Mature trees often contribute to a more secluded and aesthetically pleasing camping experience. Another camper echoed this, noting the "nice big trees," reinforcing the image of a well-wooded area. For those in search of "camping near me" who appreciate natural beauty and a tranquil atmosphere, the presence of large trees can be a significant draw.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide some valuable insights. One camper specifically mentioned "electric hook up," indicating that at least some campsites at Big Island Campground are equipped with this amenity. Electric hookups are a significant convenience for many campers, allowing them to power lights, appliances, and charge electronic devices, enhancing the comfort of their stay. This feature makes Big Island Campground a potential option for those "camping near me" who prefer some level of electrical access at their site.
The same reviewer also highlighted the presence of "great walking / cross country skiing trails." This is a notable feature, suggesting that Big Island Campground caters to outdoor enthusiasts beyond just traditional camping. Even during the winter months, Big Island Campground seems to offer a viable camping option. The review mentioning a "great one night winter camp out" indicates that the campground is accessible and enjoyable even outside the typical camping season. While the late January bathrooms were closed, "pit toilets" were available and noted as "clean." This suggests that the campground provides basic facilities year-round, which could be appealing to more adventurous local campers seeking a winter "camping near me" experience.
Further enhancing the camping experience are the provisions of "spaced out camp spots," "picnic tables," and a "fire ring" at each site. Spacious campsites offer more privacy and room to set up, which is often a desirable attribute for campers. Picnic tables provide a convenient space for meals and other activities, while fire rings allow for campfires, a quintessential part of the camping experience for many. The combination of these basic yet essential amenities contributes to a comfortable and enjoyable stay for those choosing Big Island Campground for their "camping near me" getaway.
Another positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the cleanliness of the vault toilets, with one reviewer humorously noting that they "smell like coconut." While the primary function of a toilet is hygiene, a pleasant scent can certainly add to a more positive overall experience, especially in outdoor settings. This detail suggests that the management pays attention to the upkeep of even the more basic facilities.

Big Island Campground Reviews
A great one night winter camp out!! Great walking /cross country skiing trails. Electric hook up. Late January bathrooms closed but pit toilets clean . Great big trees! Spaced out camp spots. Picnic tables, fire ring
Jan 28, 2024 · David KlossCampground has nice big trees, and the sites are well spaced out. The vault toilets are clean and smell like coconut.
Apr 08, 2023 · Russell MillesI hesitate to give any stats. I'll give it one because it's quiet. Worst. Campground. Ever. $51 for electric only back in gravel pad. Not very level. At reservation I was told there were water spigots to fill fresh water tanks near the site but they are just open pipes. You cannot fill from them because you can't connect a hose to them. I've been all over the US and literally NEVER seen so many mesquitoes and spiders. Wood is higher here than I've ever paid anywhere, not that i could have enjoyed being out side anyway. The one good thing.. check out isn't till 4pm... but who would want to be here?
May 31, 2024 · Becky HoughtonBeautiful campground in a beautiful park. Good nightly rates and very kind camp host!We made the reservation over the phone and it was easy and convenient. The site we stayed in overnight in a tent was spacious and level, with a soft mulch spot we set up on. There was a fire ring and picnic table available at our site.We were right next to the bathhouse that had many big, clean shower rooms and nice clean bathrooms. Everyone was quiet and respectful, and we had a lovely night camping!
