Pammel Park Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Forest City, Iowa, searching for "camping near me," Pammel Park Campground, located in Forest City, IA 50436, USA (phone: (641) 585-4860 or +1 641-585-4860), offers a budget-friendly camping option situated near local conveniences and the Winnebago River. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground provides basic amenities and a convenient location, but potential users should be aware of certain limitations. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of Pammel Park Campground, considering its environment, services, and features as described by those who have stayed there, to assist local users in their "camping near me" decision.
Riverside Environment with Urban Proximity
Pammel Park Campground is located right in Forest City and is adjacent to the Winnebago River, offering a potentially pleasant natural element for those searching for "camping near me." The proximity to the river is noted as a positive aspect in one review. Campers can likely enjoy the sights and sounds of the river, and it might offer opportunities for activities such as fishing or simply relaxing by the water. The campground's location within town also provides the convenience of being just a couple of blocks from a grocery store and gas station, which can be advantageous for stocking up on supplies. However, the reviews do not extensively describe the overall natural beauty or recreational opportunities directly associated with the park or the river area beyond its presence.
Services and Amenities: Basic and Budget-Oriented
Based on customer feedback, Pammel Park Campground offers a somewhat basic set of services and amenities, which aligns with its budget-friendly pricing. For local users seeking "camping near me" with essential hookups, the campground provides:
- Level Sites with Power Only: One review explicitly mentions level sites with only electrical hookups available. This is an important consideration for RV campers who rely on other utilities.
- Potable Water and Free Dump Station: The availability of potable water and a free dump station on-site is a significant convenience for RV users.
- Shower House: A shower house is available, although one reviewer noted it was "OK" but potentially not cleaned regularly enough, mentioning the presence of spider webs. This suggests that while the facility exists, its upkeep might be a point of concern for some users.
However, the reviews also highlight some notable limitations in terms of amenities:
- No Fire Rings: A significant drawback mentioned by one reviewer is the absence of fire rings, which are typically considered essential for safe campfires at campgrounds.
- Limited Picnic Tables: There are reportedly not enough picnic tables for each campsite to have its own, which could be inconvenient for campers wanting to eat outdoors at their site.
Local users should weigh these service provisions and limitations based on their individual camping needs and preferences when considering Pammel Park Campground as a "camping near me" option.
Features: Convenience and River Proximity
The primary features of Pammel Park Campground appear to be its convenient location within Forest City and its proximity to the Winnebago River. For those searching for "camping near me" who value accessibility to local amenities like grocery stores and gas stations, Pammel Park's location is a definite plus. Additionally, the presence of the Winnebago River offers a natural element that can enhance the camping experience. The campground is also mentioned as being near the Winnebago factory tour, which could be an attraction for some visitors to the area.
Another feature noted is the self-serve sign-in process, with payment of $15 or $20 per night (prices mentioned in different reviews, suggesting potential variation or different site types). This self-service model might offer flexibility for late arrivals but could also mean limited interaction with campground staff.
One reviewer mentioned that the grass was mowed nicely, indicating some level of grounds maintenance. However, the narrow and tight nature of the campsites, as well as unclear numbering, could be a drawback for maneuvering and setting up, especially for larger RVs, as noted in one review mentioning tight back-in sites for big rigs.
The issue of the potable water having high iron content, resulting in a sulfur smell, is another important feature to consider. While deemed okay for toilet use and dishes, one reviewer recommended purchasing water for drinking or coffee, which could add to the overall cost of camping.
No Specific Promotional Information Available
The provided reviews do not mention any specific promotional offers or discounts for Pammel Park Campground. For local users searching for "camping near me" and looking for potential deals, it would be advisable to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about any seasonal rates, weekly discounts, or other special offers that might be available.
Considerations for Local Users: Budget-Friendly with Caveats
For local residents of Forest City and the surrounding areas seeking an affordable "camping near me" option, Pammel Park Campground offers a budget-friendly choice with prices around $15-$20 per night. Its location within town provides convenient access to amenities, and its proximity to the Winnebago River offers a natural setting. However, potential campers should be aware of the limitations highlighted in the reviews, including the lack of fire rings, potentially insufficient picnic tables, the condition of the shower house, and the quality of the potable water. The tight campsites might also be a concern for larger RVs.
Local users who prioritize basic amenities and a convenient location at a lower cost might find Pammel Park Campground suitable for their needs. However, those seeking more comprehensive amenities and a more traditional campground setup with fire rings and more spacious sites might need to explore other options in the region.

Pammel Park Campground Reviews
Sites are narrow/tight and not clearly numbered. NO fire rings. Can't say I recall a campground not having a safe place for a fire!!? Not enough picnic tables for each site to have their own. Shower house is OK,. probably not cleaned regularly enough to keep spider webs under control. The Winnebago River is nice. Not many bugs bothered us. Electricity seemed clean according to our WatchDog. At $20 per night,.it's OK. But I think the city could do more. Grass is mowed nicely. Couple blocks from grocery and gas. Dump station and fresh water but the water is high in iron, giving it a sulfur smell. Ok for toilet and dishes, but I'd recommend buying water for drinking or coffee.
Aug 05, 2024 · Parker KelleyRight in town and close to the Winnebago factory tour. Level sites with power only. Back in sites would probably be tight for big rigs. The toilet/shower house needs help. Right next to a small river. Potable water and free dump stations on site. Self serve sign in at $15/night.
Oct 15, 2022 · Pat CarverSmall city campground with electric- 1 box for 4 sites as best I can tell. $15/night. Large dump station at campground entrance. Across the small river is a golf course.
Jul 23, 2019 · JSWAE RoqGreat park right off a main road with plenty of shade for picnics. Picnic tables are available around the park. Also has a washroom.
Jun 10, 2024 · Teresa TrumanSmall sized rustic city campground inside Forest City. Good for overnight stays, fee and registration box check in. Dump station availability. Campground is subject to occasional floods by the Winnebago River. Country Club - golf course with bridge accesd is on the opposite side of the river. Bike trail goes through campground.
