Sturgeon River Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience in Wolverine, Michigan, Sturgeon River Campground, located at 5564 Cedar St, Wolverine, MI 49799, USA, presents a riverside camping option. You can contact them at (231) 525-6656 or their mobile number +1 231-525-6656 for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer feedback, Sturgeon River Campground offers both appealing aspects and potential drawbacks that local users should consider.
One positive aspect highlighted in a review is the description of Sturgeon River Campground as a "hidden gem." This suggests that the location may offer a unique and potentially secluded camping experience away from more crowded areas. The reviewer also notes that the campground is clean and well-maintained, indicating attention to the upkeep of the grounds, which is a significant factor for many campers seeking a comfortable stay.
Another positive point mentioned is the newly remodeled bathrooms. Clean and updated restroom facilities are often a high priority for campers, and this recent upgrade suggests that Sturgeon River Campground is investing in the comfort and satisfaction of its guests. This can contribute significantly to a more pleasant overall camping experience.
The allure of camping along the river is also emphasized in the positive review. Riverfront campsites often provide scenic views, opportunities for fishing, and the soothing sounds of flowing water, enhancing the connection with nature and offering a unique camping ambiance. The reviewer's repeated visits within a short timeframe further underscore the positive aspects they experienced during their stays.
However, a more critical review raises significant safety concerns regarding tubing on the Sturgeon River. The reviewer explicitly states that the river is "not safe for tubing" due to the presence of many downed trees. This is a serious warning, especially for families with children, as submerged or partially submerged trees can create hazardous conditions for water activities. The reviewer also mentions calling ahead and receiving assurances that the river was safe for kids, which unfortunately did not align with their experience. This discrepancy is important for potential campers who may be planning to engage in tubing or other water activities on the river.
The same critical review also provides insights into the campground facilities. While they did not camp at the facility, the reviewer noted that the women’s bathroom was out of toilet paper, which indicates a potential lapse in basic amenity maintenance. Additionally, they described the shower setup as "awkward," with just a transparent shower curtain in the middle of the bathroom, potentially raising privacy concerns for some users.
Another significant drawback mentioned in the negative review is the lack of shade at the campsites. Campsites with no shade can become very hot and uncomfortable, especially during the summer months, making it difficult to relax outdoors during the day. This is an important consideration for campers who prefer shaded areas for comfort and protection from the sun.
Based on these contrasting reviews, Sturgeon River Campground offers the appeal of a clean, well-maintained campground with newly remodeled bathrooms and the unique experience of camping along the Sturgeon River. However, potential local users must be aware of the serious safety concerns raised regarding tubing on the river due to downed trees. It would be prudent for anyone considering water activities to independently verify the current river conditions and safety before planning to tube or allow children in the water.
Furthermore, the lack of shade at the campsites is a factor that may deter some campers, particularly those camping during warmer periods. The reported issue with the women’s bathroom lacking toilet paper and the awkward shower setup also suggest potential inconsistencies in facility maintenance and design that may impact the overall comfort of the stay.
Given the mixed feedback, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Sturgeon River Campground should weigh the positive aspects of cleanliness, updated facilities, and the riverside location against the significant concerns regarding river safety for tubing and the lack of shade at campsites. It may be beneficial to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current condition of the river, the availability of shaded campsites, and the status of the shower facilities. Asking for recent updates on these specific issues can help potential campers make a more informed decision.
In conclusion, Sturgeon River Campground offers a riverside camping experience in Wolverine, MI, with clean grounds and recently upgraded bathrooms. However, the serious safety warnings regarding tubing on the river and the lack of shade at campsites are crucial factors that local users must consider. It is recommended to seek current information directly from the campground regarding these concerns before making a reservation, especially if planning water activities or camping during hot weather. While the allure of a "hidden gem" along the river is strong, ensuring safety and comfort should be a top priority for any "camping near me" decision.

Sturgeon River Campground Reviews
Love this hidden gem. Campground is clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are newly remodeled. The only down side is the showers are off because of Covid. Pictures are from 2 separate trips only 3 weeks apart because I loved it so much. You can’t beat camping along the river.
Aug 18, 2020 · Danielle EtzelNot safe for tubing! There are many downed trees. We called ahead and they said the river was safe for kids. Thank goodness we had a 2 person inflatable boat along with our tubes. We lost two tubes and had to cut our adventure short because the river was just too dangerous. We did not camp at this facility however the women’s bathroom was out of toilet paper. The shower looked awkward, just a transparent shower curtain in the middle of the bathroom. The campsites had no shade. I wouldn’t recommend this site for families.
Jun 20, 2024 · Renee PowellAlthough it's just outside of town, it's right on the river and such a beautiful river! The caretakers are a welcoming, wonderfully kind couple.Bring a kayak or canoe and enjoy your visit!
Aug 23, 2021 · Lois BrewerOn the river for a good river tubing experience. Also on an ORV trail. Clean bathrooms. The shower wasn't turned on. Sites were in an open field. No shady woodsy feel. $20, 25 with electricity.
