Silver Lake Stockton Camp Introduce
Silver Lake Stockton Camp, located at 29981 Plasess Road, Pioneer, CA 95666, USA, is not just a campground; it is described by its loyal visitors as a "magical place" and a treasured High Sierra escape. Operating as the Silver Lake Campers Association Stockton Family Camp, this historic establishment has been providing an affordable and immersive outdoor experience for families and groups since 1921. Nestled behind Plasse's Resort, just a few miles above Bear River Reservoir and below Kirkwood Resort at Carson Pass in Amador County, it stands as a unique offering within the "Camping Near Me" category.
Environment: The environment of Silver Lake Stockton Camp is truly one of its most captivating features. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the camp offers "exquisite cascading granite boulder formations with tumbling and then pooling alpine water," as one reviewer eloquently describes. The camp is situated at Silver Lake on Highway 88, providing stunning lakeside views and easy access to the pristine alpine waters. The surrounding area is characterized by a mix of forested landscapes and open, wildflower-filled meadows, offering diverse natural beauty. Being in the High Sierra, visitors can expect crisp mountain air, clear night skies perfect for stargazing, and an abundance of wildlife. One particularly memorable experience recounted by a visitor involved watching a bald eagle, a testament to the rich biodiversity of the area. The proximity to Kirkwood ski resort, just 10 miles away, indicates its location in a high-altitude, four-season recreational zone. The camp is located on land leased by the City of Stockton from the United States Forest Service (U.S.F.S.), El Dorado National Forest, ensuring a preserved natural setting for campers.
Services: Silver Lake Stockton Camp operates as a comprehensive family camp, offering a unique set of services that distinguish it from a typical campground. The camp is open seasonally, generally from late spring to late summer. A significant highlight of the Silver Lake Stockton Camp experience is that almost all activities are included in the prices, along with three meals a day and lodging. This all-inclusive model simplifies the camping experience for families, allowing them to focus on recreation and relaxation. Lodging is provided in 50 rustic, all-wood cabins, each furnished with a double bed, two sets of bunk beds, dressers, and chairs. For convenience, cabins are equipped with electric lights and outlets, powered by a generator. A modern, centrally located bathhouse provides hot showers and laundry facilities, a significant amenity in a rustic setting. While individual campsites with fire rings and picnic tables are characteristic of traditional camping, Silver Lake Stockton Camp leans towards a cabin-based, family-oriented approach with shared facilities. The camp offers a direct phone line for inquiries and reservations at (209) 227-0082 or +1 209-227-0082, and an email address for more information: info@stocktonfamilycamp.org. This structured, yet relaxed, environment aims to provide a hassle-free vacation for families escaping the city heat.
Features: The features of Silver Lake Stockton Camp are designed to create a memorable and engaging experience for all ages. The core of its appeal lies in its wide array of included activities. These include:
- Hiking: Both long and short hikes are offered, catering to various fitness levels. As one customer noted, "The trail was empty when my friend and I hiked the 1 mile flat trail," suggesting accessible and serene pathways. More strenuous, all-day adventures like hikes to Thunder Mountain or Needle's Eye (8+ miles) are also recommended for avid trekkers.
- Water Activities: Swimming in Silver Lake is a popular pastime, and campers can also enjoy fishing (guests bring their own tackle and license if applicable) and kayaking. The presence of a sandy beach offers a comfortable spot for relaxation by the water.
- Arts & Crafts: The camp provides activities for both children and adults, fostering creativity and community.
- Group Socials: Group campfires and singalongs are a beloved tradition, along with group games like basketball, tetherball, volleyball, and horseshoes.

Silver Lake Stockton Camp Reviews
Silver lake is the most magical place I have ever camped. I first visited with a friends church group around 1996. It was such a significant moment in my life that I have recommended it every chance I have had. On one trip my son and I watched as a bald eagle back then on the endangered species list flew over us preparing I imagine to grab the fish we were fighting as he made several approaches in a slight diving trajectory but never locking in and commiting. My son a future entomologist was in awe of how huge the bird was. Absolutely a magical place 10 miles from Kirkwood ski resort.

Jul 07, 2019 · Stephanie MontalvoAlthough the drive is far, there is no place like it: the cabins that they are redoing are really nice, it is a great place for kids, they make all of the food for you, the prices are pretty cheap, it is a great place for kids, and all of the trails, the lake and the nature are amazing. The weather is always perfect and the air is so nice. Friendly staff too
Nov 02, 2019 · Cameron HuffCasual, almost camping but with individual cabins and all food provided for you. This is perhaps our 20th time staying at the Stockton Silver Lake camp starting when our children were small and now our grand children are with us. We've already signed up for next year!
