Deer Trail Resort and Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" or lakeside getaways in the Longville, Minnesota area, Deer Trail Resort and Campground, located at 1608 Deer Run Dr NE, Longville, MN 56655, USA, presents a unique case. Customer reviews paint a picture of a long-established, family-run resort with a loyal following, cherished for its natural beauty and personal touch, but also acknowledged for its aging facilities and need for updates. It's a destination that seems to offer a nostalgic and familiar experience for returning guests, centered around a pristine lake environment.
One long-time visitor expresses a deep affection for Deer Trail Resort, admitting, "I love Deer Trail Resort! It's not for the faint of heart. There's nothing fancy or luxurious about it. In fact, it's in serious need of modernizing." This candid assessment sets a clear expectation for potential first-time visitors. The reviewer highlights the rustic nature of the resort, specifically mentioning that "The beds could be more comfortable and the cabins are definitely rustic." This suggests that accommodations are basic and may not appeal to those seeking modern amenities or luxurious comfort. The condition of the "docks are in disrepair and the advertised boats are lacking" further indicates that some of the recreational facilities may not be up to par.
Despite these shortcomings in terms of modern luxury, the reviewer's enduring love for the resort stems from its more intrinsic qualities. They describe it as being "like my second home. Or maybe, even closer to my home." This strong personal connection speaks volumes about the atmosphere and the relationships fostered at Deer Trail Resort. The "clean and clear and so refreshing" lake is a significant draw, with the reviewer having "enjoyed the beautiful lake since I can remember." This emphasizes the pristine natural environment as a key feature of the resort experience. The mention of Alice, the owner, who "has always seemed like family," highlights the warm, personal touch often found at long-standing family-run establishments.
The review also acknowledges the transition in management, noting that "Rebecca, her caretaker and now resort manager, has done a decent job taking over duties and managing a declining resort." This suggests that the resort may be facing challenges related to its age and the need for reinvestment. The reviewer's sentiment, "To be honest, I would be sad if it changed to much. Although, I would love a more comfy bed to sleep on. Hint, hint," encapsulates the complex feelings of loyal guests who appreciate the resort's character but also recognize the need for some improvements.
Tragically, a subsequent review shares somber news: "Been staying here for many years! Sadly this trip, we were given the news of Alice and her care giver, a fire took their life, about two weeks ago. Sorry for her family's loss, and all who knew her. She was an amazing lady The stories she told of how her husband and her built Deer Trail Resort. ❤ feeling sad." This poignant message conveys a deep sense of loss and highlights the significant role Alice played in the resort's history and the personal connections she forged with guests. This information, while not directly related to the resort's amenities, speaks to its long-standing presence in the community and the impact of its ownership on the guest experience.
Considering local users searching for "camping near me," Deer Trail Resort and Campground offers a lakeside setting in the Longville area. The "clean and clear" lake is a major environmental asset, likely providing opportunities for swimming, fishing, and other water-based activities. The presence of cabins suggests accommodation options beyond traditional tent camping, although these are described as "rustic." The surrounding environment is likely typical of northern Minnesota, with forests and natural landscapes contributing to a sense of peaceful retreat.
In terms of services, the reviews provide limited specific details. The mention of "docks" and "boats" indicates that water access and boating were intended to be features, though currently "lacking" or "in disrepair." As a "resort and campground," it likely offers campsites for tents and RVs in addition to the cabins. Basic amenities such as restrooms and potentially showers would be expected, though their condition is not detailed. The family-run nature suggests a more personal level of service, although the capacity for extensive services given the resort's age and reported decline is uncertain. Local users should contact the provided phone numbers, (218) 363-2536 or +1 218-363-2536, to inquire about the specific services currently available, including the status of the docks and boats, the types of campsites offered, and the condition of other facilities.
The features of Deer Trail Resort and Campground, as gleaned from the reviews, are somewhat contrasting. The primary positive feature appears to be the beautiful and clean lake, which has been enjoyed by guests for many years. The family-run atmosphere and the personal connection with the owner, Alice (and potentially now Rebecca), are also significant features that foster loyalty among returning visitors. The rustic nature and the sense of it being a "second home" for some suggest a relaxed and unpretentious environment. However, the need for modernization, the condition of the beds, cabins, and docks, and the lack of advertised boats are negative features that potential new guests should be aware of.
There is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. Local users interested in any special rates, seasonal offers, or packages at Deer Trail Resort and Campground would need to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers. Given the news of the owner's passing and the resort being described as "declining," it is unclear what the immediate future holds in terms of operations and potential promotions. However, for those seeking a long-standing, family-run resort on a beautiful lake and who are not overly concerned with modern luxuries, Deer Trail Resort might still hold appeal, particularly for those who value a more rustic and personal experience.
In conclusion, Deer Trail Resort and Campground near Longville, MN, offers a lakeside retreat with a history of strong personal connections and a beautiful natural environment. However, it is also acknowledged to be in need of modernization, with rustic cabins and some facilities in disrepair. The recent tragic news of the owner's passing adds another layer to the resort's current situation. For local users searching for "camping near me" or a cabin stay, Deer Trail Resort presents a unique option that prioritizes the natural beauty of the lake and a family-oriented atmosphere over modern amenities. Potential visitors should be prepared for a more rustic experience and are advised to contact the resort directly to inquire about the current status of facilities and services before making a booking.

I have to admit, I love Deer Trail Resort! It's not for the faint of heart. There's nothing fancy or luxurious about it. In fact, it's in serious need of modernizing. The beds could be more comfortable and the cabins are definitely rustic. The docks are in disrepair and the advertised boats are lacking. It is a family run resort where the family has aged and dispersed. But, I love it because it is like my second home. Or maybe, even closer to my home. The lake is clean and clear and so refreshing. Aug 06, 2017 · Becky LuciusWe've had our trailer there for years, even up graded our trailer after many funtastic years here. Reasonable, and great fishing, designing and entertainment. Hardest art is the the road construction and time it takes to get out of the cities, to get there!! More fun with kids, but we find things to do,and places to go.
