Longville Campground Introduce
Longville Campground, situated at 1367 Co Rd 5 in Longville, Minnesota, is a lakeside property with a history deeply intertwined with the local community. Located on the shores of Austin Swamp, this campground has seemingly evolved over time, as reflected in the experiences shared by individuals familiar with the area. For those searching for "camping near me" in the Longville region, understanding the current status and historical context of Longville Campground is essential.
Historically, as one local resident recounts, Longville Campground was considered a "wonderful place." Growing up in Longville, this individual and their friends enjoyed access to the campground for fishing and visiting friends who had trailers there. This nostalgic account paints a picture of a welcoming environment where even children without accommodations were treated with kindness, receiving old fishing gear and snacks or drinks. This suggests that in the past, Longville Campground fostered a sense of community and was a local hub for recreation and social interaction.
However, recent feedback indicates a significant shift in the operational focus of Longville Campground. According to the same reviewer, the current owner reportedly prioritizes individuals with trailers, allegedly turning away others seeking access for activities like fishing or visiting friends within the campground. This change in policy has led to disappointment among some local residents who have fond memories of the campground being more inclusive. The reviewer's statement that the owner "runs you off and Says it is for people that have trailers only" suggests a potentially restrictive approach to who can access and utilize the campground's facilities.
Despite these reported changes in management and access policies, the inherent natural beauty of the location on Austin Swamp remains. The reviewer's personal anecdote about catching their very first fish with their father in these waters underscores the sentimental value and natural appeal of the lake. This suggests that the physical environment of Longville Campground, with its lakeside setting, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of the local community, even if access has become more limited for some.
The mention of seasonal trailers at a nearby location, Austin Swamp, with positive feedback about the owner and manager there, adds a layer of complexity. It is unclear if this refers to the same property as Longville Campground or a separate but nearby entity also located on Austin Swamp. If it is the same location, it suggests a potential discrepancy in experiences, with seasonal trailer residents reporting positive interactions with the management, while others seeking more temporary access have faced restrictions.
The strong emotional connection of the local community to Austin Swamp is further emphasized by the reviewer's father, who, owning multiple businesses in Longville, has reportedly considered purchasing the campground. His motivation is rooted in a desire to give back to the community by potentially tearing down the existing structures and creating a new city park. This highlights the perceived loss of a community asset and the aspiration to restore public access to this valuable lakeside location. While this remains a possibility rather than a certainty, it underscores the local sentiment regarding the current state of Longville Campground.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Longville Campground presents a somewhat complex picture based on the available information. While the location on Austin Swamp is undoubtedly appealing due to its lakeside setting and historical significance, potential visitors should be aware of the reported current policy that prioritizes trailer owners. This might mean that traditional tent camping or day visits for activities like fishing or visiting friends could be restricted. It is crucial for anyone considering a visit to Longville Campground to contact the provided phone number, (218) 363-2610 or +1 218-363-2610, to inquire about the current access policies, availability for different types of camping, and any associated fees or regulations.
Given the information available, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the services and features currently offered at Longville Campground. The historical account suggests a more open and welcoming environment in the past, but the recent review indicates a potential shift in focus. It is unknown whether amenities such as restrooms, water access, or specific campsite facilities are readily available for those without trailers. Local users should specifically inquire about these aspects when contacting the campground.
Similarly, no explicit promotional information is provided in the reviews. The historical goodwill associated with the campground might have served as a form of promotion in the past, but the recent negative feedback regarding access suggests a potential need for the current management to address these concerns and potentially communicate their policies more clearly to the local community. Any future promotional efforts might need to consider the historical context and the local sentiment surrounding the campground's accessibility.
In summary, for local users considering "camping near me," Longville Campground offers a lakeside location on Austin Swamp with a history of being a welcoming community spot. However, recent reports suggest a current focus on accommodating trailer owners, potentially restricting access for others. The natural beauty of the lake remains a significant draw, and the possibility of future redevelopment into a public park reflects the local community's strong connection to the area. Potential visitors are strongly advised to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers to obtain accurate and up-to-date information regarding access policies, available services, and any specific regulations before planning a visit.

Longville Campground Reviews
Used to be a wonderful place years ago - growing up in Longville you could go there to fish & visit friends in the trailers. As a kid they would give you old fishing gear and bring you a snack or drink. Now the prick owner, runs you off and Says it is for people that have trailers only. So I just go back home and get my boat and pull up in it because he doesn't own the lake. That way I can say hi to my life long friends too.To prove this is not just a person making a bad comment - I've added two pictures of my brother and I as children, catching our very very first fish ever with our father in Austin Swamp. The waters there will always be special to us - my father might just buy they park and allow other people to visit and not be a prick like the rude, selfish, inconsiderate owner now... My dad owns many businesses in Longville and talks often about buying it and tearing it down to make a new city park to give back to the community. I hope he does and gets rid of the godless, selfish man there now that is rude to other people all because he owns the property and doesn't care if you are friends with people in the trailer park.Check out and like our two pictures catching our first fish ever and children there... It must have had a nice cool owner then, because we were welcome and made life long friends in many of the trailers. Some of them even have their friends come stay with us when they are in town.
