My family stayed here a few years in a row and had no problems until this past summer. There was a wedding with an open bar at the rec building near the lake with the wedding party camping amongst the general population during our stay. As expected a couple ppl from the wedding had too much to drink and decided to beat up on each other in front of a bunch of families, including mine with toddlers. There was apparently a love triangle between a few ppl and the guy involved decided to beat up on his ex girlfriend loudly in the middle of the campground. Then the ex girlfriend decided to beat up on the new girlfriend loudly in the middle of the campground. All the while there was zero security or management present. It took about 30 mins or so of this before the cops arrived and they ended up leaving the guy at the campground. So after all of that the guy who was beating his ex got to stay and camp next to us. I spoke to management the next day and asked why would you have no security or management present with a wedding on the premises that has an open bar, just seems like a problem waiting to happen. The manager basically played it off like nothing happened and it was our fault for not calling management sooner. This place is poorly managed with zero clue how to manage a campground. - M.B.

Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga Introduce

Are you searching for the ideal camping getaway in Northern Michigan? Look no further than Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga, a well-situated campground in Alanson, MI, offering a delightful lakeside experience. Conveniently listed under the "camping near me" category, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga provides a range of amenities and natural beauty, making it a strong contender for your next outdoor adventure. Located at 11000 Camp Petosega Rd, it’s easily accessible and promises a memorable stay for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. You can reach them at (231) 347-6536 or their mobile number +1 231-347-6536 for inquiries and reservations.

Nestled directly on the shores of Pickerel Lake, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga boasts a tranquil environment that many past visitors have cherished. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of the lake and enjoying picturesque views right from your campsite. The campground offers good-sized lots, providing ample space for various camping setups, whether you prefer tent camping under the starry Michigan sky or the convenience of an RV. The proximity to the lake is a significant draw, offering opportunities for swimming and fishing just steps from your campsite. One particularly charming resident, a friendly snapping turtle named Rudolph who frequents the fishing dock, has even become a unique point of interest for visitors.

In terms of services, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga strives to provide a comfortable and convenient camping experience. The restrooms are reported to be well-kept, a crucial aspect for any camper. The presence of trash cans and water fountains throughout the campground, with regular emptying by the camp staff, contributes to a clean and pleasant environment. For those with recreational vehicles, a dump station is available on-site, adding to the campground's appeal for RV enthusiasts. Additionally, the office sells ice, a small but significant convenience, especially during warmer months.

A significant positive aspect highlighted by a reviewer is the considerate nature of fellow campers. The observation that parents attentively supervised their children, leading to a safe and peaceful atmosphere without random wanderings through campsites, speaks volumes about the community feel of the campground. Furthermore, the reviewer noted a sense of security and honesty among campers, where leaving gear unattended did not result in theft. This contributes significantly to a relaxed and trustworthy camping environment, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings without unnecessary worries.

However, it's important to present a balanced perspective, and some past experiences indicate areas where Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga could improve. One concerning review detailed a disruptive incident involving a wedding reception held at the recreation building near the lake. The presence of an open bar and subsequent lack of security or management oversight allegedly led to disturbances among some wedding guests, including physical altercations in front of families. The reviewer expressed dissatisfaction with the management's response to the incident, highlighting a potential need for better event management and security protocols, especially when events with alcohol are held on the premises alongside general camping.

Another point of feedback concerns the restroom facilities. Unlike some state parks that offer vault toilets throughout, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga's restroom locations may require some campers to drive, particularly if a closer facility is closed for cleaning due to the one-way road system within the campground. This could be an inconvenience for those with campsites located further away from the available restrooms.

Furthermore, one reviewer noted a significant presence of cockroaches, particularly wood cockroaches attracted to the abundance of trees and firewood. While these types of cockroaches are less likely to infest homes, their presence in and around camping gear is something to be aware of. The reviewer also mentioned the occasional sighting of American cockroaches. They recommended taking precautions such as hosing down and sun-drying gear before storing it to prevent any unwanted hitchhikers. It was also mentioned that the wood roach population tends to decrease later in the season.

Lastly, potential visitors should be aware of reports of swimmer's itch in Pickerel Lake. It is advisable to check with the campground office for any recent updates or advisories regarding water conditions during your intended stay. Taking necessary precautions, if advised, can help ensure a comfortable and enjoyable swimming experience.

Despite these points of consideration, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Northern Michigan with direct access to Pickerel Lake. The generally positive feedback regarding the environment, lake access, and the considerate community of campers suggests that it remains a desirable destination for many. The good-sized lots, well-maintained restrooms, and convenient amenities like the dump station and ice sales add to its appeal for both tent and RV campers. The presence of friendly wildlife, like Rudolph the snapping turtle, can also add a memorable touch to your camping trip.

For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga presents a compelling option for a lakeside retreat. While it's prudent to be aware of past incidents and potential environmental factors like insects and water conditions, the campground's core offerings of a beautiful location, essential services, and a generally positive camping community make it worth considering. We recommend contacting Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga directly at (231) 347-6536 or +1 231-347-6536 to inquire about current conditions, availability, and any specific concerns you may have. This will allow you to make an informed decision and potentially secure a wonderful camping experience on the shores of Pickerel Lake.

To make the most of your stay at Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga, consider bringing insect repellent, especially during the warmer months. If you plan on swimming, inquire about the current status of swimmer's itch and take any recommended precautions. For those in RVs, the on-site dump station provides added convenience. Tent campers will appreciate the spacious lots and the proximity to the lake. Remember to check your gear for any wood cockroaches before packing up to head home. By being prepared and informed, you can fully enjoy the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere that Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga has to offer.

In conclusion, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga, listed under "camping near me," offers a lakeside camping experience in Alanson, Michigan, with its own set of advantages and considerations. The beautiful location on Pickerel Lake, spacious campsites, and generally positive community atmosphere are significant draws.
