This hidden gem is amazing. We took a chance to get a spot, as it’s first come first serve and it’s beautiful. $10 with 20amp electric. Our RV is 34ft and we fit with no problem on two different sites. Well worth taking the chance for a spot. No dump or water, but the Petro travel center in Albert Lea, MN, about 16min away, offers free dump and potable water. Can’t beat this!! - Sam

Silver Lake County Park Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in northern Iowa? Consider Silver Lake County Park, situated at 500th St, Northwood, IA 50459, USA. You can reach them by phone at (641) 324-1524 or their mobile number, +1 641-324-1524. Based on the experiences of fellow campers, Silver Lake County Park offers a budget-friendly option with a potentially beautiful setting, though it's important for local users to be aware of its limited amenities.

One reviewer described Silver Lake County Park as a "hidden gem" and "amazing," noting its beauty. This suggests that the environment is a significant draw, likely featuring the namesake Silver Lake and possibly scenic surroundings. The presence of a lake often implies opportunities for water-related activities, although the reviews don't explicitly mention these. For those searching for "camping near me" who appreciate natural beauty and a potentially tranquil lakeside setting, Silver Lake County Park warrants consideration.

In terms of services, the reviews provide a clear picture of what is available. The cost is notably low at "$10 with 20amp electric." This affordability, coupled with the availability of electric hookups, makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers looking for "camping near me." One reviewer, with a 34ft RV, mentioned fitting comfortably on two different sites, indicating that the campground can accommodate larger vehicles, although another cautioned against bringing RVs over 30ft.

However, it's crucial for potential visitors to note the limited amenities. Both reviewers pointed out the absence of a dump station and water hookups at the campground itself. One helpful camper mentioned that the Petro travel center in Albert Lea, MN, about 16 minutes away, offers free dump and potable water, which is a valuable piece of information for those planning to stay at Silver Lake County Park. The second reviewer also explicitly stated "no water or sewer hookups nor a dump station," reinforcing this point for those seeking "camping near me" with full hookups.

Regarding the campsites themselves, one review mentioned that there appear to be around 8 sites. Three of these have gravel surfaces, while the rest are on grass. Notably, two of the gravel sites face Silver Lake and are described as being the closest to level, while the grass sites are "well off level." This information is important for RV owners or tent campers who prioritize a level site. For local users with RVs or those sensitive to uneven ground, the gravel, lake-facing sites might be the most desirable, although they are limited in number and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

One reviewer noted the presence of "an outhouse," though they didn't use it. This suggests that basic restroom facilities are available, albeit not flush toilets or a full bathhouse. For those accustomed to more rustic camping or those primarily concerned with having a toilet facility, this might suffice. However, those seeking more comprehensive restroom amenities might find this lacking in their search for "camping near me."

A significant drawback mentioned by one reviewer is the potential noise from the "RV park/farm next door." This could impact the peacefulness of the camping experience. Local users who prioritize a quiet and secluded atmosphere for their "camping near me" might want to consider this potential noise factor.

In summary, Silver Lake County Park offers a budget-friendly camping option with the benefit of 20amp electric hookups and a potentially beautiful lakeside environment. Its first-come, first-served policy means that securing a spot, especially one of the desirable lake-facing gravel sites, might require some luck. Campers should be prepared for limited amenities, specifically the lack of water and sewer hookups and a dump station on-site, though a nearby travel center offers these services. The campground appears to be able to accommodate RVs up to a certain size, with some level sites available. Basic restroom facilities in the form of an outhouse are present. Potential noise from a neighboring property is something to be aware of.

For local users looking for an affordable "camping near me" option with electric hookups and a scenic lake, Silver Lake County Park could be a great choice, provided they are comfortable with the limited on-site amenities and the first-come, first-served system. The low cost of $10 per night makes it a very attractive option for those camping on a budget. The fact that a 34ft RV could be accommodated suggests reasonable site sizes, though the warning against RVs over 30ft from another reviewer indicates some variability.

As there is no explicit promotional information in the reviews, the primary draw appears to be the combination of affordability, the potentially beautiful environment of Silver Lake, and the availability of electric hookups. Local campers who value these aspects and are prepared for the limited services might find Silver Lake County Park to be an "amazing hidden gem" for their "camping near me" needs.

For those in the Northwood, IA, or surrounding areas searching for an inexpensive and potentially scenic "camping near me" experience, Silver Lake County Park is worth considering. Just be sure to plan for water and waste disposal needs off-site and be aware of the first-come, first-served nature of the sites and the possibility of noise from adjacent properties. The positive remarks about its beauty and the value for money suggest a worthwhile experience for the right kind of camper.
