Camp Decorah - Gateway Area Council, Scouting America Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience with excellent facilities and a beautiful environment, Camp Decorah - Gateway Area Council, Scouting America, located in Holmen, Wisconsin, offers a promising option. Based on recent feedback, this camp provides a range of features that could appeal to various types of campers, particularly those interested in well-maintained grounds and opportunities for outdoor activities. While some aspects of the facilities have received specific comments, the overall sentiment points towards a positive and enjoyable camping experience.
The environment at Camp Decorah is described as "beautiful," suggesting that campers can expect scenic surroundings that enhance their outdoor stay. One reviewer also mentioned "nice views," further indicating the aesthetic appeal of the location. For those who enjoy exploring on foot, the camp boasts "many areas to hike at," providing opportunities to immerse oneself in nature and enjoy the local landscape. An interesting feature of the camp is the presence of a "watch tower," which could offer unique perspectives of the surrounding area and add an element of interest to the overall experience.
In terms of facilities, one reviewer noted "excellent facilities" overall, which is a significant positive aspect for any campground. However, there were specific comments regarding the latrine, where the sinks were reported as not working. On the other hand, the main lodge was mentioned as having an actual bathroom. It's also noted that the bathrooms in the cabins did not have stalls. For those considering cabin stays, it's important to be aware of this detail regarding the bathroom setup within the cabins.
The lodging options at Camp Decorah include cabins, which are described as "better than tents." However, it's important to note that the cabins do not come equipped with mattresses. The camp did provide "old army sleeping bags" for sleeping, which might be sufficient for some but suggests that bringing your own sleeping pad or more comfortable bedding might be advisable, as also recommended by a reviewer who suggested to "bring a sleeping mat." This would likely enhance the comfort of your stay in the cabins.
Despite some of the noted facility quirks, the staff at Camp Decorah received high praise, being described as "really nice." Positive interactions with staff can significantly contribute to a pleasant camping experience, making guests feel welcome and supported during their stay.
For practical considerations, one reviewer advised to "make sure to stay warm and bring a sleeping mat and hand sanitizer." This suggests that while the cabins offer shelter, campers should still come prepared for varying temperatures, especially during cooler times of the year. The recommendation to bring hand sanitizer highlights the importance of personal hygiene, especially when using shared facilities.
A useful amenity mentioned is the availability of "charging plugs in the main lodge." This can be particularly convenient for campers who need to charge electronic devices but are staying in cabins without direct access to power. Having a designated area for charging can be a significant benefit for staying connected or keeping essential devices powered.
While the reviews provide insights into the environment, facilities, and staff, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. Camp Decorah - Gateway Area Council, Scouting America Reviews
The sinks don't work at the latrine. But they did have an actual bathroom in the main lodge. But our bathrooms didn't have stalls. The cabin windows didn't tie open. But the staff were really nice and the cabin houses were better than tents but they don't have mattresses but they gave us old army sleeping bags to sleep. And they had nice views, a watch tower, and many areas ti hike at. It was a good camp but make sure to stay warm and bring a sleeping mat and hand sanitizer. And they have charging plugs in the main lodge
