For local users in the West Salem, Wisconsin area searching for "camping near me," Veterans Memorial Campground, located at N4668 County Rd VP, West Salem, WI 54669, presents itself as an option. To help you make an informed decision, we've compiled an objective introduction based on the limited recent customer reviews available online. This overview will touch upon the environment, services, and features as experienced by other campers.
When exploring the "camping near me" category, it's crucial to consider various factors to ensure a pleasant experience. The following information aims to provide a balanced perspective on what you might expect at Veterans Memorial Campground, based solely on the provided user feedback.
Environment: Potential for Noise and Ground Conditions
One reviewer explicitly stated a preference for another local campground, Goose Island, mentioning the ability to hear a race on Saturday night. This suggests that Veterans Memorial Campground might not offer the same auditory experience, which could be a positive or negative depending on your preferences. However, the same reviewer also implied that Saturday nights at Veterans Memorial Campground might not be ideal for a peaceful stay.
Another review raised concerns about the ground conditions, stating that "if it is rainy out, you may sink bigger rigs into the mud." This is a significant consideration for RV owners, especially those with larger vehicles. Additionally, this review noted that the "sites not level," which can impact the comfort and functionality of your camping setup, particularly for RVs requiring level positioning for appliances and stability.
The same review also mentioned "tons of speed bumps getting to the campground." While speed bumps are intended to ensure safety, a large number of them could make the journey to and from the campground less convenient, especially for vehicles towing campers or trailers.
Services and Amenities: Issues with Essential Utilities
One of the most critical pieces of feedback concerns the essential services at the campground. A reviewer reported that the "water is very rusty," which could affect water quality for drinking, washing, and other uses. This is a significant factor to consider for any camping trip.
Furthermore, the same reviewer detailed an unresolved issue with the 50-amp electrical plug at their site. Despite requesting help and having someone look at it, the problem was never fixed. As a result, they had to rely on a 30-amp connection, significantly limiting their ability to use their air conditioning, especially during potentially hot weather. This lack of essential service resolution is a serious concern for campers requiring 50-amp power.
The review also briefly mentioned "small sites," which could impact the amount of space available for setting up your camp and enjoying outdoor activities at your individual location.
Features: Limited Positives in Recent Feedback
Based solely on the provided reviews, there are no explicitly positive features highlighted by recent customers. The feedback primarily focuses on negative aspects related to noise, ground conditions, and essential services.
It's important to note that the absence of positive comments in these specific reviews does not necessarily mean the campground lacks any positive attributes. Veterans Memorial Campground Reviews
I like Goose Island alot better. You can hear the race on Saturday night. Not a nice place stay on Saturday nights.
Nov 23, 2024 · David TronikIf it is rainy out, you may sink bigger rigs into the mud. Sites not level, water is very rusty, small sites. Tons of speed bumps getting to the campground. We needed help with the 50amp plug & never got it. Had someone look at it, but never fixed it. Had to run on 30amp & limit use of air conditioner, could only run 1.
Jun 03, 2024 · Michelle SmithGreat location near LaCrosse. Nice large sites. Mix of weekend and seasonal sites. Majority of seasonal campers living there for the month/summer. Nice bathroom and laundry facilities.
Aug 05, 2024 · D (XGen)Great staff. Clean bathrooms. Cannot speak about showers and how much because I did not partake. It's quiet and peaceful.
Jul 25, 2024 · Paula GenardoWhile traveling west we stopped here. No reservations, just 1st come 1st serve. They have over 300 sites though best we can tell. All of which are well spaced out quite nicely. Not an expensive place to stay but you could not tell by driving through. It is well taken care of and the restrooms and showers are fantastic. Wheel chair accessible with shower chairs in them. Very quiet and kid friendly park. Lots of playgrounds for the kids. The guy in the office was extremely polite and helpful. Even took some time just to tell us about the area when we asked about bears. Which there isn't here in the park.
