Seymour Johnson AFB Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Goldsboro, North Carolina area, particularly those with ties to the military or seeking an affordable "camping near me" option, the Seymour Johnson AFB Campground, located at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Education Center and Library, Goldsboro, NC 27531, USA, offers a no-frills camping experience. While it operates within a military installation, it appears to be accessible to a wider range of campers. Based on available reviews, this introduction will provide an objective overview of the environment, services, and features of the campground to help local users determine if it meets their needs.
Environment within Seymour Johnson AFB: The campground is situated within the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. This unique setting offers a secure and potentially quiet environment, removed from typical commercial camping areas. One review mentions "nice paved bike trails throughout the base," suggesting that campers might have access to these recreational facilities within the base. However, another review notes that upon arrival before noon, "the grass and weeds were over 2 feet tall," indicating that ground maintenance might be inconsistent or vary by site. The presence of "well shaded" sites is also highlighted, which can be a significant benefit during the warmer months in North Carolina, providing relief from the sun. However, this shade might also limit the effectiveness of solar panels for RV users or interfere with satellite reception. The overall environment is likely functional and secure, but perhaps not as manicured as privately owned campgrounds.

- RV Sites with Hookups: One reviewer specifically mentioned staying on site 14 with a 30’ travel trailer and noted that "all the hookups worked as advertised and without issue." This suggests the presence of sites equipped with essential hookups such as water, electricity, and possibly sewer. The availability and type of hookups may vary between sites.
- Self Check-In System: The campground utilizes a "self check-in system using a map with our site number," indicating a potentially streamlined arrival process, especially for after-hours check-ins.
- Paved Bike Trails Access: The availability of "nice paved bike trails throughout the base" is a notable amenity, offering opportunities for recreation and exercise within the secure confines of the base.
- Shaded Campsites: The "well shaded" nature of the sites is a service that provides comfort, particularly during hot weather.
- Low Cost: One reviewer mentioned, "For the low cost, it was sufficient," highlighting the affordability of this camping option, which can be a significant draw for budget-conscious travelers and locals.
- No Campfires Allowed: It is explicitly stated that "No campfires allowed," which is an important piece of information for campers who enjoy this aspect of the camping experience.
Additional services commonly found at campgrounds, such as restroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, or Wi-Fi, are not mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users might need to contact the campground directly to inquire about the availability of these and other potential amenities.
Features of Seymour Johnson AFB Campground: The unique features of this campground are primarily tied to its location within a military installation and its affordability:

Apr 27, 2025 · Dee MaierMy wife and I stayed at the Seymour Johnson AFB Famcamp during the 4th of July weekend. We found the camp to be well maintained. We stayed on site 14 which had enough room for our 30’ travel trailer and our Ram 1500 tow vehicle. All the hookups worked as advertised and without issue. The sites are well shaded which we enjoyed but if you have to rely on solar or satellite, this camp may not work for you. Overall, our experience was a positive one and we are likely to visit again as we have family in the area.

Mar 22, 2025 · Kenny NolanWanted to stay at this Fam Camp to visit my son before continuing south. We were very concerned about the stay process because they did not take reservations. Well they do now!!!!! Four days before leaving Pennsylvania to head south, I looked on their website and found a reservation request form. I completed the form and the next business day, the Rec Center called me to confirm my stay. We are staying in site 20 with our fifth wheel and the site is a long concrete pad with full hookups. The site is woodsy. The morning Reveille makes me proud to be an American. This is a great service that AFB's provide!!!!
Apr 19, 2023 · Phillip BeckThe campground is ok for the price. Almost all the long term sites are filled, but they are expanding (creating 8 or so new sites). It's nice having a laundry room onsite and there are 2 bathrooms in the same building. I gave a 3 because most of the long term sites are not level and when you stay here, you are basically on your own. They cut the grass about once per month, so bring your own mower, etc. The other campers are very friendly and there are lots of dog owners. I do like that the sites are full hookup and we have a dumpster and dog waste bins. So you don't have to haul waste. There is also a dump station here too. The base offers alot to do for kids in the summer.
