on other platforms to get a broader sense of the current state of the campground. Given the severity of the cleanliness and pest concerns, local users might want to consider alternative campgrounds in the Naches area until there is evidence of significant improvement at Sawmill Flat Campground.
In conclusion, Sawmill Flat Campground near Naches offers the potential for enjoyable riverside camping and spacious campsites, which have been appreciated by some visitors in the past. However, recent reviews paint a concerning picture of poor cleanliness, inadequate maintenance, and significant problems with wasp and yellow jacket infestations, along with unbearable vault toilet conditions. Local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of these serious issues and exercise caution before booking a stay at Sawmill Flat Campground. While the location and some features may be appealing, the reported lack of upkeep could severely detract from the overall camping experience. It is recommended to seek more current information and potentially consider alternative campgrounds in the area that offer a higher standard of cleanliness and maintenance.

Sawmill Flat Campground Reviews
Our family has been camping here for 20 years. Still love the campsites and the river access, but the campground is in need of routine cleaning and maintenance! We arrived to our campsites well after check-in and it was apparent it had not been cleaned. Trash, cigarette butts filled fire pit, food remnants. This did not help the wasp/yellow jacket infestation. They were really bad this year…actually the worst ever! We literally had to eat our meals in our tents or vehicles. We camped for 4 days and there was never anyone cleaning the campground, campsites as people left, or the vault toilets…which were ABSOLUTELY UNBEARABLE!
Aug 13, 2024 · M MooreSecond camping trip for 2021! My family and stayed at Sawmill Flat Campground and we loved it😍. The camp host Scooter and Marilyn were so nice and really just kept to themselves 🧡. The kids had a blast exploring the area. Water was way to fast for them to play in, but there is definitely a lot of exploring you can do. We stayed in campsite 10 and we loved the amount of space we had especially for our dog and the kids to play. Definitely recommend 👌 Also on recreation.gov it said only one vehicle per site but at the campground it says two vehicles can stay just FYI see picture below.
May 16, 2021 · Sara DiazTucked along the Naches River, the Sawmill Flat Campground has some of the best camping sites in the state. A number of them front the river and offer low bank access so you can pull up a chair and eat your breakfast or dangle your feet in the river. They’re well spaced and have ample room for a large tent. Improbably, we found not a single bug there on a mid-August visit.
Aug 26, 2022 · Tom PendergastIt was gorgeous and keeps cool in the hot weather even though it is very close to Naches and Yakima. Helpful camp host. Clean washrooms. I'll book it again. Pleasant mornings with bird and river sounds. Water pump and trash options are there.- I booked spot 23, and it was very close to 20. It was small and not private, so we requested switching, and the camp host was really friendly and smart; they helped us out. Other campgrounds were really big and nice. You may hear a road sound from some of the roadside campsites, but at the same time, you will hear the River sound.- The River has cold water, and the flow is pretty fast, so perfect for rafting, fishing but not good for tubing or swimming activities.- Someone saw a bear during our stay, it seems elks come, but the bear would be an unusual visitor. It would be important to keep the food safely stored.- There is a burn ban going on. So right now, you can't do any campfires.
Jul 06, 2021 · shrad pandaA truly beautiful campground , very well maintained grounds with a fair amount of space between each camp. It is right along the side of the road and can be a little noisy when it's busy . But all in all the river was beautiful , the grounds were some of the best maintained I have ever seen . I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick get away , that's pretty , safe and open enough to bring the family.
