Papoose Pond Family Campground & Cabins Introduce
Looking for an exceptional "camping near me" experience in the beautiful state of Maine? Papoose Pond Family Campground & Cabins, located at 700 Norway Rd, Waterford, ME 04088, consistently ranks as a favorite among visitors, particularly families. This campground offers a wide array of lodging options, abundant amenities, and a lively schedule of activities, all set in a picturesque environment.
One enthusiastic reviewer proclaims that "Papoose Pond will always be one of our favorites campgrounds in Maine!" This sentiment speaks volumes about the quality and appeal of this location. The campground boasts a diverse range of accommodation choices to suit various preferences and budgets. These include "really nice lakeside cabins" for those seeking comfort and stunning views, "more rustic little lodges" for a charming and authentic feel, and "plenty of campsites" ranging from those with full amenities to more basic, "barebones" options for traditional camping enthusiasts. This variety ensures that whether you're looking for a luxurious cabin stay or a simple tent pitch, Papoose Pond likely has an option to meet your needs.
A significant draw for families is the extensive program of "daily activities for kids in the summer." This suggests that Papoose Pond is a highly family-oriented campground, providing ample opportunities for children to stay entertained and engaged throughout their stay. Beyond the organized activities, the campground itself offers "tons of things to do," implying a wealth of recreational facilities and natural attractions within the property. While the specifics of these activities and facilities aren't detailed in this review, the emphasis on having "tons of things to do" suggests a vibrant and engaging environment for all ages.
Adding to the convenience and enjoyment of the stay is the campground's "cafe," which offers "a lot of good food options as well as ice cream!" Having an on-site cafe eliminates the need to travel for meals or treats, providing a convenient and potentially delicious option for campers. The inclusion of ice cream is a particularly appealing feature for families and those looking for a sweet indulgence during their outdoor adventure.
Despite its seemingly secluded natural setting, Papoose Pond also benefits from its proximity to the town of Norway, with "downtown Norway less than 20 minutes away." This allows campers to easily access any additional supplies, services, or local attractions they might need or wish to explore. The reviewer notes that you can "get whatever else you need pretty easily" in Norway, combining the tranquility of a campground with the convenience of nearby urban amenities.
For some families, Papoose Pond has become more than just a vacation destination; it's described as being "like a second home." This deep sense of connection and belonging speaks to the welcoming atmosphere and the positive experiences consistently offered at the campground. The reviewer concludes by enthusiastically recommending Papoose Pond to everyone, further highlighting its widespread appeal.
Another recent visitor echoed the positive sentiments, initially expressing skepticism about the pricing but ultimately understanding the value upon arrival. The "view from our campsite of the pond was amazing" underscores the scenic beauty of the location and the potential for premium waterfront sites. This suggests that the environment around Papoose Pond is a key feature, offering picturesque views and a tranquil lakeside setting.
The presence of "a full store with all the essentials" adds another layer of convenience for campers, ensuring that forgotten items or necessary supplies are readily available without needing to make a trip into town. This is a valuable amenity, especially for those who prefer to stay within the campground during their vacation.
The second reviewer also confirms the presence of a "full cafe with ice cream also," reinforcing the information from the first review and highlighting its importance as an on-site amenity. They also corroborate the family-friendly nature of the campground, noting that it's "mostly family's and they have events for kids all day long." This further emphasizes Papoose Pond as an ideal destination for families with children, offering a safe and engaging environment with plenty of activities to keep the young ones entertained.
While the overall experience is highly positive, one reviewer does mention that "the sites, like other reviews say, are a little close." This is a potential drawback for those who prioritize a high degree of privacy while camping. However, this is somewhat mitigated by the fact that "everyone that camps there is super friendly and respects the quiet time," suggesting a considerate and community-oriented atmosphere among the campers.
The same reviewer also points out that "the bathrooms def need a makeover," indicating that while the overall experience is excellent, some facilities might be due for renovation. However, they also state, "but I won’t hold it against them!" suggesting that this is a minor issue that doesn't significantly detract from the overall positive experience of the campground.
Based on these reviews, Papoose Pond Family Campground & Cabins offers a compelling "camping near me" option in Waterford, Maine, particularly for families and those seeking a well-rounded camping experience with a variety of lodging choices and numerous on-site amenities. The environment is clearly a major draw, with a beautiful pond providing scenic views and opportunities for lakeside enjoyment. The extensive activities for children, the convenience of a full store and cafe, and the friendly atmosphere contribute to its popularity. While the campsites might be somewhat close together and the bathrooms could use updating, these appear to be minor drawbacks in the context of the overall positive experience and the exceptional value offered.
For local users considering a camping trip, Papoose Pond offers a range of promotional benefits through its offerings: diverse accommodation options (lakeside cabins, rustic lodges, various campsites), extensive family-friendly amenities (daily kids' activities, on-site cafe with food and ice cream, full store), a beautiful natural environment centered around Papoose Pond, and a convenient location near the town of Norway. Feb 12, 2025 · Ryan TimberlakeWe were a little skeptical on why the prices were so high but we completely understood once we arrived. The view from our campsite of the pond was amazing. They have a full store with all the essentials. Full cafe with ice cream also. Great place to take kids as it’s mostly family’s and they have events for kids all day long. The sites, like other reviews say, are a little close but everyone that camps there is super friendly and respects the quiet time. The bathrooms def need a makeover but I won’t hold it against them!
Jul 21, 2024 · Christian ManginiCampground has many things to do for all ages. The staff were all responsive. There were some very disrespectful teens making alot of noise and using loud obscenities 2 out of the 10 nights. While security did respond immediately they were unable to do much. I would recommend, but just be cautious if you are looking for 100% quiet "family time."
Aug 20, 2024 · Gina DetorioMy family and I had a great time! We had a waterfront site, which was beautiful. The kids loved all of the activities available to them. Our family will definitely plan another trip there again.
Jun 21, 2024 · Renee KelleyGreat camp ground but they don’t post rates they change I guess? We paid 80$ a night for a site with electric and water the bathrooms/showers were old and outdated for the price we paid. Lots of activities for the kids (some at an extra fee) but overall great. Would be 5 stars easy if the bathrooms weren’t ancient and gross and small. Rec hall was super awesome site we had was giant wooded private HB 19. Will come again
