Scenic Acres Camp Ground Introduce
For local residents exploring "camping near me" options in the Winona, Minnesota area, Scenic Acres Camp Ground, located at 42793 Kipp Dr, presents a camping destination with a notable dichotomy in customer experiences. Based on the limited but contrasting reviews available, potential campers should carefully consider both the positive and negative aspects before making a decision.
One reviewer initially described Scenic Acres Camp Ground as a "nice little campground" but recounted a significant downturn in their experience, ultimately labeling it a "nightmare." The primary issue highlighted was a severe infestation of earwigs, reportedly numbering in the thousands within the camper's tent. This infestation was so extensive that it severely impacted the camper's ability to sleep, underscoring a potentially significant pest control issue at the campground.
Further negative feedback from the same reviewer included an alleged request from the host, Bev, for campers to burn all their trash due to her stated inability to afford garbage pickup. This raises concerns about waste disposal practices at the campground and could be inconvenient or undesirable for campers who prefer standard waste management services. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned a lack of communication regarding non-functional showers, suggesting a potential lack of transparency about available amenities.
The cost of firewood was also a point of contention, with the reviewer stating that Bev wanted to charge a dollar per piece of wood. This could make campfires prohibitively expensive for campers planning to enjoy this traditional camping activity. Furthermore, the reviewer described the host's management style negatively, recounting instances of being given orders from a mower in the mornings and, during the last two weeks of their stay, being refused toilet paper. These allegations paint a picture of a potentially unwelcoming and poorly managed environment.
Finally, the same reviewer noted that the location was consistently windy, to the point of hindering enjoyable outdoor activities. While wind conditions can be geographically dependent and variable, this feedback suggests that the open location of Scenic Acres Camp Ground might be prone to strong winds, which could impact the overall camping experience.
In stark contrast, another reviewer offered a more positive, albeit limited, perspective. This camper stated that "Bev keeps a clean camp site" and noted its location "in the middle of a wheat field," which they suggested allowed for a "quiet time." This highlights a potential advantage of Scenic Acres Camp Ground: its peaceful and secluded setting away from more bustling areas. The description of a quiet time in a wheat field evokes an image of rural tranquility that might appeal to campers seeking solitude.
The same positive reviewer also mentioned the absence of showers but surprisingly praised the "port a potty" as "the nicest I have ever used." This suggests that while traditional shower facilities may not be available (corroborating the other reviewer's point about non-functional showers), the portable toilet option is well-maintained and clean, which is a significant positive for basic sanitation needs.
Considering these divergent reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the potential benefits of a quiet location and a clean portable toilet against the serious concerns raised about earwig infestation, waste disposal, lack of showers, firewood costs, management style, and windy conditions. It is crucial to recognize that the experiences reported by these two campers were vastly different, suggesting potential inconsistencies in the campground's management or conditions over time.
Given the significant negative feedback, particularly regarding the earwig infestation and the alleged treatment by the host, prospective local campers might want to exercise caution and seek further information before booking a stay at Scenic Acres Camp Ground. Contacting the campground directly at (507) 643-6043 or +1 507-643-6043 to inquire about the current conditions, pest control measures, waste disposal policies, shower availability (or lack thereof), firewood costs, and management practices would be a prudent step.
It is also advisable to ask for recent feedback from other campers to get a more current and comprehensive understanding of the campground's environment and services. The stark contrast between the two available reviews underscores the importance of seeking multiple perspectives before making a decision, especially when significant concerns have been raised.
In conclusion, Scenic Acres Camp Ground near Winona, MN, presents a mixed picture for local campers. While it may offer a quiet location in a wheat field and a surprisingly clean portable toilet, serious issues have been reported regarding pest infestation, lack of showers, waste management, firewood costs, and potentially problematic management. The strong winds mentioned by one reviewer could also detract from the outdoor experience. Local users considering this campground should proceed with caution and due diligence, seeking current information directly from the host and potentially other recent campers to determine if it meets their expectations and needs for a "camping near me" experience.
Based on the available reviews, potential local campers should be aware of the following:
- Potential Earwig Infestation: One reviewer reported a severe problem that impacted sleep.
- No Showers (or Non-Functional): Both reviews suggest a lack of available shower facilities.
- Garbage Disposal Concerns: Allegations of being asked to burn trash due to cost.
- Firewood Costs: Reportedly $1 per piece.
- Potentially Unpleasant Management Style: Allegations of barking orders and refusing toilet paper.
- Windy Location: May hinder enjoyable outdoor activities.
- Quiet Location in a Wheat Field: A potential positive for those seeking tranquility.
- Clean Porta Potty: Noted as surprisingly nice by one reviewer.
Local campers are strongly encouraged to contact Scenic Acres Camp Ground at (507) 643-6043 or +1 507-643-6043 to obtain current information and address the significant concerns raised in the available reviews before deciding to book a stay. A thorough inquiry will help ensure a more informed decision about your "camping near me" experience in the Winona, MN area.

Scenic Acres Camp Ground Reviews
What started as a nice little campground, turned into a nightmare. There were so many earwigs that it literally kept me from sleeping. They numbered in the thousands in my tent. Bev tried to make us burn all our trash because she said she couldn't afford garbage pickup. We weren't told about her showers that she said she wasn't fixing. She wants to charge a buck per piece of wood. She rode down on her mower several mornings barking orders at us. The last 2 weeks we were there she refused us toilet paper. It was always so windy we simply could not do anything enjoyable outside.
Aug 06, 2022 · Brad HubertBev keeps a clean camp site. Located in the middle of a wheat field you can have a quiet time. There are no showers. The port a potty is the nicest I have ever used.
Aug 15, 2023 · Jack PhillipsIt's quiet. Simple. Convenient. Wildlife. Hear coyotes and frogs nightly. Top it off with a nice lady like Miss Bev and it's truly a diamond in the rough. We love it. Will add photos soon. There are nightly and monthly rates. Very reasonable price. Around $500 or less monthly and $35 or something like that for a night.
May 05, 2022 · Jason RobertsWe really enjoyed this quiet spot.Just outside of the St. Park. Nothing fancy. In an old farm houses back yard. Overlooks soy bean and corn fields. 4 sites with electricity and water. Picnic tables, firepits ,2 porta potties and a large shower room. All were clean. Bev was very gracious to us. A good base to explore from. Pet ok. No playground equipment. Large mowed area.
Sep 14, 2022 · Paul FBev was kind and accommodating. Finding the site can be a little tricky, so make sure to call ahead. When Bev gives you directions, you better listen, because this woman knows what she is talking about. Site is quiet and quaint. Great for a weary traveler and those just passing through.Wood provided, site has a beautiful and functional fire ring, as well as a picnic table. Thanks Bev for your willingness to stay up late for our arrival. God bless you.
